Stay With Me, by Garret Freymann-Weyr was a very enjoyable book. It wasn't just a sappy teen story but had depth and mystery as well. The story focuses on a girl named Leila Abranel who experienced a tragedy: the death of her step sister. Although she didn't really know her step sister that well, the death still hit pretty hard and the whole family was affected because of also the death of the sisters mother earlier that year. The book follows Leila's life after these tragedies and shows how she...more

I didn't like this book at all. I think the blurb was misleading; it made the book seem really interesting, but within the first few pages, I was bored to death. I finished the book, thinking maybe it would get better, but it didn't. Since the book talked a lot about family history and stuff like that, it didn't keep me very interested in it. There isn't much to say about this lackluster book. It wasn't that good in my opinion, I just didn't like it.

There were moments in this novel that kept me hooked till I finished. What I enjoyed most was the writing style. Freymann-Weyr used in describing the reasons why the main character’s sister killed herself, or why she refused to sleep with her boyfriend or how she was falling in love with a 30 year old man while she was 17. The suspense and the minor yet explicit details created a bigger picture that kept the reader wanting more and more. What I also enjoyed about this book was its messages - i...more

i dont normally write reviews on here, but this novel really touched me.
this is a story of a 16 year old who has 2 half-sisters from her fathers prior marriage. the sister that she is close with commits suicide, and the girl spends a lot of time questioning why, and trying to find a deeper meaning behind her sisters death.
there are also very genuine family moments, and a great love story.
it just really hit close to home, and i loved it.

Another rarity - a book that I almost didn't get through. I started this back in February or March, while I was doing my practicum at the library...and kept putting it down because I couldn't get into it. I kept thinking it was going to have a point and/or get better...apparently, not so much.
The story of a 17-year-old who dumps her boyfriend for a 30-year-old man...meanwhile trying to figure out why her older sister has killed herself.

To be honest, I couldn't even get through the first 70 pages of this book; I'm just logging it in as "read" so I don't pick up this book again by accident.
I guess the story is supposed to be about a girl who tries to figure out why her half-sister committed suicide. But the story kept going from how secretive her sisters were... to 9/11. I didn't see a connection at all and it was starting to annoy me... so I quit reading it.

Finally finished this. I would have read it more quickly, but it's got some difficult subject matter (suicide). It's very emotional and intellectual, like the other books of hers that I've read, and I love her NYC settings. I read & loved her first 2 books, skipped over the 3rd and now know that I LOVE her 4th (even though it took me over a year to get around to reading it). I need to go back and read her 3rd one now.

Clear, quiet and entrancing coming-of-age story. Leila is as real a character as you could wish for, and she inhabits her odd, semi-detached family with a certain prickly ease. We learn here about the ripples cast by Leila's older half-sister's suicide, and what a family can do after a tragedy like this. Just lovely. Beautiful writing, fully realized characters, and instantly recognizable situations.

I really liked this book. It was very different from what I have read recently which was a very welcome. Throughout reading the book I found myself wanting to see Leila succeed in school and I often found myself wondering as well why Rebecca chose to kill herself. I thought it was a great book.

i enjoyed this book for the same reason i enjoy most movies: the characters. Freymann-Weyr really knows how to create a character that you care about. i would ask Leila to be my friend...that's how much i liked her.

This is some pretty great YA fiction. It follows the narrator through the year after her older sister's suicide. The ending maybe wrapped up a little too easily for me, but other than that, it was lovely.

The writer does a great job of getting in the mind of a 17-year-old girl. It's a YA book, but I'd recommend it to anyone.
