I like this one, because <spoiler>Light dies. He gets shot like, eight times, which is incredibly awesome in itself, but then Ryuk finishes him off, which is just fucking epic.</spoiler>
This manga was hard for me. I loved it, kept on loving it, became a rabid fan, then analyzed it. I kind of took it in the wrong order. I hate to say it, but now when I look back on it, I see so many things that are wrong about it. So many things that go against everything I believe in. Wom More...

This was a pretty satisfying end to the series. However, the last half of the series was not so good. I had a hard time getting through the last five or six volumes. All of the elements that made Death Note great in the beginning of ther series just got annoying (Near & Mello's idiosyncracies, all of Light's inner monologues, etc.). For a series with so many twists and turns I kind of expected more from the ending - something more exiciting than what actually happened.

People keep saying that Light is a sociopath, a pyscopath, an egotistic maniac, he had a god complex, he is depressed, and so forth. No matter were I go, I find people hating on Light, because 'he's such a freaking assholelunaticevilnarcissisticmurderer', yada yada yada. But here's the thing; I like Light. I think that at the deepest part of his soul, Light is neither crazy nor evil, and here's why.

I went through the pages really quickly but was stuck at the long speeches. By the end of both of them, or was it three or four?, I wanted them both to die! The part that upset me the most was how Matt got shot so simply and then, Mello had to be an idiot and kidnap her which resulted in his own death. I loved Mello and thought that his death was unjust. I was talking with my friend about re-writing the twelfth book where Light dies a decent death, Near too, Mello lives and Matt doesn't get shot

Should criminals be punished? Totally eradicated from the society? Is it even possible...?
Who should punish those "bad guys"? One of the good guys?
What if this one good guy has an unlimited power to kill any bad guys he wants with the most righteous motive? When does he stop being a good guy and start being the bad guy himself, the worst of all?

The last volume in this overly long manga series. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet, but in general, stuff gets real. Long, effing LONG explanations are at hand, Mikami is even more crazy, and then:
OMG.
Well, kind of disappointment. For me at least. The ending, anyway. Though it was supremely epic.

For the finish of the series, I really think they put in things that were morally satisfying. I had been considering this series for my graphic literature course (if I ever get to teach it again), because I think it brings in some moral questions worth pondering. After the death of the original L, I started disliking the series, especially the character of Light. As the protagonist, he wasn't likable anymore. L's replacements, Near and Mello, never truly gained my sympathies either. I also

THIS SERIES.
why why why why.
Genius stuff there, but... wow. Wow.
<spoiler> Seeing Misa at the end was absolutely just... heart-breaking. And I don't even like her.
Light's death? I can hardly explain how much I hate Light. I mean hate him. He is the biggest bastard I've ever come across in a series, but I still found myself crying at his death just because I forgot how innocent he used to be. It was almost as if Kira took over him. But it obviously was him.

I've been putting off writing a review of this book since I feel the need to sum up the entire series, which I would say is 4 stars overall...with a whole lot of things that drove me INSANE, namely the overall representation or lack thereof women in what I consider to be one of the smartest graphic novel series ever. But this volume is too good to taint it's review with an overall complaint. This particular book though was five stars through and through. A stunning ending to a thought-provoking

This book was the ending of the series and was the best book is the series ive ever read becuase important things happened. One was that LIGHT YAGAMI FINALLY GOT CAUGHT (KIRA), and his servant kira got put in jail. Another thing was that a police that was Light yagamis best freind stood up to him and almost killed him which was pretty intense. One bad thing was that Light yagami's wife misa misa(the second kira) never showed up in this last book which was really sad. I think that main chara

The end of this fantastic graphic novels series ended with a bang as the series main protagonist/anti-hero Light Yagami faces of against the biggest threat to his plan of becoming "God" 19-year old genius Near.Lights zealous follower Teru Mikami holds the Death Note in his hand and is able to see Nears and his associate's names. But Near isn't the one who gonna die...
Over all the end of the book unforgettable, though I would rather wish L was More...

I'll confess that it took me a long time to finish this series. There were parts towards the beginning that were a little too deep for me. (It was obviously a far more brilliant mind than mine that came up with this series.) However, that being said, the last part of this series made every single "boring" explanation worth slugging through. The final volume is by far the best of the series, in my opinion, as it gives complete and total satisfaction to the reader. This book alone made t

Can't really remember what happened specifically in this volume now as I read it on holiday along with the remaining volumes. So, an overall review of the series - all in all a brilliant piece of work, very imaginative and clever with brilliant twists and turns (although did start to get repetitive towards the end). I wasn't at all taken with Near and Mello - much preferred the original "L" character. Good ending, although didn't expect Light to produce the reaction that he did (he was

What would you do if you found a book that would kill who evers name was written in it? Yagami Light decides to create a new world, killing criminals who corrupt and poison the world. This starts the epic battle between the two geniuses, Light, and the world's best detective 'L'. Careful not to reveal his name to 'Kira', the name given to the murderer killing criminals, the battle wages between L and the Kira.
While this manga is action packed, the battles are more psychological mind More...

Going into this, i knew Light was going to die at the end of the series, but I really wish this weren't the case. I don't know about you, but I'm kind of tired of seeing good triumph over evil. And really, aren't good and evil just matters of perspective anyway? Who is to say that L & Near's perception of morality is truly good simply because it is social acceptable, while Light (who clearly the people of his new world supported - even if out of fear) is viewed as a murderer.

Oh Death Note - so you do have an ending! Well, sort of. Because, as we all know, there must be spin-offs. I'm not sure that I'll be flocking to those right away. This was such an intriguing story, but I feel bogged down by it after finishing. Normally, when I really enjoy a book or a series, once I finish with it, I have to do crazy amounts of research on it, find tie-ins, watch and/or read them, and obsess. Not so with Death Note. At least, not right now.

A review of the series as a whole.
*read both fan translations and the official translation.
I preferred the fan translation due to it being less censored in language and that the translation I read had great editor notes that explained cultural significances.
The series as a whole is excellent. Once you get past at how ridiculous the whole thing is about a murdering book and the metaphysical stuff.
Really the introduction just lulls you into the whole " More...

Overall Rating: A++
Synopsis: A psychological/supernatural thriller created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student, Light Yagami, who discovers the notebook of a shinigami that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name while picturing his or her face. Light's goal is to create and lead a world cleansed of evil using the book, but where is the line between an honorable goal, and mass murder?

What a gorgeous series. The art is top notch~ more reastic for such a REAL atmosphere. The story is very original, thuroughly well-though out and the amount of strategizing is astounding. Just the right amount of comic relief, all the more appreciated because of how dreary the rest is. I love seeing the story played out through the eyes of the villain. This is in my top three favorite series.

Best manga, best storyline, best characters EVER. Started watching the anime first and it is amazing. I'm just going to rate this vol. for the whole series.
Light. L. Near. Melo...Good and Evil. A New World. Shinnigami's.
Melo and Near are cool, but the most fascinating strand in the story's web is the relationship and battle between L and Light. Ohba...pure genius of suspense.

A great finish to a very good series containing the final showdown and the consequences thereof. At every point Tsugumi Ohba has thought through his characters thoughts and actions to provide a cohesive story of two masterminds facing off. A disturbing, challenging, and undoubtedly good read.
