This book, as it turns out, is part of the giant mass of Dragonlance gaming franchise, though It’s a new series, written at a juvenile level (labeled ages 10 and up). I didn’t realize this going in, and so a lot of my moments of confusion may well be due to not knowing the greater world. My ex-husband and I have both read the original Weis & Hickman Dragonlance books, and so were curious about this new "young adult" series. We borrowed a copy of this first book to read, and were both pleasantly surprised! We definately enjoyed it, and consider it worth adding to the Dragonlance collection.
this book was disappointing. i realize that it was supposed to be a children's version of the Dragonlance books, so therefore the plot would be simplified and less violence would be present. however, these two things do not give permission for bad writing. the book was simply badly written. the dialogue was flat, the characters had no depth aside from their Dungeons and Dragons character classifications (as in, no motivation for the thief to be stealing things). backstory was only given on two o...more

I liked this book. I heard about it after reading a practical guide to dragons, a picture book about the 10 types of dragons, which I had owned for years, but never bothered to look into. I thought that it was funny and interesting. My favorite characters wee Sindri, Catriona, and Elidor. I alos liked Maddoc. I though that it was odd that Nearra lost her memories, and did not know what to think about Maddoc. I thought that Slean was cool, and that it was neat that all of these characters were me...more
