I thoroughly enjoyed reading Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, the fourth book in the Immortals After Dark series. I was not as enamored with this story as I was with the third book, but I had fun reading it just the same.

I loved this book!! I fell in love with Bowe in A Hunger Like No Other and since then I've wanted him to get his happy ending. I will admit that when we heard others speaking about his dead mate she didn't sound lije the best match for him.

Well this book did not disappoint! It was full of twists and turns, emotion, humor and more great characters!! It picks up where the last one left off and Bowe has to go rescue Mari from the cave he trapped her in so she can lift his curse or he'll die.

What can I say that hasn't been said? Loved it, almost as much as the previous book, "No Rest for the Wicked". If you enjoy sexual tension and sexual bantering in your books, this read will not disappoint! And when the H/H FINALLY get down to it--yowza!

And that’s when all the fun begins because naturally, Mari is pissed as hell and there is no way she’s taking crap from a werewolf.

Bowen and Mari are wonderful together. Their love/hate relationship is so entertaining and downright hilarious! Their banter is enough to keep me reading for hours. But in addition to the great chemistry, Cole does a great job with her world building and character development. Bowe is a total package with the Scottish accent (though I had a hard time reading it at first, but it’s dead sexy) and dark possessiveness and Mari is a strong modern girl that shines in comparison to the plain and proper, Mariah.

And when they get down to it, things are steeeeamy! BUT when Bowe yells out MARIAH instead of Mariketa’s name during the act, things get sour pretty quick. Imagine the shock and mortification at hearing your lover yell out his ex’s name during sex! I’d smack him if I were Mari! Totally not acceptable.

Anyway, the ending was great and I loved how all the pieces of the plot fit together neatly. Makes me want to grab the new books and start reading ASAP!

5 stars, without hesitation.

I adored the twists and turns and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Actually I listened to Robert Petcoff's narration, which couldn't have been better; it was perfect!! With each book, I fall for Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series even more. I can say that I have no favorite yet because I think every new book is my favorite.

Book #4 in the Immortals After Dark Series and I loved it! Bowen (the werewolf that is mentioned in books #2 and #3 that lost his mate) finds his "true mate" in this one. A witch of all things. The sparks fly (literally) and this was a fun paranormal read.

The series should be read in order. In book #3 when they are at the tournament before it starts there is a witch there, covered up, and Bowen is attracted to her. Pay attention to this, it comes up later!

I really liked this book, and probably would have given it at least another half star (I know, you can't do that!) if it hadn't been so much: they're together - they're NOT together! The back and forth stuff got a little old, but was almost worth it when they finally had their HEA.

I’ve read the first 8 installments of the Immortals After Dark series, and so far, Bowen and Mariketa’s book is my favorite.

It is a very exciting part of the series. The world of the Lore is revealed in more details: its inhabitants, rules, myths, and relations. The story represents deep emotions, hard choices, incredible twists, destiny, prophecy, magic, passion, adorable characters, and sparkling dialogues.

WOWZERS!! This book was sooo much better than "No Rest for the Wicked". I freaking LOVERED IT!!

It picks up at the END of NO REST but you don't have to READ that book to figure out what's going on.

This one is about Bowen MacRieve. If you've read Hunger LIke No Other then you will know that BOWEN is Lachlan's cousin. OH YUMMERS!! Bring in the werewolves!! Woowee!!

We meet Bowen MacReive a very depressing Lykae( werewolf). After two centuries living with the guilt he feels caused his mate to die, he is one angry wolf. So Bowen becomes well known in No Rest for The Wicked where he is participating in the Hie the supernatural version of the amazing race, lets just say he doesn’t win the prize at the end. So he is in a bloody bad mood seems like a dog just lost his bone. He then spots a witch and he hates witches, after leaving said witch locked in a tomb with some other species thinking they can make it out there was he ever wrong. After so long he is finally attracted to someone and the guilt is nawing at him, his wolf instinct wants to claim said hated witch as his mate and everyone knows you only get one mate in a Lykae immortal life. His mate was dead “so wat up wit dat”. Plus it seems the witch is still locked in the tomb, the gods really aren’t smiling down on Bowen.

