At the heart of the tale is Jean de Carrouges, a Norman knight who returns from combat in Scotland to find his wife, Marguerite, accusing Jacques LeGris, her husband's old friend and fellow courtier, of brutally raping her. Amid LeGris's vociferous claims of innocence and doubts about the now pregnant Marguerite's charges (and about the paternity of her child), the deadlocked court decrees a "trial b...more

It was a quick read (2 days). He is really good at narrative, for a historian. It's fun to imagine how he took the primary sources and put the story together. Worth reading!

If it is trying to be history, the guy does not have any evidence. It's theoretical rather than real history.

Good "historical" lens as to what was happening in France at the time.
