My, my, Sweetwater Gap was a heartwarming romance that went well beyond my initial expectations. Denise Hunter writes great romance novels--and I expected that--but this was her best yet. Few authors do allegories well, and if you look at Sweetwater Gap and Surrender Bay from a purely allegorical point of view, it's impossible to not be impressed with the amazing job the author did with both of them.

I have never read a story with a more emotionally effective and believeable plot that exemplifie...more

Josie Mitchell left Sweetwater Gap with no intention of ever returning to her childhood home. Running from ghosts of shame and self-recrimination, she flees a horrible secret that's destroying her, body and soul. She makes a life for herself in the big city, well and truly away from her hometown, her family, and the apple orchards she once loved. Not even the death of her beloved father brings Josie back to Sweetwater Gap.

But when her sister Laurel needs help through a difficult pregnancy, the...more

This was an excellent, well-written book by Denise Hunter. It followed a girl in her mid-20's, named Josie, as she traveled back to her hometown after a long absence.

Growing up, she lost her mother at a young age and never felt good enough for her father. Her sister, who was a few years older, tried to fulfill the "mother role" but Josie just felt threatened by it more than anything. On one birthday, she learned that the reason her father was so distant to her was because she was a twin and her...more

I expected this book to be good. I've read some of Denise Hunter's book and have really enjoyed her style and story lines. I was amazed at how much I really loved this book. Simple enough premise - two sisters grow up, one leaves home never to return because of past memories and the other stays to live her life there. Through a series of events the prodigal needs to return and help out. She does so reluctantly and then has to face her past as well as her future and see how God is going to work e...more

josie mitchelle has to go home to SC to run the family orchard. She wished she could have a do over.
Grady thinks she's trouble and others think she's there for other reasons. She has many conversations with the others in the family about what to do with the orchard that is failing, year after year now she learns.
Love hearing how the apples are picked, the technique they follow.
Josie does learn the truth why her father is sad on her birthday...there are also secret...more

The back of the book says...A story of Love and Second Chances...She wished she could go back and change things...but life doesn't give do-overs.

Do you remember do-overs? When I was in grade school, everyone always wanted to do "do-overs"....your chance to do it again, the first one didn't count. Unfortunately, life isn't that way. We only get the first time. Josie goes back home to help her sister with the apple harvest, since she's pregnant with twins and needs to take it easy. But that means...more

This story was an interesting fast read. The characters were interesting and the plot kept me reading until I found out what the main characters issue was. This is a spoiler so if you haven't read it don't read on. I had a hard time buying into how the main character purposely chose to kill herself as a just punishment for what happened when she was 17 and then no one in her family pushing the subject of her illness enough to get her to the hospital. By the end of the book with the amount of mea...more

I usually love all Denise Hunter's books, but this one threw me just a little. In the beginning, Josie Mitchell is called home to help her older sister take care of their apple orchard (after the death of their father). Then someway, somehow, Josie comes down with Addison's Disease. This would have made much more sense if Ms. Hunter had written about this at the very beginning of the book. The fact that Josie knew about the disease before the story even started is what threw me. Otherwise, it wa...more

I really enjoyed this story by Denise Hunter. I think it's one of her best. I found it to be a real page turner. I loved the hero and the attention he paid to the heroine. He was strong in his faith and very supportive. I could really feel the guilt and pain the heroine went through.

Halfway through the story my hubby and I went to an apple orchard in our area and it really made me look at the orchard in a whole new light.

I've read a few stories by Denise Hunter and have enjoyed them all. I look...more

When I first pick this book up, I didn't realize it was Christian fiction. It wasn't until later, seeing the Women of Faith emblem that I realized what it was. As far as books go, I really thought this was a great book.

In the beginning, I thought it was just another chicklit book with a slightly religious undertone. However, the message the author was getting at, which became apparent at the end, was really interesting. I like Denise Hunter's style - it is a quick and easy read.