Mariketa is pissed and when she leaves the tomb she will have a certain Lykae’s head. After 3 weeks of darkness no food and water it seems that Mari’s life is hanging by a very thin thread. Mari hasn’t come into her immortality yet so she could die in this cave without ever have achieved anything. She would hate the Lykae if she didn’t want his pants removed. Finally rescued and fed, Bowen is talking about mate and a whole bunch of craziness that she does not want to hear. Stuck in the middle of a jungle with hostile humans hell bent on destroying each other. Throw in her destructive magic and an overbearing werewolf and the hot blazing sun all you can think about is wicked deeds. A werewolf and a witch is about set the lush greenery on fire causing the destruction of some jungle animals.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night is a joyride of every emotion you can think of. Bowen is pure gorgeousness wrapped in a hotness package. His Scottish burr will leave goose bumps on the skin he is all alpha male and funny as hell. I loved his character. Mariketa a bit annoying in the beginning but she grows on you and creates a nice balance to Bowen. They will have to overcome a many obstacles which leads to a happy ending. This series makes me feel like a kid in a candy store, so many sweets for the sampling and by sweets I mean men. Its like my mom saying “ hey, hurry up and pick one” but you know that you cant because they all look so freaking good. So take walk down this candy isle and sample a wide range of flavours don’t forget to brush. Man I love this series pure wicked fun, also can be enjoyed on a springs night.(less)

Okay, I'm officially hooked on this series. I heard from a lot of people that this book was a "weak link" so to speak, but I was hooked. Great characters, great twists and turns, great romance. (Oh, and great sex, of course...)

So a buddy on Twitter recommended I try these again while on a search to find something to help me through my psy-changling fix. And you know what? I did like this one. Enough that I'm looking to get my hands on the next book in the series. It's got manly-men. And you know how much I love a manly-man in a book!

So yeah, I liked Bowe. He was awesome! Not afraid to fight and he was surly. With a Scott's accent! So yeah, I liked Bowe. He was awesome! Not afraid to fight and he was surly. With a Scott's accent! I loved their banter! One of them always had something snarky to say.

I liked how Mari seemed to grow up throughout the book. Even though *I* really wanted her to, I liked that she didn't just fall at his feet and forgive him. I liked that she stood up to him, even when she was terrified. Though I didn't like how she was always so quick to use her magick on him. You didn't see Bowe going out of his way to go all wolf on her, did you? I don't know how I feel about the mirrors. They were kind of weird. I thought that it would turn out worse than it did though. Any time they mentioned feet being off the ground and glowing eyes, I always thought that she was pretty awesome and scary.

I would have liked to see more about the other five that were in the group. Specifically Cade. Does he have his own book? Will he? If so, I really want to read it! Ryoderm (was that his name?)seemed like too much of a nice guy. He needs to get a little angry.

And I loved the end! I thought that it wad really sweet and it made me grin. Tell me you felt the same way, too! I admit that I didn't want to read the book because of the cover. It makes it looks like it's a vampire book (not that I have anything against them, I like them, too). But it's totally not. I wonder when this was published first?

Is it wrong that I liked this part?:

I loved this book. I was totally caught up in the whole is-she-isn't-she his mate drama, I just love some emotional turmoil and Bowen is the King. I felt for him from the second he was introduced in 'A Hunger like no Other'. He was broken, broody, and hurting following the death of his Fated mate on the night he was meant to claim her. For nearly two-hundred years Bowen had avoided letting another into his life, and it had left him ruthless and cold - until he found his real mate in the form of the fun-loving little witch Mari. I love Mariketa and I really wanted to hate Bowen for locking her in that damn tomb while she was still mortal, she could have died!! I found myself fascinated with her powers, being a five chaste witch meant she was something special, and the whole captromancer thing was just cool, but it was her easy going attitude that I really liked. She was a real likable character and everyone seemed to love her.

