I actually read the rest of the Sisterhood series first as this book was so hard to get in the library. The book is a fast and entertaining read.
After her pregnant daughter Barbara was killed in a hit and run accident by a Chinese diplomat whose diplomat status saved him from prosecution, Myra goes into a depression for over a year. The depression ends when she watches a mother shoot the man who had been freed on a technicality after the man murdered her daughter. Myra vowed that she would help...more

This book was somewhere between awesome and awful. It was completely cracked out and unrealistic as all get out and yet, I enjoyed the heck out it.
Years ago I watched an episode of that tv show L.A. Law. In this episode there was a woman who was raped but her rapist escaped prosecution because he had diplomatic immunity. So the woman walks over and shoots the guy and then hands over her gun and says "read me my rights." I flashed onto this episode while reading this book because this book includ...more

First in the Sisterhood suspense series revolving about a group of women gathered together to find justice for those whom the law has failed.

2 ½ stars. Characters not developed. Action and events not interesting enough. Dialogue was so-so. Needed more suspense.

A couple weeks ago I was browsing in the public library and struck up a conversation with this sweet older lady. She's probably in her late 60s. And seemed like the nice grandmotherly type. In the course of the conversation she recommend Fern Michaels Sisterhood series. So I picked it up. Little old ladies are rarely wrong, right? Wrong.

This was one of those books that made me glad I've adopted a three chapter rule. After the first two chapters I was convinced that this book was headed for a early departure to the bad book graveyard. It was disjointed as the author spent more time attempting to build the foundation for a series rather than focusing on the current storyline. Also, having listened to the audiobook, the narrator was mediocre at best and made it hard to get through. However, the book takes off once the sisterhood i...more
This is a story with balls!!! Get your attention? Well it is true. This novel really does have balls. Literally. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the fact that the writing is a tad rushed and a bit amateurish compared to many other bestsellers. I have passed over this novel thru the years because for some reason, it is always in the Romance area. However, upon recommendation of a co worker I gave it a go and found there really is no romance in it. On the contrary, it is about 7 women that have be...more
This book (the whole series, really) falls under the category of "it's so bad, it's good."
It's about a group of women called "The Sisterhood" who have all been wronged by the law after an injustice/crime was perpetrated against them or one of their loved ones. These women decide to take the law into their own hands and exact justice in the way that they see fit, aided by their "sisters."

This group of women, "The Sisterhood," choose to get vengeance for Katherine, who was raped by 3 motorcycle "Weekend Warriors" while her handicapped husband was locked in their semi truck and forced to watch. They determine to use their skills and their leader Myra's huge supply of money to hunt down these men and "cut off their balls." They succeed in doing this, and await news of how these men react. I have read several of the Sisterhood books that come after this first in the series. I do not know if that has tainted my review or not. The Sisterhood series is a great read and I find not reading them in strict order is not an issue. But after reading a few in the series, reading this first one is like reading the last chapter, then reading the rest of the book. You know how this one will come out before you are half-way done with the book. And maybe that is why I gave this book only three st...more

I know these books are much loved and incredibly popular.
I just couldn't take it. It was full of anger and retribution and hate. People are horribly mutilated and we're supposed to be amused and cheer on the mutilators because they're The Good Gals.
Plus...the text is full of errors. One early example: in the prologue a character is introduced as Charles Emery. When he shows up again in chapter 1 his name is Charles Martin, while another character altogether is called Jack Emery. Sloppy.

My mother handed me this series and the premise is delightful. A group of normal, slightly scattered, wronged and angry women gang up against their oppressors. Vigilantes with tea and crumpets. Sometimes the ease with which they take down powerful people is a little far-fetched to me, but then again, I just want to think that it's harder than these sweet people make it seem.

Sisterhood - a vigilante group of several women who decide to take the law into their own hands after the justice system have let them down. A wealthy entrepeneur, a smart and sassy attorney, and a retired special OP are the backbone of this operation. High tech equipment, secret operations and revenge make this story a pleasurable read, however, I would have loved to see more character development and suspense seeing this is the first book in the series.

