Richard Cohen has lived with multiple sclerosis for over 30 years. He chose not to be defined by it and to live each day as it comes. I think he managed to do just that until a second bout with colon cancer almost did him in physically as well as mentally. An interesting read, especially for someone with a chronic illness. Although the author's illness is dissimilar in many ways to my own, the resulting situation is still much the same. Feelings of being less than whole, and the difficulty in coping with such a situation day in and day out. I found the book to be inspiring, especially as I seem to be starting out in my journey, and the author has been on this road for some 30 years and is raising children. An incredible story. Not only of living and dealing with a disease, but a story of perseverence through life. It's not a book of pollyanna stories and quotes, he never once tries to make this all about him and his disease. He is honest about himself, his family, the ups and downs of family life and his career, etc. This is a book that I was sad to finish, I wanted to read more. It's easy to see why he was such a great journalist, the man can really write.

A self-portrait of determination and resilience. The author has lived his entire adult life struggling to define himself rather than being defined by multiple sclerosis while working in the competitive and challenging broadcast news industry. Messy, real life with all of its sorrows and joys.

Bittersweet account of Meredith Viera's husband's 30-year struggle with multiple sclerosis. I learned a great deal about the disease and what it's like to cope with a chronic and at times debilitating illness.

Very interesting book. Married to Meredith Viera, author has had MS for over 20 years, and survived two bouts of cancer. Quite a fighting spirit.
