As close to royalty as we Americans can get, the Kennedys have fascinated the population over many years, especially those known as Camelot. This book chronicles those Camelot years as seen through the eyes of the Kennedy wives, Jackie, Ethel, and Joan. The author interweaves the lives of those women effortlessly while telling the story of their triumphs, heartaches, and ultimately the great tragedies that ended Camelot.

I found this book intriguing and well written. This is a chronicle of the three Kennedy wives and how they related to each other and to the Kennedy family they married into. They were (are) astonishing women in their own rite who endured great heartache and pain. Having been a young girl during the "Camelot" years I found the book fit pieces together where there were gaps in my memory and understanding. I was quite impressed with the author's documentation at the end of the book le...more
In-depth portraits of Joan, Ethel and Jackie Kennedy, yet a surprisingly swift read. Extremely insightful and interesting.
Of course, prior to reading this book, I knew some details and stories of Jacqueline Kennedy's life. All I knew of Ethel was that she was the one with the many kids. As for Joan, I don't think I have ever even aknowledged her existence, since regional politics (that Ted Kennedy is in) have never really gotten that much attention outside the US.

This book read a bit like a gossip column...not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but when I finished, I didn't feel I'd really read a history book. It was fascinating, however, to read some of the intimate, lurid details of the family history, and to learn of the relationship among the sisters-in-law.
Four-stars seems a bit too much for this book, but I did really enjoy it. It was a relatively light, entertaining read about the Kennedy women.

Camelot: where the women are whiny witches and the men are slimy cads.
I feel like I needed to take a shower after I listened to this book. Not much more than a gossip rag, it was peppered with too many "perhaps'" and "maybes" and "probablys" to take it seriously. I need to read some other stuff about the Kennedys because this was far from scholarly and unbiased. It also assumed that you know all about the Kennedy history...like the Chappaquitic accide...more

Well not as in depth as other books about the
Kennedy woman, it was great to learn more about Ethel & Joan. I felt so sorry for poor Joan Kennedy about the way Ted treated her. I'm very curious to read the late Ted Kennedy's autobiography and see what he has to say for himself about those years.

This was pretty good considering I have already read quite a bit about these woman. This was a different perspective, however, and I found it interesting how the almost forgotten days of pre womens' lib affected the attitudes and decisions of these three famous women as well as Rose Kennedy and their Kennedy sisters in law.
This book, since reading for the first time in my politics-drunk stupor in sixth grade, is still one of my favorites. J. Randy Taraborelli really captures the lives of these tough, sweet, loving, loved, confused, mysterious, beautiful women in what must be a difficult, very bizarre existence. LOVE IT.
This was one of the first books I've read about the Kennedys although they are still talked about today. It was interesting to learn all that these women had to endure in their position of power and how much they had to suffer as a result of the power the family held
So juicy! I've always been intrigued by the Kennedy family, but this book focuses on the wives! I never thought it would be SO GOOD! It's better than any soap opera! If you love reading about women and you love a good juicy story, read this true tale!!
It took a lot of willpower for me to finish this one. Obviously, the subjects were interesting, but 624 pages was flatly self indulgent. It would have been a better book if it were 200 pages lighter.
Even though I'm a fan of all things historical, biographical, and specifically Kennedy, this was a little hard to get through due to it's size. Really interesting though, a TON of information and details that I'm sure the general public doesn't know (and maybe wouldn't be interested in?) but that I found really interesting. The author did a great job putting it all together though...I can't even imagine the time and research that goes into a project like this!
Just how much of this book was actual truth, one can't be certain, but there are over 50 pages of acknowledgements and sources, so I would have to say it's pretty close.
Well-written and gives an insiders view of three women who were prominent in my "growing up" years.
Learned lots of tidbits about each of the women and it reinforced what I believed about the Kennedy men. They were liars and cheats and the women were just supposed to sit back and accept it. Some were able...more

A glimpse into the lives of three very different women, who all married into one of America's most powerful families.
Book club read and many are loving this timely story of the Kennedy wives. Should have some interesting things inside!
Lots of license was taken in writing this book, but it's so intriguing. You won't be able to put it down.
Interesting to read and see how the Kennedy dynamic worked for these women.
Very good book. I really enjoyed it. Ethel is something else-surprised me.

Recommends it for:

This is play by play account of the Kennedy administration along an up-close account of the life and times of the wives of Camelot.
I was not necessarily a big Jackie-O fan when I started this read, but I must say, I was completely pulled in by this book.
I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in American History/Politics and to just as many who are have no interest in it at all.

I love anything to to with the Kennedy Fam so loved it!!
I really enjoyed this and kept it in my permanent library.
What amazing women with amazing stories!
VERY INSIGHTFUL
Excellent!
For me, Jackie Kennedy ranks as another fascinating icon (right under Marilyn). This biography is great because it tells you all you need to know about Jackie but also works in a lot of interesting facts about her 2 sisters-in-law (Ethel and Joan) and of course their husbands. And apart from the drama of their personal lives, this book also explores some pretty interesting political themes.
And BONUS: there's a little about Marilyn in there as well.

Jackie was the icy one, Ethel was the boisterous one, and Joan was the alcoholic. A book about women who married rich and powerful pigs and how they suffered silently (as they were expected to) as the husbands were rewarded for their piggy behavior. The more piggy, the better. Oink. Did you know that Aristotle Onassis had a creepy shrine to Jackie that he kept, even after marrying her? I learned that from this book.
This book tells the stories of Jackie, Ethel, and Joan, the three women who married into the Kennedy family and how they dealt with their husbands careers, infedelities, scandals, and much more. I first read this book in high school before I really knew anything about the Kennedys and I loved it! Even now that I know more about them I love to go back and read it again every now and then.
I have started this book and I am really enjoying it. I had seen the mini-series on tv that was based on this book. I love the story of these three Kennedy wives and how they were there for each other through the toughest of times. JFK is one of my favorite presidents, which is what drew me to buy this book. I will write a final review when I have completed it. So far, a winner. :)
Long, but if you can get through it, it's an interesting family history about a very famous American family. Our closest thing to royalty, in some ways.
I really enjoyed this book about the Kennedy wives. It chronicles their relationships to each other and how they handled all the difficult situations in their lives. I was especially interested in Joan Kennedy, whom I didn't know much about, and I found her story particularly tragic.
