Policewoman Sukey Reynolds goes to hear a noted romance author speak. The talk is interrupted by an obviously distraught woman, who accuses the author of murder. When the author is found dead, the woman, now missing, becomes the chief suspect. Sukey listens to her superiors, but she's not sure that the case is as simple as they think it is. Part of a series.