I just started this book, but it is good so far. Josie left sweet Water Gap a long time ago. She did not say why yet, but it's got to be good. And when she comes back to take the place of her sister because she cant work on the farm because she is pregnant with twins. No one expected her to come even for this because she wouldnt come when her father was suffering from a stoke or even for her dads funeral. So when she got there Grady (the helper and owner of half the property) is bascilly taking...more

This was a sweet love story. Very predictable but still had an element of surprise. I got a bit frustrated with the main character but I knew it would turn out ok in the end. Interesting information and great descriptions. There was a little bit of religion and it seemed a bit heavyhanded towards the end but not overpowering the story. If you like love stories, you will enjoy this one.....no heavy sex either or it would be good for a YA book and would make a great chick flick movie.

The author Denise Hunter is a Christian author and this is another of her faith building books centered around overcoming your past and looking to the future. Josie returns home to Sweetwater Gap to help her family with the fall harvest of their apple orchard. Her intention is to get her family to sell the orchard and leave as soon as she can so that she doesn't have to face her past but the new foreman Grady is an obstacle she didn't anticipate. I really enjoyed the romance and the reassurance...more

A warm-hearted Christian/Fiction/Romance in a Woman of Faith Series. Although I'm not devoutly religious, I will read anything and I've been satisfied with other faith-based books I've come across. They give you a whole-hearted feeling and Sweetwater Gap did not dissapoint. This was a kind story of living with guilt and a feeling of not being loved by a parent. The fate of a family and those who love you no matter what.

Quick read. It was an ok story. I thought the obvious foreshadowing was annoying after awhile and when it was revealed what the character was referring to it was more, "Finally!!!!" than, "Ooooh!" The "conversion" moment was a bit contrived as well. I appreciated the note from the author after on how the idea came from a real story of sacrifice.

This was a sweet story, though I generally get bored very quickly with misunderstandings and things left unsaid that are typical with love stories, this one was no different. I am really hoping though that if there isn't a follow up story on this couple there will be in the future! I have a feeling that will hold my attention even more.

Excellent book. I got right into it and didn't want to put it down. I thought Josie's struggles were very believable (I had a hard time with the direction the final third of the book went, although it wrapped up in a satisfactory way). The characters were warm, real, and enjoyable. I'll be reading more of Ms. Hunter!

Good read. Got a little irritated with the girl who keeps running away
from everyone because of a childhood accident....but that's where the
forgiveness comes in. It's a woman of faith book. I guess that's put out
by a Christian Book Company. Lots of other titles by this author

I loved this book! It was another great book by Denise Hunter. She skillfully weaves a story of a young woman struggling with guilt over an incident in her teen years. This guilt is preventing her from fully embracing her life and family. The whole story comes together with a wonderful message in the last chapter or two. Hunter has an excellent way of picturing Biblical truth in her stories. While in some of her other books, she has not made her characters to be Christians, not attending church,...more

This is a modern tale of family, love and misunderstanding. The main character, Josie, is haunted by her past and it may prevent her from finding what she needs in the present. This title is also available in large print.

I wasn't in the mood to read this--very easy read, very predictable, cheesy, not sure why I finished it--independent, GORGEOUS single girl who has self-loathing issues meets independent, GORGEOUS single guy who has been hurt. Neither will ever love again..blah, blah, blah.
Emily Wood
A story of second chances. A young woman grieving from haunting memories goes home to find peace with her past and say final goodbyes when love finds her and gives her a second chance at life.

A truly moving read. It's suspenseful, makes you smile-might make you cry-but overall it's a really good book.
I borrowed it from the library, read it in a couple hours, brought it back, and bought my own copy.

I like this author and the story line was good, but the conflict the main character was dealing with throughout the book was a bit unbelievable and overly dramatic. Still, fun escape reading

I've never read a "Women of Faith" novel before and I was less than impressed. It seems that all that is required is to insert some gratuitous prayer here and there. It just seemed forced.
June Guymon
This is a great story that pulls you in from the first page and doesn't let you go until you close the book at the end! Denise Hunter is a wonderful storyteller.

I enjoyed this book...an easy read. The story leads up to a very satisfying ending, linking Christ's sacrifice to a big part of the story. It was somewhat predictable, but I enjoyed it all the same. :)
