I always lament the fact that there is no "Chicagoan" to rival "The New Yorker." Apparently, there was at one time, but it has long since been forgotten. Neil Harris shows us why. Harris does a great job pulling together the life of this magazine, but his work highlights how it never had a chance as an object of respect, neither here nor certainly on the east coast.