There were some very steamy scenes in this book. Like when Bowe and Mari bathed in the cave together. Christ but those Lykae men have no shame, and major boundary issues... lol. I also liked it when they fought and made up at the water-fall. Yum!! But the Hottest scene was when they actually mated!! The way Mari had him pined to the tree exploring his naked body before she used her magic to control him and start the love making was something else. It makes me all tingly just thinking about it. But then Bowe had to go and mess up by calling her by someone elses name!! Fool!! I swear I laughed when Bowe woke up in the morning and found Mari's very crude message in the dirt. Hilarious!! But I felt bad for her cause she really loved him.

The action in this book was equally great. It starts off with the remaining immortals trapped in the tomb fighting for their lives. Then there is the testosterone fueled run in between my man Cade and the big bad wolf Bowen. And wait till you read about the carnage involving the disappearance of a certain lil witch. But it was the end of the book and the fight between Mari and the big bad that I loved the most. We get a real look into the amazing power that is Mariketa the Awaited. Our girl kicked some major ass!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through it, and gasped like a million times when the truth was revealed to Mari and poor emotionally damaged Bowe. I swear I cheered when that witchy bitch got what was coming to her. Ha!

Anywho, this is another great book in an amazing series, so run off a grab a copy. You'll love it!!(less)

Another great book by Kresley Cole. I LOVE the Lykae men in her books and this one centers around Bowen. The tragic loss of his mate has left him a shell of a werewolf. We first meet Bowen in A Hunger Like No Other. He was a hard drinking man, barely living, just existing. OH MY!

I loved this book. I am a sucker for a good paranormal romance and I loved this one. I loved Bowen and the CHEMISTRY he had with Mariketa. The book had an interesting plot, exciting action, and plenty of hot werewolfy sex! ::yowza:: I read this book all day and didn't want to put it down. I liked it much more than book 3 of the series and am hopeful the next one will be just as good. These books are very addictive- BRAVO Kresley Cole!

I'm really hooked with the Immortals after Dark Series and book 4 just attached me even more.. Let me tell you I love the Lykae men in Kresley Coles books I always love insanely jealous and possessive males and this one centers around Bowen who you find out in the previous books that he has lost his mate a century ago and it's also about Mariketa the Awaited a witch. Each one better and better. I decided I have a real thing for Scottish werewolves!! Kresley has a bit of a formula, but not so much that it bothers me! I really intend to get back these reviews but those are easier to do at certain times but right now, is a good time for reading.

This is the fourth book in Kresley Cole's wonderful Immortals After Dark series.

We've already met the principal hero and heroine. Bowen MacRieve is the tortured soul from A Hunger Like No Other. Mariketa the Awaited was introduced in the immediately previous No Rest for the Wicked. Whilst she only had a few pages of time at the beginning of the Hie, her effect on Bowen actually resonated throughout the book and indeed, had a hand (or a paw, depending on your point of view) in who won the Hie.

Mariketa the Awaited was introduced in the immediately previous No Rest for the Wicked. Whilst she only had a few pages of time at the beginning of the Hie, her effect on Bowen actually resonated throughout the book and indeed, had a hand (or a paw, depending on your point of view) in who won the Hie.

Because a large part of this book runs concurrent with No Rest for the Wicked, it's shown what Mariketa actually did to Bowen. Which, I felt, was fully justified. Because of events in A Hunger Like No Other and No Rest for the Wicked, it's known why Bowen is so tortured and why he entered the Hie.

In Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night the reason for his grief is shown in more detail in a prologue that is set 180 years ago. And so whilst this paranormal romance between an unlikely pairing of a lykae and a witch is read with a feeling of how both are going to overcome their huge differences with each other, there is also the mystery of how Bowen's grief is going to be lifted.

Fortunately, there's an interesting twist in the tale towards the end in the final climatic battle that I didn't see coming. Oh, the fact that Bowen's past and present would meet was almost a foregone conclusion. The shock was the revelation and how it came about. And so the whole mourning thing. Not an issue any more.

I have to admire Kresley Cole in giving us to very different heroes in Bowen and Mariketa because this could have read very similar to Lachlain and Emmaline. True, both Lachlain and Bowen were obnoxious, arrogant, overbearing and...oops, sorry. Ranting there. That's how they both started off and against them are set the apparently weaker women. In fact, Mariketa could have been worse because at least Emmaline was already immortal and in control of her powers. Mariketa, not so much.

