Artist Ida Pearle gives readers a way to play for every letter in the alphabet. A is for act--curtains up! B is for blow--pinwheel ready! And C is for catch--butterflies beware! Ida's cut-paper collages are the perfect mix of vintage and modern, comfort and inspiration. Her images of children--on tiptoe, on a zebra, dancing, and jumping--are full of grace and flow. And her...more

Opening with a very appropriate poem from Robert Louis Stevenson "To Any Reader," this picture book pairs the alphabet effortlessly with children's play. It has only one word on each page, but each word works well. It won't be ideal for reading aloud, because children will love to chat about the pictures and words that are part of their own lives.

Pearle has create a picture book that celebrates our diversity and our similarities at the same time on each and every page. The children portrayed com...more

A Child's Day: An Alphabet of Play is a simple book to help children learn their letters. The fun, cut-paper collage illustrations of children use bright colors and varying patterns. Each letter of the alphabet features a corresponding action word, which is also represented through the art. Children are depicted doing anything from dancing, to quacking or whistling.

Parents and children will enjoy spending time together with this book. Children will learn to recognize simple verbs more quickly t...more

This one is self-explanatory isn't it? An alphabet book featuring children at play. (A is for Act, Z is for Zoom.) What would make a book like this unique--worth your time--are the illustrations. This was another alphabet book. I really loved the illustrations in this book because they portrayed children of different races and backgrounds-boys and girls alike. The words in the alphabet were all action words that I think would really encourage children to be active as well.

I actually liked it more than I rated it as far as the colors and the simplicity of the design being rather elegant, only because the children have no features which, as a child, freaked me out to no end.

What a lovely book. Paper cut images illustrate a diverse group of children engaged in a a wide range of play activities. Lovely alphabet book.

I really loved the art, but my 19 month old daughter wasn't into it. One of the problems may be the children have no eyes or personality.

This is the best alphabet book I've seen in awhile. The text and the gourgous cut-paper collage illustrations have a beautiful simplicity.
