The concept of this book is pretty simple: Robinson distinguishes between "believing IN Christ" and "believing Christ." The idea is that while many of us believe in Christ's divinity - His role as the Son of God and the Savior of mankind - too many don't believe Christ when He says He can save us personally. Robinson always shares an important "saved by grace" emphasis that is helpful in an all-too-often works-based Mormon culture. "Believing Christ" h

I first read this book in college, and it had such a huge influence on me. I don't know if I just read it at a time in my life when I needed it, or what, but I really loved it. I even took his New Testament class at BYU -- an absolutely amazing teacher!
I particularly loved the parables and analogies he uses, especially the section where he talks about his wife having a huge meltdown because she just can't do it all. I have felt that SO many times in my life. This book really help More...

This was a wonderful book to read-- especially during the Easter season. The author gives several analogies and examples that help us to understand our relationship with the Savior and what He has done for us and how that can apply to our everyday lives. I would highly recommend it.

I had Stephen Robinson as a New Testament teacher and learned much from him not only on the background of Jewish life in New Testament times, but also much about his lessons in the gospel. The glimpses I got about the premise of the book from class were thought-provoking and I think one we need to focus on more often. I have owned this book for years, but never finished it, so I finally pulled it out.

I loved this book. The ideas were laid out clearly and very straight forward. I am glad to learn more about how both grace and works are necessary for our salvation. Some wonderful ladies from the Baptist church came by my door and showed me the steps to accept Christ and spoke of how we are saved by grace and not by works. They used the analogy that if I was going to give you a gift but said you had to go wash my car first, then it’s not really a gift. I felt inadequate in my attempts to e

Kudos to Stephen E. Robinson for writing a wonderful work on the grace of Jesus Christ. Grace, a word used in Christianity and the church world alike, is often misunderstood. Thank you Mr. Robinson for turning the eyes of believers and unbelievers back to the heart of the matter and clarifying what so many others get wrong.

The Savior can and WILL make up the difference between our best and what it takes to qualify for the celestial kingdom! We just have to do our part, which is to do our level best and keep trying until the end!! At baptism we promised to take His name upon us and remember Him always, and to BE WILLING to keep His commandments. We are not perfect and will never be on this earth, He doesn't ask us to be perfect, He asks us to do our best and repent when we fall short, and keep trying.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The author had some great insights. It deffinately got me thinking about my personal faith, and affinity to do the things which are commanded in the scriptures. I would have to say that the book was somewhat booring in the begining. The basic premise of the book was believing what Christ taught, rather than believing that he existed. That point seemed to drag on and on, but picked up again after sharing a few stories, and giving a unique perspective from Christ's vantage point.

Again, this review is in answer to someone else's review who thought that the book was bad, and lead to spiritual decadence because we no longer worry about striving for perfection if we trust in Christ to perfect us. After I took the time to respond to their review, I decided that the response deserved to be posted here as my review:
The real question is, if the book is so bad, then why did Elder Oaks so strenuously praise it? It is one of a very few books actually RECOMMENDED in the More...

I may have to read it again. This guy really lost me in on of the examples he did in the book. The idea is amazing, that we believe that Christ existed but sometimes, without noticing, we don't believe him.... thus the title: Believing Christ. Too often we don't forgive ourselves for this and that and do the same towards others, we say we are Christians, but then, how can we say that and not believe that He forgives us all and that we should do the same? Tell me what you believe without works, a

This is a great book. It teaches about Jesus Christ and the meaning of the atonement in a way that makes it very simple to understand. I guess it has almost become cliche since so many have read it and can understand it and now use similar metaphors in trying to explain the atonement and how it applies to us. It is written to an LDS audience (members of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) but could certainly by appreciated by people of other faiths as well.

This book really touched my heart. The author put in so many of his own stories and personal experiences that the lessons he taught were almost tangible. I couldn't help but feel good as I read it. Come to think of it, I ought to read it again - it's not a very long one at all. And I should probably read the sequel.
Really, you should read it. It will help you visualize your relationship with the Savior. And like I said, it's not very long.

