My husband is a fan of the television show "Bones" and I inevitably end up watching the series with him. I occasionally roll my eyes at the unlikely social ineptitude and maturity level of these "scientists" but it's fun to watch. Oddly, my least favorite character is Temperance Brennan, while my favorite is Boothe. Go figure. :)

This series just keeps getting better and better. Reichs truly knows how to write a novel that keeps you trapped and glued to each page. Tempe is a very down-to-earth character that is relentless at finding out what happened. You literally feel all her emotions. No matter how bad things seem, no matter how much it looks like anyone would give up, Tempe clamps down as hard as a pitbull's jaws and doesn't let go. And even though no one can figure out how Tempe "gets herself into these situati...more

Tempe is back, this time investigating an airplane crash. I have to confess that I took particular creepy delight in reading Reichs’ fourth book while waiting for my flight to Las Vegas the week after 9/11.
The book opens with a somewhat confusing description of bodies scattered through a forest. At first I thought it was a dream sequence of some sort, it was so weird. Then the situation became clearer and we find forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan on the horrific scene of a downed...more

This is an earlier Temperance Brennan story, so I've been reading them out of order. The last one I read made Brennan out to be a MPD, sometimes smart, sometimes dumb. In this story her personality is more consistent throughout the story, as well as more consistent with the character's "billing" -- what you expect from an intelligent person in a murder-mystery. There wasn't the rehashing of the story, either, but because there were so many names, sufficient reminders were given to h...more

Temperance Brennan, book4
This novel follows Ms Reichs other bestsellers by providing the reader with engaging characters, a good sense of humour, facts that give it a plausible and realistic dimension. This author is remarkably talented in describing forensic details for the layman bringing a morbid topic to light with numerous intrigues that include lots of twists and turns.

If not for the plane crash would the foot ever have been found, or anything else? Temp...more

This book is great book for all people out there that loves mystery. This book is the fourth in the series of book about the different cases of Temperance Brennan, world class forensic anthropologist. The story starts with a terrible crash of a plane. When Temperance goes to investigate what was a horrible accident leads her to a very mysterious and confusing case, way more than a accident. I think this book grow the suspense with every page turned. This series also serves as a very loose base f...more

Don't look for Brennan of TV's Bones in this book! Reichs' book Brennan is totally different. While I like some of the medical clues & deductions, some of the explanations went a little too much into detail & I thought detracted from the story. About mid-book I was beginning to think I'd need a program to keep all of the character straight. I've read one other of the Brennan books, before I started watching the TV series, & didn't like the book at all. There seemed to be too much emphasis on the...more

not only did I read this but I read it on a ebook reader. I know completely unforgivable, I would be sorry but I really like these books. This is about a plane crash but not really. spooky... Whenever I read one of these book I am always like "oh like that episode, but not really" and I think that nostalgia makes me like them more. I also like that they never feel like who done its. Sometimes you can tell what the case is like, but I never feel the need to guess who did it, or who did ...more

Of the first several of her books, definitly a favorite. Includes situations in Charlotte, NC and Brison City, NC.
As others have reviewed, the Temerpance Brennan in the books is a far deferent character then that on the tv show Bones. That said, I like both versions of Brennan for different reasons.
This book begins with a main plot and a subplot which switch places during the book. The ending of the subplot is definitly a chilling surprise. Otherwise, this book was s...more

[audiobook:]
I think I need to take a break from this series.
While the Tempe's annoying family members and friends were at a glorious minimum, the plot holes and dropped story lines were exasperating.
The horrible narrator, Kate Harper, didn't help my enjoyment of the book. Her voice was grating, she mispronounced countless words, and she had a habit of over-dramatizing scenes that was often jarring. I long for Barbara Rosenblat's return - I've come to really appreciate the...more

This is the fourth book in the Temperance Brennan series and like the 3 before, an edge of your seat read. After every chapter I would say just one more chapter and then be sucked in for many more! While assisting in the identification of passengers on a recent plane crash, Brennan stumbles upon her worst nightmare. Brennan finds herself fighting to preserve her image as local politicians are working just as hard to sabotage her. A great read that ends leaving the reader ready for book 5!

I am current reading the forth installment of the Reichs series. Due to the change in location for the bulk of the book is makes for a nice change of pace. There are new character's introduced, however there are still tell tale signs of the author's voice. Different features that are found in the last three are also evident in this book. I think it is time for me to move on to something else and then come back later to read the next one in the series. I still really like them, and again they...more

This one ,in addition to the usual mystery, had a tragic plane crash with body parts apparently not belongng to a crash victim among the ruins. It got into the science and forensics of mass disasters. How piece-meal body parts are ultimately, scientifically identified.I found this very interesting. Also, the forensics involved in identifying the "extra" part and where that leads, to complete the investigation. Tempe gets in trouble but wins out in the end as usual.

when i first saw this book on the library shelf, i thought that i had probably read it already, but after checking the title out on goodreads, i found i hadn't, and was delighted to have yet another tempe brennan story to enjoy, which i did. there's a difference between her as a heroine, and goldy bear, the caterer and sleuth. goldy goes ahead doing things she shouldn't, and tempe gets in trouble just following the guidelines, this time. it is a good yarn.

Reichs' politically correct agenda really shows up in this one like never before, and it's not pretty.
Her obvious dislike of religion, conservatives and small mountain communities is written so smugly and condesendingly that I almost put the book away several times in disgust. But the plot line was pretty intriguing notwithstanding, so I kept reading. Mistake! The ending was soooooo ridiculous that I ended up laughing. Give me a break!

This is my favorite of the Temperance Brennan novels thus far. Reichs gives us plenty of scientific detail, but weaves it gracefully into the storytelling rather than taking an abrupt "now it's time for class!" break as I've complained about in previous reviews.
As usual, Brennan is in peril due to her involvement with an investigation, but this time the threat is professional. Early on, she is accused of unethical conduct, and it looks as if she is being set up as a scapego...more

I feel terrible in saying that I liked this book and I also feel terrible in saying that it was just 'ok.'
The story line itself was fascinating and kept me turning the pages with suspense. But the cursing and horrific ending I could have done without. I mean I get that death is brutal, especially in the plot of this book, but I don't really enjoy the evils of human nature. I understand that not everyone is wicked but the ones who are give me goosebumps and make me shudder at the wor...more

people who don't know the tv show
i love the tv show 'bones' and since the show is inspired by the main character of this book, i expected to also love the book. except i didn't. at all. the main character is not the same person. i also found the writing to be a little fragmented and annoying at times with her descriptions of the medical terms and the abundance of abbreviations for the different governmental factions involved. it was a decent enough story, engaging even but i did find that if the phone rang or i had to get the k...more
