I am so done with forking over $9 for a slice of pie at Cafe Gratitude, so I decided to teach myself to fish--if by "fish," I mean "grind up hazelnuts and raisins, dehydrate, and call the mixture truffles." I haven't had a chance to make anything yet, but everything looks amazing and I really appreciate the logical, Cook's-Illustrated-esque structure of the book: all recipes in a given chapter are variations on a master recipe, which inspires you to come up with your own versions. well , i'm starting a lil raw dessert business , with the naive hope it will pay my rent while in grad school . my only wonder is -- all these ingredients are expensive - irish moss, raw almonds, etc . so i wonder how i will be able to Not charge 10 bucks/ piece like cafe gratitude . my first project will be peach mousse pie (early white peaches are in in the farmer's market) . i hope to infuse the peaches with rosehips & make a macadamia-ginger crust. maybe some mint for the turn-style. i ...more

"I Am Luscious" should be the title of this one. Vegan and raw desserts...and we are not just talking about bowls of fresh fruit here. And I was able to get all the ingredients I needed at the local Safeway. Think Tiramisu, Lemon Poppyseed Cake, Pecan Turtle Cheesecake, Ginger Spice Ice Cream sandwiches. Dessert First!

great book to understanding the basics of making raw food deserts.

learned a lot about irish moss, something i grew up drinking in jamaica. i liked that the author provided the history and medicinal properties behind the ingredients to be used.
