It surprised me that I haven't discovered Fern Michaels before now. I really did enjoy this book and I recommend it, but with some reservations.
The story is multiple viewpoints, set in the time of the Viet Nam war, and I would call it mainstream fiction. Yes ... there's some romance, but it is not the main theme of the story. Casey Adams, part French and part American, has been raised in an orphanage in France, and comes to the US to live in a house her father has left her in his will. She's a...more

This is a good women's book - love, remance, frustration and sorrow.

Casey Adams is a nurse in Vietnam and she's in love with an Army Major, also fighting there. They have plans for a future together, but he hasn't told Casey that he has a wife and daughter because he's in
the process of divorcing his wife. Casey is seriously injured in a bomb explosion and spends two
years recuperating under a false name. The Major is under the impression that she has died and goes on
with his life back in the Stat...more

This is definitely going down as one of my favorites. There is so much to say about this book but I don't even know where to begin or what to say. The ending had my heart literally pounding out of my chest... I couldn't believe it ended the way it did.. it was unsatisfying yet it was realistic. It shows that sometimes life just gets in the way and we need to move on. Highly recommend this book but if you're not into war-like novels (not too technical) then you might not be up for it, as it takes...more

Well this started out great, I thought it was going to be a page turner and interesting story between the 2 main characters. About 1/4 the way in it took a turn, slowed up, added in a few more characters and a few more love interests and totally lost me and the end just took it all down the drain!! the only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because I actually liked the beginning and the foundation for the story.

While I don't typically read romance novels, I caught myself without a book while on vacation at the beach so I went to the library at the resort we were staying at and chose this book because it looked like an interesting story......an easy breezy read. I gave it 2 stars because I really liked the characters and the story line kept me interested enough to get it read in a couple of days, but UGH!!!

At first I did not like this book at all. But by part two I did not want to put this book down! I stayed up till 3 in the morning to finish this book. I had to know if Casey and Mac would see each other again. I cried in about half of this book. The ending was sad but also happy. It was a very good book but a too much like real life.

I pick up books that fall into the romantic or even light reading genres when I need a break or something that can be left behind when I'm traveling. There was a little more substance to this than I anticipated. Some of the initial "twists" in the story were broadcast a mile away; but enjoyable none the less. Set in the Vietnam era which affected a number of the main characters profoundly.

A different context for a story from Fern Michaels. Much of the story occurs during the Vietnam War - at a medical unit and in the jungle. MASH without the humor but with all the people who touch each others lives. Two lonely people fall in love, grow older and find peace.

The story of the love of an Army Nurse and an officer in the army during the Vietnam War, and the events following the war. It was beautiful and hearbreaking at the same time. Thoroughly absorbing. The best book I have read in a long time.

A beautiful story of love and the pain it encompasses. With a vivid description of the war in Vietnam and issues surrounding it, the author weaves a tale of love, heartbreak, hope and resilience of human spirit.

One of Michael's best!
A richly textured plot with truly three-dimensional characters.

SPOILER ALERT.......

Satisfying resolution, but no fairy tale ending.

I loved the story line up until the end, I was bothered by the not so happily ever after. I like fairytales...lol. Sort of reminded me of A Farewell to Arms the 1932 version.

Not my typical type of book, but luckily I didn't realize that until I was already sucked in. Each character is so well developed that you care for them all. Great book.

Awesome book. Takes place during the Vietnam war. Could not put this down...was up late at night reading wanting to get more.

I did like this book but the Viet Nam parts really got to me. I had to finish it. It was a little different for Fern.

Casey is a nurse in Viet Nam. She almost looses who live in an explosion and has major reconstructive surgery.

I can't seem to get into this book, to slow or something. I love all the other books I read from Fern Michaels.

I enjoyed. I feel those who remember the Vietnam war would enjoy this one.

This book is well written and definitely keeps you wanting more. I enjoyed it up until the end. To me endings make the book and this one was just depressing and not in a good way. It was way too much like real life and gave me a feeling of hopelessness. Would not recommend this to anyone.
Jen
I really enjoyed this book, although I was really disappointed with the ending. It is not a feel good book. The events and plot of the story are kind of depressing. All and all it still was a good book and worth reading, but don't expect it to be a feel good book.
Kim
Did not like the way this story ended. It was a good read mostly though and I enjoyed it, just would have preferred it to end on a happier note. It felt like there was something missing.
