From Sam (5 years old): I liked all of the three books. I liked all of the stories, but my favorite one was about the snow. Toad wanted to be in his warm bed. He doesn't want to be cold. Frog wants him to leave home and play in the snow. Toad said Frog was right. It is fun in the snow. Toad didn't notice but he was all alone, and he bonked into a tree and a rock. The sled dived into the snow. Toad went home because bed is better than snow. The next one is The Corner, but that's not my favorite....more

Mary's review: What did you like about the book, Mary? I like when the birds came to eat the cookies. What else did you like? I liked it...I'm sorry, I messed up. I also liked it when Frog snuck the hat and shrunk it in The Hat. Anything else you liked about it? Like, more generally? I like that the words are easy to read. I also liked the pictures. Do you think your dad is awesome? DAAAAD! (Mary is 6 years old)

On the advice of a teacher we bought this set for our son when he was learning to read (but resisting reading). It's difficult to get boys to read, especially when they are starting out and therefore not very confident, but we found these books a treat. They push all the right buttons: the stories are self-contained and of a reasonable length; there is a simple but not patronizing vocabulary; there is repetition but it is not intrusive nor is it really obvious; and the two friends (Frog, who is...more
This is an I Can Read book that can be read in all the elementary classes. The pictures are colorful and the words are easy to sound out. Each adventure has a learning experience. Spring is learning about the seasons and months and what can be done in that season verses a cold season. The story adventure has many sight words in it and it shows what a story looks like and how it has a beginning middle, and end.The lost button was a lesson on different characters in the story helping to find the bu...more
My Opinion:
Five tales about Frog and Toad. Me and my daughter read through these stories then I let her read them by herself. My daughter is not a good reader and this book helped by having repetitive words for her. She could look at the words and know what they are. This is a great help with reading this years library list from her school. Since she is a bit behind on her reading this was the right level for her. If you are looking for something that has some repetitive words for your child to...more

This was my favorite book when I was little! My teacher gave it to me in kindergarten because I already knew how to read and was bored with the tiny books for my age. She gave me this book and another one about spiders and told me to finish them over the weekend. I read the spider one as fast as I could because I was terrified of the pictures. Then I moved onto this book. I loved it so much! But I do not remember very much of it. All I know is that this is a great book for kids who have just lea...more
Three of the four Frog and Toad books in one volume. Frog is the eternal optimist and Toad the pessimist. They are really quite entertaining even for an adult.
Frog and Toad are Friends
"Spring"--Frog tries to wake Toad up because spring has come.
"The Story"--Frog is sick in bed so Toad tries to tell him a story.
"A Lost Button"--Toad loses one of the buttons on his jacket and Frog helps him find it.
"A Swim"--Frog and Toad go swimming but Toad does not want anyone to see his bathing suit.
"The Lette...more

I used these books when I was a volunteer literacy coach and when my oldest was learning to read. I always enjoyed these books and thought they were great beginning readers -- but actually reading them aloud to my 4 year old without being concerned about sounding out the words and just fluidly reading the stories aloud - I have appreciated them in a whole new way. These stories and illustrations are just about as good as it gets!
My daughter received this three-in-one book from a friend for her birthday, and we loved reading every chapter, especially since I remember these book vividly from my own childhood thirty years ago! With the exception of the chapter where everyone laughs at Toad's silly swimsuit (which is still amusing), each chapter provides a great lesson to discuss with children. I read a chapter every night to my five-year-old daughter and four-year-old son, and we always ended each reading with a discussion...more

I think the frog and toad books are good because they're interesting and they're about frogs that are trying to solve things that are sort of like mysteries. I like that they have mysteries, because mysteries are my favorite kind of books. Frog and toad are also cool because I like how they make their habitat and everything like a frog would be, the only thing that is unrealistic is mail and houses and beds.
This is a really good book. Children learn about how to be a friend. some learning concepts that could be learned from this book would be counting, shapes, months of the year, and colors, Children can learn that when you care for someone you would do anything to make them happy.
Extension: An activity after reading this book would be to let the children write a letter to one of their friends.

I LOVE this collection of Frog and Toad stories. I read it repeatedly to my girls when they were 4-7ish and now my 5 yo son requests it all the time. The stories are short and perfect when they want "a few" before bedtime. But they're also charming and comical and all about friendship...they're timeless, really. This has a permanent home on my bookshelf.
One of my favorite childhood book collections that I was pleased to pass along to my kids. "The Story" ranks as one of our kids' favorite all-time stories, while I as a type-A organization freak tend to relate most to "The List." All of the stories are a pleasure to read, and the illustrations match the characters and plot perfectly.
A wonderful way to introduce "chapter books" to a young child. Frog and Toad became quick friends to my lil' man and he frequently asked to be read to from it. A great book for little boys to read about friendship along with caring for and helping others. This treasury is a great addition to any home library for children.
I fondly remember Frog and Toad from my childhood and I was happy to share them with my own children. I have a selective memory though, and had forgotten about some of the wackier, not so interesting plotlines. Our favorites are The Liat, the one about Toad's bathing suit, and C loves the one where Toad yells at his seeds.
I enjoy these stories as reminders of the simplicity to be found in spending outdoorsy time with a friend. Also, I can relate to the characters. For example, one of them decides to plant seeds in his garden and is much impatient over the lengthy amount of time required to see them sprout! This is why I often buy "live/dead" flowers for my vases around the house. I am more easily gratified by the instant color and vivacity when I buy the "3 for $12" bunches at the grocery store than if I spent $1...more
I'm sure I'm not the only one who looked for books to read to my children that I could enjoy, too. After all, if your children like a book, you will probably have to read it to them at least 137 times; it better be something that you enjoy reading as much as they enjoy listening to. The Frog and Toad books are delightful and never lost their appeal after reading to four children, and, now, their children.
