Not so long ago, we heard about Peter Parnell’s controversial children’s book And Tango Makes Three, a true story about a pair of male Penguins in Central Park Zoo raising a chick. Mommy and Mama enjoy a day with their darling, bouncing baby. Each mother does their own special things with baby during the day from flying up in the air to cooking in the kitchen. At the end of the day baby is tucked into bed and kissed good-night by both Mommy and Mama. Showing that love truly does make a family.

This book gives us a look at a young child who happens to have lesbian parents. The book goes on show us the different activities that the child does with each parent. The ending is cute because the parents tuck the child in and kiss him good night. The book is a card board book and is very short but it is perfect for children who are preschool age.

This book is about two moms interacting with their child. I like this book because it has a clear sense that the child has to moms. There are no stereotypes presented in the book. I can use this book as a teachable moment to explain to my students that a family does not always have to include a mommy and a daddy or a mama and a papa. The child’s needs can be met with any type of parent.
Mommy, Mama and Me, written by Leslea Newman and published in 2009 is very simple picture book that is about a baby and her two mothers. The author shows the baby as she interacts with both moms doing different activities of the day. It is a book that validates the different kind of families that exist today. It would be a good book to discuss these kinds of families with young children.
This is another important book to have on your bookshelf. Children must see their life and their struggles. These topics must be discussed, a great way to do this is in a book. CHildren are struggling wih these things and they must see that it is okay.
This is the story of a baby girl who is being raised by two female parents. She affectionately refers to one as mommy and the other as mama. Throughout the story the baby is seen partaking in various fun activities with both of her mothers.
