More...

The first time I read this book I just loved it. I read it at the time when I was asking myself questions regarding 'What to do with my life?'.

I found the book very energizing, giving me a lot of inspiration and motivation to go on and many answers to my questions.

When I read the book the second time, it didn't seem to have the same effect.

PS! Who is looking for great literary value, will be disappointed. Sharma is no writer, but if you can focus on the mes

A spiritual journey of a hot-shot lawyer who owns a 'fabolous' life and a ferrari, and eventually turns himself to become a monk and live a truly enlightened life.
He shares his amazing experience and new wisdom that he has gained to his former colleague. These wisdoms are shared throughout the entire book.
Most of them are really inspirational to live a life full of purpose.

What can I say about this book. At the very begining of it I was glad to read it because it had triggered many bad habits I was doing related to my thinking which awakened me. However, I was doing 3/4 of what Julian was talking about, so I was more familiar with what he mentioned or tired to convey.

The story if fanatic which is produced in a phsycological analysis. It's yes inspirational, but come on! They made the 10 ritual habits so easy to do which is not, when I reached the ha More...

Now I rarely read a book and stopped halfway.
Unless if it's really really boring.
Such as this one.
And it wasn't supposed to be boring. Because it's a fable.
But I didn't get anything out of it.So halfway reading, I skim through the rest.
I have the habit of joting down verses/nice words from my readings and..this book failed to give me anything.

Other than that.. I feel like it's a 'trying too hard version'of 'The Secret', 'Eat Pray Love' (the 'Pray s More...

Read this book if you want to add a new dimension to your life. It is the first spiritual book I read. Usually I didn’t go for such books for the reason that seeking more into religion would cover it. Now I realize that regardless of your religion, these books contain vital knowledge and information that you might encounter for the first time in your life. One topic which was innovative and influential is the inner spiritual serenity, self-knowledge and self-control. I always had a glimpse of it More...

When I heard about this book, I was intrigued by the title 'The Monk who sold his Ferrari'. First thing that popped in my mind was how could a monk own a Ferrari? Its blasphemous, right? I was expecting some cool pitch, but had to contend for the fact that the protagonist became a monk after he sold his Ferrari! Tough luck!

The story, or fable as Mr Sharma puts it, is actually very beautiful. Just while turning the pages, you end up in a serene wo More...

I started reading "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" by Robin Sharma to escape three things. One, depression caused by sadness. Two, sadness caused by many things ( I don't want to list them coz it leads to an essay about my sadness). And finally, boredom which emptied my mind and made way for sadness. In the initial 25 or so pages, the novel seemed to have a story and it was not bad. Two characters were introduced, Julian and John. Soon, we realise that John is somewhat natural and has s More...

Short on story and long on instruction, but an easy, rewarding read

In "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari," Robin S. Sharma clothes sound advice for spiritual and personal growth in a thin mantle of fiction that delivers much instruction but minimal entertainment. However, Sharma’s fictional approach makes for an easy read and good retention of his key principles.

Spiritual/metaphysical content: The narrator spends one revelation-filled night with Julian Mantle learni More...

A lot irritated by the narration, but not the content.

May be it is my prejudice - I find the "fable" approach to self-help books tedious to read. The last one I read, that took a similar approach, was Gung Ho! by Ken Blanchard, and came off thinking that the whole book was silly. The Monk Who... came highly recommended, and hence I plunged in.

The book starts off on a promising note - hot-shot lawyer has a heart-attack in court, right after winning a big case. What h More...

I didnt quite picked up reading The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma until I noticed a friend was wanting to read it but hadn't had time for it. My first thought was the title is too gimmicky. I realized that I was being closed to new ideas by literally judging a book by its cover and title so I finally bought a copy. I’m glad that I read it as it gave an interesting look into an age-old wisdom in a easy-to-read fable.

The book is about Julian Mantle, a high-profile lawyer w More...

This highly marketable philosophy has nothing but old wine in new bottle! Thanks to Robin Sharma, the age old oriental eastern values have find place as an extension in the materialistic town. Even these values able to find takers when it was packaged neatly; B-school buddies will cheer for sure!
Even one will find less literary exhibition in this super successful – life changing – book than most of Young Adult novels. However, it catches us well; the saga of Julian’s (the protagonist) medi More...

The virtues discussed in the book certainly are worthy pursuits and fall into what I think of as common sense living, though certainly not within the realm of common practice. The techniques are also worth considering, like the 10 Rituals of Radiant Living discussed in the chapter dealing kaizen, a Japanese word meaning constant and never-ending improvement. However, I do think, and the author states this as well, that we must each follow our own path when adopting these techniques, lest we be More...

Robin Sharma has done a sweet job in that the book is short! Even though a little simplistic the book is engaging and a breezy read.

This book is a about a lawyer, who has a successful practice but an empty life. A life threatening incident forces him on a path of self discovery. The book is about his experiences in the Himalayas with a band of enlightened monks. He returns to his old friend and narrates his findings and that makes up most part of the book.

While searching for my favorite "The Girl in Blue" to revisit, I came across this inconspicuous book lying smugly amongst my other meager worldly possessions. How it got there is still a mystery!! Robin Sharma presents an story wrapped in simplicity, mystic and wisdom on how to lead an enlightened life, or more simply put how to focus on what will bring true happiness in your life, leading to a happier and healthy you.

Wrapped in a fable of a lawyer that has everything he could want in regards to worldly possessions, he has a heart attack which leads him on a trip to India and the Himalayas where he discovers a step-by-step approach to improving the quality of your life.

أبدع روبن شارما في راويته هذه لأبعد الحدود، فهي حقًا مع راوية ‘الخيميائي’ أفضل الروايات التي قرأتها في حياتي ..

At the end of the day, this might be a useful book for most Type A people but for us who know our limitations and what drives us, it's not that useful. Yes, there comes a time in everyone's life where you push too hard but this is where I believe your family (and/or friends) should intervene and help you re-gain balance[I am from the east so clearly this option is very viable for us, here cuz our family values are very strong and what happens to one member of the family affects everyone, so it's More...

It would be rather an NLP book than a novel, the whole story is about a very successful lawyer (Julian Mantle) telling his friend and co-worker of (John) about his journey to the Himalayas and how did he start living a life of a monk. The book gives some techniques on setting goals, overcoming stress, living a long healthy life, etc.

I usually don't like leaving books unfinished, but this is an exception.... a self-help book .
I hate self-help books, I hate them with a passion. Books that tell you what to do, how to be, what you should be doing, when obviousy what I should be doing is burning such book. I feel like they kill the whole substance of a book.
What got me interested in this book is the tittle, it's catchy, funny, interesting. There are lots of books I've bought simply because the tittle was interesting More...

I finally finished this - -I have been reading off and on for a while. Ugghh - I just didnt really like it. One star seems mean since - I did finish it at least (with a lot of skimming)so I am giving it two. I wasnt expecting super writing but this was pretty bad. It reminded me of Gung Ho! I guess people may take some of this and think wow that is life changing - I'm just not one of those people.