However, Mariketa is neither held against her will...er...actually, I suppose she is. Well, she's not actually held by Bowen...hmm...but he put her in that situation. Alright then, just like Emmaline, Mariketa soon proves that she can hold her own against the big, bad wolf.

With the exception of the wonderful Nucking Futs Nix, all of the previous characters only play brief cameo appearances. Even Lachlain only has a few more pages than the rest. A great addition to the series only marred by the continued use of the nonsensical 'doona' instead of 'dinnae' (one is slang for a quilt and the other means 'do not').(less)

Kresly Cole pulls off a neat trick in this paranormal romance by giving us a male protagonist who is an active sonofabitch, not merely a grandstanding jerk but a pretty villainous fellow, and makes us empathize with him almost completely. The heroine is no slouch either, and this is one of the best in this series for filling in the blanks of the complex paranormal world Cole's in the process of creating here.

It was definitively a good buy. Although there are so many paranormal series out there, I liked the world that Ms Cole has created and think it is quite unique. Part of its uniqueness is due to the paranormal beings she chose which includes Valkyries (kind of like Amazon), elves and other creatures that we are less accustomed to see and also the fact that they are all immortals. Because of their immortality, many characters seem to not have adapted to the modern world and so, there is a very primitive feel to the books.

So onto Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night; the story actually overlaps with the timeline of No Rest for the Wicked, which is something unusual, but interesting. Our two main characters, Bowen MacRieve (a Lykae) and Mariketa (a witch) are participating to the Hie, some kind of supernatural Amazing Race. Bowen covets the final prize: a key that allows to go back in the past twice which he would use to go back in time and save his mate, while Mariketa wants to prove herself… See, Mariketa is the Awaited… Awaited for what, no one really knows, but she has incredible amount of power and is a witch of the 5 castes (kind of like branches such as healing branch, warrior branch, enchantment branch, etc.) which is really rare; however, she doesn’t have control over her magic and 99 out of 100 times she uses her magic, she ends up blowing thing. Thus, she wants to prove herself to her coven and her friends that she is worthy to be the Awaited one… The only problem is that the Hie is extremely dangerous, especially when you’re still mortal. See, Mariketa is only 23 years old and she hasn’t transitioned from mortal to immortal yet, but no one knows. So when Bowen traps her along with two demons and 3 elves in a Mayan temple, she’s in big trouble… especially from the incubi that have been jailed there for centuries.

I’m not going to go into more details about the plot although I want to. All I have to say is that I really enjoyed the book, especially the beginning. The storyline was interesting and clever. I also enjoyed the characters of this book a lot. We’ve already been introduced to Bowen in the previous book… he’s a bitter and violent Lykae, having lost his mate and all. He’s also ruthless, dominating, violent… and it works. I mean, I wouldn’t want him as my mate, but I understand where it comes from. First, he’s lykae… he’s also lost his mate and has lived hundreds of years of celibacy. However, we see him soften up a little throughout the book and I’ve come to like him. As for Mariketa, I really enjoyed her. She’s fun, witty and tough, but not too tough. She’s able to handle herself against Bowen, which, seriously, is admirable. Bowen and Mariketa match well also, even if they are very different, and their relationship is like a roller-coaster. Like Rosie said, seeing the issue of age (1400 y.o. vs. 23 y.o.) being addressed was also interesting... The secondary characters were well developped and recurring characters appeared, all without taking over the books.

My only complaint is when Bowen finally considers that perhaps Mariketa is his mate, he finally gives in and want to have sex with Mariketa... I found that part draggy. Also, I didn't really care for the sexual tension and sex scenes. I don't really like Ms Cole's sex scenes; I think it's because they also somehow feel primitive... not in a bad way, but just not my style. That aside, the beginning and ending of the book were strong with a good plot and characters, so it made up for it.

Kresley Cole is the shit. Really! I know when I pick up one of her books I'm A. Going to laugh out loud. B. There will be balls to the wall action from beggining to end. C. It will be good and juicy in many parts. D. I know that I'll get to visit the intricate world of the Lore, a detailed and complicated place that is immaginative and consistent. It contains many different supernatural creatures who, like us mortals, are just looking for love in all the wrong places.