The main message of this book is the need to not only believe that Christ was and is, but to believe IN the eternal truths of his ministry. Meaning, if we truly believe in Christ, then we will realize that we cannot return to our Heavenly Father without the atonement of Jesus Christ. We must accept that we are not perfect, but work towards perfection all the same, realizing that as we put forth our strongest and most valiant efforts, that Christ will make up the difference where we are weak.

A must-read for any Christian, but particularly for Mormons. This is what it's all about, boiled down to the one basic thing. So often, we get caught up in the little things of life, and forget the main thing. If it were up to me, this would be required reading of any baptized Latter-day Saint. An amazing life-changing read that will (hopefully) never leave you.

This book really helped me understand my own faith better and my relationship with Jesus Christ. Don't misunderstand me: certainly the Bible and the Book of Mormon are much more inspirational and important reads. However, Robinson does an excellent job of explaining what we should already know based on the doctrines taught by the scriptures. A short but excellent read.

This book has been teaching me a lot about Christ's atonement and what it really means to us. I have really appreciated it's reminder that we don't have to be perfect or do everything all at once. The Lord only expects us to keep trying and repenting. I haven't finished it yet but I hope it will go into Justification vs. Sanctification a little further...

A great help to anyone who has fallen into overemphasizing the second half of "we are saved by grace after all that we can do". A strong reminder of our place relative to Christ's in our salvation - that he is the Savior and we are the ones being saved and how that gentle fact can carry us through the overwhelming pressure to be perfect as a Christian today.

What a beautiful explanation of the Atonement! This book is for every person who feels overwhelmed and overburdened, especially by the demands we place on ourselves when we try to "be ye therefore perfect." It is an easy read in a light, almost conversational style, but the power of the "good news" it teaches makes it worth a thorough study.

Book summary: Author Stephen Robinson illustrates the power of the Savior as he uses analogies and parables, such as his own bicycle story, and scriptures and personal experiences in this moving, best-selling book. -Mortals have finite liabilities,- he explains, -and Jesus has unlimited assets.- By merging the two, exaltation can come. As long as we progress in some degree, the Lord will be pleased and will bless us. We must not only believe in Christ but also believe him - believe that he has

Everyone needs a Savior. Thank goodness Jesus atoned for all of us. Satan tries hard to convince people that they're too wicked to be saved, that they don't deserve it. This book helps you understand that no one "deserves it," but by His grace, the Lord wants to redeem everyone if they will come unto Him. And believe Him.

Oh, Wow! What can I say? This answered questions I had, and even questions I didn't know I had. And it reaffirmed what I did know. I recommend this to ANYONE, but especially anyone struggling with their own imperfections to the point that they may be losing faith. It is an answer to many prayers from me . . . .

Wonderully comforting and explanatory introduction to our relationship with Christ the Son. Built around the central premise that we must not only believe in Christ, we must literally believe Him. This book deals principally with embracing the covenant with Christ, that is, believing in Him and coming to Him.

This book and its companion "Following Christ" should be must reads for all LDS church members and for any outside the church that wants to be clearer on the statement "saved by grace after all we can do". They are small books, quick readers, but packed with alot to think about.

I really enjoy Stephen Robinson mostly because of his use of parables that are easy to relate to. I appreciated his discussion on how must of us believe Christ (of him) but too often we don't believe in him and allow him to bridge the gap in our lives. Definitely a must read!

This was the book that pulled me out of the deep. I have always "believed in christ", but never "believed christ". It also had a ton of other "ah-ha's" and I knew that, just didnt apply it. Its been challenging to do and remember things I learned from it, but I totally loved it.

This book was life changing. I listened to it on cd. I had not realized that I believed IN Christ more than I BELIEVED Him when He says I will be forgiven. Seriously, insightful and life-changing. I recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their relationship with Christ.

This book truly changed my life and perspective. It will truly help you understand what the Savior has done for us, and how we can really allow him to help us in our lives. I absolutely loved the parables he gives and really it will change your life. Very short and easy.

If we ever want to truly understand our personal relationship with Christ and his atonment I highly recommend this book. I am currently reading the sequel to this book called "Following Christ". This book changed many things for me in my life, well worth the read.
