In this book, which spoke to me so strongly as a metaphor for a transgendered child, I really was left not knowing, until it happened, what the culmination would be. And reading it through my metaphor, it was painful to try to anticipate--would it happen? How would everyone react? What would the future then bring?
Although the ending worked, the characters' reactions, disappointingly, were anti-climactic. No matter what the culmination, I did expect more hoopla. But perhaps the ultima More...

Fanciful.
Had good build up—very good—but the ending was too fast, and a little anti-climatic.
I especially liked the rant on standardized tests. Made my day!
