Okay, usually I am not a fan of romance fiction or fluffy novels by LDS authors, but when I came to visit my mom she said I had to read it. I was surprised to discover that this book has a well developed plot and gripping story. It's not LDS, but definitely could be considered Christian. If you read it, don't expect anything grand or glorious, but if you get your hands on it, don't expect to have any free time as you can't put it down! As for the story, it's kind of a Romeo and Juliet type o...more

Of all the Anita Stansfield books this book and Gables against the sky are my favorites. I love the setting of old times. I love the way the family is so close, so loving, so open to accept anyone. I love to see how they act with such character. It is written in a way that is a life I would dream of having. Having so much money that you could do whatever you wanted with your life and then choose to spend it helping people. To have such strong family values and really have deep bonds with a...more

This story is christian but not LDS. It is set in Australia during the horse and buggy days. The love story is unique. There is a time where you get so mad you want to throw the book out the window. The first time through I wasn't sure if I liked the angle of the story; however, after having read it 5-6 times, I see a softness to the plot that originally bothered me. I suppose I could see that what happened really had to happen for the well being of the characters.

Definitely my favorite...more

If you love a good romance novel follow this one, this is the first in the set of many books about the same family in many different generations.
Anita Stansfield is my favorite Author, she keeps my interest, and is a wonderful writer. If you read at all, make sure you leave open a few days for this set, you won't be able to put it down!!!

This book is the first book in the Byrnehouse-Davies & Hamilton Saga. I LOVED this book and every single one that came after it. Such a LONG saga.

It is my favorite Anita Stansfield book followed by it's sequal Gables Against the Sky. I love the time period they are written in and the innocent love stories behind all the characters.

This is my favorite of all the Anita Stansfield's books & yes, I've read them all. But the Gables series are by far my favorites. I love the characters as well as the whole story line. She does a great way of pulling you right into the time period, the family & each individual. It's the truly the best of her writings.

Every Anita Stansfield book I have ever read has been nothing short of amazing. I think I speak for the entire LDS woman community in that assessment. This book however is by far my favorite. Perhaps it was the time period, or the characters themselves, but it is the best love story I have read in a long time.

As in typical Anita Stansfield books, their is a complicated love story filled with many, many paragraphs of description that I felt often repeated the same thing. But, I'm a sucker for her books so I read them anyways! And I'm sure I'm going to read the sequal to them also. Worth a read I think.

This is one of my most favorite books of hers. I loved the storyline and how she's tied so many of her books together. This one had more suspense in it than some of her other ones and I think that's why I enjoyed it more. It's a great book to just sit down and read.

Set in late 19th century Australia involving ranching and horse raising - racing. Medium depth of drama and love story. Good for young adult, or older teens. Theme centers around integrity and facing consequences of choices -- following one's good conscience.

At first sight this book was just too much. Too much mush and "what is he thinking about what he thinks I'm thinking" kind of paragraphs. Then the twists started coming and I actually wanted to know what would happen next, even when I guessed it.

I'm absolutely in love with the Byrnehouse-Davies and Hamilton books (or should I say saga). I could read them over and over and over and love them more each time. One day I will find my Jess, Michael, Jesse, or J. Michael - it just has to happen.

My sister read this book and said it was the BEST book she had ever read. I wouldn't go that far, but I enjoyed it. If you're in the mood for a good, clean romance novel this is a good choice. Especially if you like horses and cowboys.

This was another wonderful book by Stansfield, although I did find her writting style to be a bit predictable as to the outcome and on certain events that happened. I still loved and enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the next one.

I loved this book and I read it over and over countless times. One of my all time favorites that I will never become bored of. Anyone who loves horses, the outback and a good love story should sit and read this book.

Was a fun read although I always feel with her that the romance feels a little over the top and lacks reality. Enjoyed the setting but was so mad she married Richard....I did not like that side note.

I love Anita Stansfield, and I love the time period this story was based on. Anita's stories can get a little frustrating because it takes them the whole book to get together, but it's still good.

The best book ever!! This is the book that got me hooked on Anita Stansfield! I really wanted to name my Alli Alexa. Shelby said no. Alli (or Allison) is one of Alexa's granddaughters though.

Another book I borrowed from my mom that she highly recommended and I could not put down - same with the sequel. Includes romance, action, suspense - my favorite combination!
