Gerald's concentration is broken by a variety of noisy interruptions as he tries to write a poem for school. Finally, early one morning, it's quiet, and, describing the morning, the poem comes to him. Written by the author of Counting Jennie ( C. 1994), this sensitive portrayal offers an insightful look at the creative process.

The boy in the story writes a poem based on the noises he hears around him everyday. This is something new writers could think about when they are deciding what to write. I do not know that I would have this book in my classroom.

Interesting and unique pictures; lacks a really good plot, characters are a little unbelievable since poem seems out of the reach of the age of the child.
