Fashion designer Bridgett Artise believes in second chances—a philosophy that extends all the way to her clothing line, B. Artise Originals. Fashion gave her a second chance at happiness and success, and, in turn, she gives vintage garments that have lost their luster another chance at being fashionable. Mixing contemporary clothing with the best elements of a vintage piec...more

Recommends it for: anyone who can't appreciate vintage clothes in their original form.
At first I thought "what an excellent idea for a book!" thinking it would be patterns of vintage clothing... However, it is not. It is about how to take items which were much cooler in their original vintage form and regurgitate them into something sometimes passable, sometimes hideous compared to the original cuteness. If you like regurgitated, I mean "reinvented" clothing, then by all means, read away. I kept the book overnight (and gave it a second star) only because there...more

Gorgeous, colourful, and inspiring photos show off the book’s 25 reconstruction projects, and make it easy to judge if these projects fit your style.

Most projects are at an intermediate level that require you to know some sewing terminology and how to sew. Clearly written, simple instructions make the projects do-able despite no work-in-progress diagrams.

Good tips for variations, and a few ideas and cross referencing for what to do with project scraps.

Disappointing. There were a couple cute styles and fun innovative ideas but overall, blah and just plain awful. This book was created to inspire the reader to incorporate vintage in your wardrobe. Unfortunately the articles of clothing chosen were dreadful, turning me off to most of the new reinvented looks.

Instructions are very brief. Easy to understand for a intermediate sewer, but might pose a challenge for a beginner.

Borrow from a friend or the library, but do not was...more

Adult nonfiction; sewing. The projects in here were mostly ugly and largely looked like they were put together by an amateur sewist (as opposed to the author of a sewing/fashion book). A few of them weren't bad (replacing the bottoms of the jeans with sweater arms to make stuffing into the boots easier was actually clever) but overall this book is not worth purchasing.

I checked this book out from the library, thinking it would be a fun how-to book. Maybe some people would enjoy it, but I just found myself thinking that it was a bummer how they took perfectly snazzy old dresses and things, chopped them up, and made less-snazzy things with the pieces.

Let's take some adorable vintage dresses and sweaters and turn them into t-shirts, leg warmers, arm warmers and "corsets"! Besides being of questionable taste, everything in this book has that Busy Hands At Home look that I've spent years of careful sewing to avoid. Just say No.

One or two of the ideas were kinda cute but most of them made me think "what a waste of a perfectly nice ____!" Also, all of the models were stick thin, surprie suprise. Would have been nice if they had some ideas that would look suitable on a more fleshy individual. I was expecting some advice on how to make vintage items have a more modern fit but that was not what it was about.

Thrifted clothing isn't always perfect, and many times I have wished that I knew how to turn a dress into a skirt, a skirt into a dress, or that I could just figure out how to alter the fit or the line of something so that it looks more modern. And then I read this book! Hooray! I like the elegant kookiness of the designs.

While most of the styles in this were for the younger set (I need sleeves to cover ancient arms), the ideas were good and could be used to spark other ideas. The whole book was geared to getting you to use your imagination to reuse clothing.

This book is inspiring! I really want to get my act together and try some of the projects!

Mildly inspirational but too styled to be very practical. It would have been nice to see more examples and on a greater diversity of women, not just models. Instructions for the projects are very brief - not for new sewers.
