This book isn't really one of my typical romance books. It's different in which the husband and wife really don't have much interaction with each other because he's working out of town and she's at home trying to keep things going. At first I thought I really wasn't going to like it but I really liked the way the author wrote and even though there wasn't much interaction with the husband and wife you still wanted to keep reading to see what would happen. This was my first book to read from this...more

This is a good book about a man who had to make the hard decision to leave his family in order to support his family during the Depression. While he's away he asks their closest neighbor to look out for his wife and children. Jack agrees to help them out since he's been in love with Anna Mae, Harley's wife for a long time. Anna Mae starts to doubt whether or not her husband, Harley will return home to them.

This was my first Kim Vogel Sawyers book, and I fell in love with her lyrical yet concise prose. In few words, she's able to let me feel what her character is feeling right down to the texture of the woman's kitchen. Wonderful writer.

The book was interesting but too cheesy for my tastes. I'm Christian and enjoy Christian oriented books but this one was over the top cheesy. The story isn't too slow but doesn't have any heart stopping moments either. It was easy to guess where the general story line would lead.

This is a sweet story of a married farming couple that live in Kansas during the drought. Harley has to leave the farm to find work to provide for his family leaving his wife, two daughters and one on the way.

Harley asks their neighbor, Jack, to help take care of Anna Mae while he's away. Unfortunately, Jack tries to take things much further than Harley intended.

The story has some good lessons in it. I found it to be lovely and enjoyable.

not a mystery, and yet ... there WAS suspense

a heart-twisting story where you could pretty much relate to every character at some point. down to earth REAL people w/ REAL problems, yet, w/ a REAL ending

fantastic read!!!

I picked this book up because of the title. I read it because it was written by a Kansan about the area of Kansas that I call home. It was a nice read.

This was the second book I have read by this author and I really loved it. The characters really come to life. I could not put it down!

A bittersweet story, but with a joyous ending. Good read.
