It surprised me that I haven't discovered Fern Michaels before now. I really did enjoy this book and I recommend it, but with some reservations.
The story is multiple viewpoints, set in the time of the Viet Nam war, and I would call it mainstream fiction. Yes ... there's some romance, but it is not the main theme of the story. Casey Adams, part French and part American, has been raised in an orphanage in France, and comes to the US to live in a house her father has left her in his will. She's a...more

This is a good women's book - love, remance, frustration and sorrow.
Casey Adams is a nurse in Vietnam and she's in love with an Army Major, also fighting there. They have plans for a future together, but he hasn't told Casey that he has a wife and daughter because he's in
the process of divorcing his wife. Casey is seriously injured in a bomb explosion and spends two
years recuperating under a false name. The Major is under the impression that she has died and goes on
with his life back in the Stat...more

This is definitely going down as one of my favorites. There is so much to say about this book but I don't even know where to begin or what to say. The ending had my heart literally pounding out of my chest... I couldn't believe it ended the way it did.. it was unsatisfying yet it was realistic. It shows that sometimes life just gets in the way and we need to move on. Highly recommend this book but if you're not into war-like novels (not too technical) then you might not be up for it, as it takes...more
Well this started out great, I thought it was going to be a page turner and interesting story between the 2 main characters. About 1/4 the way in it took a turn, slowed up, added in a few more characters and a few more love interests and totally lost me and the end just took it all down the drain!! the only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because I actually liked the beginning and the foundation for the story.
While I don't typically read romance novels, I caught myself without a book while on vacation at the beach so I went to the library at the resort we were staying at and chose this book because it looked like an interesting story......an easy breezy read. I gave it 2 stars because I really liked the characters and the story line kept me interested enough to get it read in a couple of days, but UGH!!!
At first I did not like this book at all. But by part two I did not want to put this book down! I stayed up till 3 in the morning to finish this book. I had to know if Casey and Mac would see each other again. I cried in about half of this book. The ending was sad but also happy. It was a very good book but a too much like real life.
I pick up books that fall into the romantic or even light reading genres when I need a break or something that can be left behind when I'm traveling. There was a little more substance to this than I anticipated. Some of the initial "twists" in the story were broadcast a mile away; but enjoyable none the less. Set in the Vietnam era which affected a number of the main characters profoundly.

Recommends it for:
People who lived through the Vietnam era, people who live in the real world
One of Michael's best!
A richly textured plot with truly three-dimensional characters.
SPOILER ALERT.......
Satisfying resolution, but no fairy tale ending.
