5 Nymphs from Literary Nymphs!
Stevie Woods has written a captivating historical novel in Beyond the Veil. The characters draw you not only into the tale itself, but also into the time. I enjoy how Stevie doesn’t just give you a story, but touches on history and delivers a bit of your past intertwined with interesting characters and plots.

Despite the rather dark subject matter (slavery), I really enjoyed Beyond

This story follows Malik and Robert's lives as adults. Malik is a successful pirate and Robert is running an import/export business out of Tripoli which is a cover for his antislavery campaign. The story is tight and flows well with each man still longing for the other. David was a pain in the ass and I just wanted to tell him to wake up. I likes Suzanna's ambition. The ending was neat and clean with all the loose ends tied up. It's a shame that there aren't more pirate stories around.

This book is full of adventure and the author paints a very vivid picture of life on the Barbary Coast of North Africa in 1780. The main characters as well as the secondary characters in the book are well developed and all three parts of the book flow together well.

It was very easy to read even though the POV changes quite frequently. The end of the book brings all three love stories to a satisfying conclusion, no surprise as this is a romance. I like the author's writing style and enjoyed the

Hmmm - I read Drawing the Veil first, because it is actually a prequel to this book. Maybe that gave me a jaundiced POV, but I thought that book was much better written than this one. Mind you, I enjoyed this book, and mostly things turned out OK in the end, but.... Everyone (especially toward the end) was just too darned nice. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it :)

I just re-read this book and for some reason, I enjoyed it more than I remember. In fact, I was very "ho-hum" about re-reading it. I'm glad I did. It was different. The different pov's on slavery made it intriguing and the characters were interesting and entertaining.