Weekend Warriors gives new meaning to the term "trash novels". LOL - I love it. Weekend Warriors is the first in a series of books regarding the "sisterhood" formed for the purpose of vindication. (That sounds so much better than revenge). Very fast and easy read -- not a lot of substance and clearly not a lot of morals... however... may be we shouldn't judge the tipping of the justice scales, particularly since the law failed these women? There are 17 books in this series to date. I'll have to...more
The Sisterhood series by Fern Michaels are very entertaining, quick reads. The characters are likeable, unique women who you envision to be your neighbors. The stories move at a nice pace and although you know that justice will prevail at the end, Michaels always throws in a couple of twists and turns in to keep you engaged.

I was burned out from the paranormal and fantasy genres so thought I'd give something else a shot. And even though I don't go in for the whole chick-lit thing, I really enjoyed this book. And as it's the first in a rather long series (20 books so far, not sure if the series is complete), I guess I'll be reading about these ladies (and others) for quite a while.

Summary: As Nikki and her best friend, Barbara, are walking, a car comes out of nowhere and kills Barbara and her unborn child. Unfortunately, the driver, a Chinese diplomat, isn't subject to prosecution. Barbara's mother, the fabulously wealthy Myra Rutledge, who also raised Nikki, goes into a two-year depression, only snapping out of it when she sees television coverage of the mother of another murdered child taking the law into her own hands. Barbara and Myra recruit five female vigilantes, a...more
The first in the series of the Sisterhood; a group of women who come together to make things "right" when working within the legal system did not work for them. I don't condone their actions but root for them just the same. The stories show the inadequacies of our justice system, how criminals go free because of technicalities, and how the strength of women out trumps them all. As the book jacket says this story is a "take no prisoners tale of survival, sweet revenge, and the healing power of fr...more
This was an okay book. It's about a group of women who come together to avenge those who have harmed them in the past. There isn't a whole lot of depth to this book and you really don't get to know the characters all that well. There are 18 other books in this series- I will give the second one a try (already have it from the library) and see if I will want to stick with it or not. I am a sucker for series and many people say they love this series. Maybe it gets better or perhaps she delves into...more
This is the first in a series of books about females that have been wronged in some way and how they form a group and get revenge! This was a quick read and I loved it! I hate to see anyone hurt or mistreated in any way and nothing can be done about it. These women go out and do something about it! They form friendships with other women that have been wronged and help each other out! Loved it and cant wait to get started on the next book in the series!
This really isn't my kind of book, but I finished it. I may be a librarian, but I'm not the kind who will suffer through a mediocre book. The fact that I finished it says it's readable, but even though the author leaves end it with an obvious scream for a sequel, it's unlikely I will seek it out with a fervor, as there are too many other books on my "want to read" list.
By the way, I'd like to know if anyone else who read it was reminded of the movie "Thelma and Louise"?

I don't think I have ever read a Fern Michaels book. She has written a lot of books and they all seem to be highly rated. This is the first book of 'the sisters' series. Thought I would give it a try. My friend Vicki loves this author and has been reading her books exclusively for some time.

I really wanted to give this 2 1/2 stars...it was a quick, intriguing read but the basic concept of vengeance and vigilante kind of justice turned me off. It's pretty far-fetched but, nonetheless, I've already started reading the second book of the series. There is something about it that quickly gets you hooked. Like the Alex Cross series, this one is out of my comfort zone but I guess that's okay on occasion! :)

Recommends it for:
No one
The whole premise of this novel had promise, but the execution of it was gruesome in the extreme. It is one thing to advocate chemical castration of rapists, another to do it themselves. I have no idea who would want to read a book like this; it is neither romance, nor suspense, and definitely not women's fiction. And there are to be more in the series? No thanks. This is not my idea of entertainment.
If you don’t mind a lot of heavy-handedness, some just plain idiotic plot twists, and a decidedly too-easy nasty plan for revenge, you might like this book. The storyline has a lot of promise, but Michaels’ inept way of telling it bogs down the pace. I finished it only because I wanted to see those scumbags get it in the end (no pun intended). I’m not sure if I’ll read the rest in the series.
I stumbled across this series by accident and this one was originally written in 2003, I was intrigued by the "tickler" and got the book. OK I am hooked, I love the premise that the book is related on. Well written and an easy read. I finished this one and its next "one" in two days. Well worth the hunt for them and I plan on reading the whole series. Treat yourself and try it!
