I would categorize Kerrelyn Sparks' latest paranormal in her vampire series, "Secret Life of a Vampire" as one of the sweeter, yet still hot, in this whole series. Her hero is more Gamma than Alpha, her heroine is an ex-beauty queen turned cop, and there's not much blood spilled unless it comes from a glass.
The vampires in this series are divided into two camps; Malcontents who want to rule the world and feed from humans at will, and the good vamps who feed off bottled blood and battle the Malco More...

A Sexier Secret Would've Been Nice
The illegitimate son of Cassonova and ever-so-burdened by his father's legacy, vampire Jack de Venezia is hosting a bachelor party for the soon-to-be-wed Ian and Toni (All I Want for Christmas Is a Vampire) at an exclusive hotel. As it turns out, vamps can't hold their blood fusion drinks and the party gets raucous enough that hotel security calls the cops. Unfortunately for Jack one of the cops that arrives on scene is Lara Boucher, former beauty queen, former More...

At first I was a little unhappy with the fact that this book was about Jack. Up until now he has been in less then 10 pages spread across multiple books. We didn't really know much about him and other vampires had peeked my interest more. But I was pleseantly surprised about how much I enjoyed this story. I didn't finish with the "This is the greatest book ever" feeling but I really enjoyed it. I mean by the third page I was laughing so hard and loud a few people checked on me to make sure I was More...

Well, I could just copy and paste my review from the last book in this series, but hey, I'll just do a new one that says the same thing. Heh! Not as long, of course.
SO - this followed the formula. And the reason people follow formulas is because they work. This was just as fun and silly and lighthearted as the other books in the series, and I enjoyed my mind candy very much, thank you ^_^
Some of the dialogue had me spluttering. Like, "Oh, My Lord Hades, you're so BIG, be careful with that thing, More...

This is a fun series to read, I think mostly because the vampires are always trying to convince people that they are not bad. That along with all the other quirky things just make me smile, especially all the flavored bloods (Bleer, Bliskey, too funny!!)
This book like the others has a problem come up where the main couple meet and end up having to fix the problem. Fairly predictable, but the fun is in how they go about doing that, along with all the interaction from all the other charcters and t More...

Secret life of a vampire? Hmm, I don’t think this title
fits this book. Don’t get me wrong this is a great book
but Ms. Sparks never gives her Love at stake books the
right titles. Back to the “this is a great book”.
Nope not a great book but I meant an amazing book.
So far this is the best “Love at stake” book, in my opinion.
I enjoyed every single page of this book. I wasn’t annoyed
or irritated while reading this book, and I have to say a
lot of the “Love at stake” books pissed me off. But sti More...

I am so happy 'cuz I've picked this books up again. They are swiftly reaching my "I love you books, I never want us to be parted ever again" folder :D If I think about it they, like all my favorites, are so easy to read; the books that I struggle with end up in the 2 and 3 star category...

I liked this and found it pretty funny, which is what I want from the Love At Stake series. The two characters seem to have pretty good chemistry and the story moves with out having those, "that is so far fetched, or you see it coming, what a stupid thing to do" moments that many of these book seem to have.
Having said that, the repetitiveness of thought is eye rolling and boring at points. How long it takes her to come to terms emotionally was dragging.(view spoiler) More...

This is the only book I've read from Kerrelyn Spark's Love at Stake Series. It probably wasn't the best idea to start in the middle, but it was all I could get my hands on at my library.
I liked this book a great deal. The plot was fresher than what most vampire books have been featuring. The head of security at a synthetic-blood manufacturing company run by vampires falling for a nosy and unforgettable cop is an intriguing storyline in and of itself. However Sparks adds in murder, mind control, More...

Another delightful humourous vampire book by Kerrelyn Sparks. Poor Jack, son of the Casanova, who doesn't want to be like his father. And he is having trouble mind controlling Lara the police officer he meets and can't get off his mind. How will he deal with her when he can't erase her suspicion of him?
Love these vampires, blending into modern society, living off synthetic blood so they are not biting anyone (though I don't think I would mind being bitten). And the occasional Scottish vampire. I More...

Mmmm M Mmmm.. Jack the son of Casanova. Lol. He is definitely not like his father but he did seduce his one and only. Alot of strange things had happened in this book. The Malcontents are getting worse and worse. And now that Casmiri right?. is back in town, it seems the war is going to happen soon, I hope no one dies. It was great meeting the were-wolves and Phil, Damn that man is full of secrets. If he have book, i cant wait to unravel his secrets one by one, And he is Alfa?. wow. That was une More...

I read the first book in this series, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, years ago and vaguely remember liking it. Being in a bit of a book slump, I decided to randomly pick this one up from my used bookstore. Unfortunately, I couldn't even make it all the way through the story. I made it over half-way, but the story just was not holding my attention.

This definitely wasn't my favorite of the series. It was okay, but I just didn't connect as much with Lara as I did with some of the other female characters. For one thing, she's so quick to accept all of Jack's powers and even the possibility that he could be an alien, but then she's completely distraught to find out he's a vampire? That makes no sense. And then Jack makes nonstop sexual innuendos, but he acts like he's all shy and inexperienced with women too. That didn't make sense either. An More...

Giacomo "Jack" di Venezia is the only son of the famous Casanova - much to his annoyance. He doesn't consider himself a lady's man and doesn't want to be one. Now an investigator for MacKay Security and Investigations (that would be vampire security and investigations), he's tried to follow his heart in the past and only been burned.

This is book 6 in Sparks Love at Stake series. As I have read the other stories in this series (and enjoyed them), I couldn't resist reading this one! The story is about Jack, the bastard son of the infamous Casanova, and the girl he loves, but can't have due to his "secret". I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and its characters. After reading numerous books in the BlackDagger Brotherhood series, this was a nice change. I found it to be a fun, easy read. Although I knew what to expect, what really More...

Although this book didn't appeal to me at the beginning, it was still a good read and a good addition to the series.
I liked how Jack and Lara met and it was nice to hear that those dolls were still floating about somewhere.
I also liked that the typical vampire bachelor party went to pot when they couldn't make Lara forget what she saw. It made the story much more enjoyable knowing that they were suspicious of each other.

“Jack is a vampire throwing a bachelor party for his friend Ian. The party gets out of hand and the police are called. That’s when officer Lara Boucher and her partner show up to arrest the lot of them. The vampires simply do a little mind control and persuade the officers to forget what they’ve seen and just leave, but surprise Lara can not be mind controlled and that is where the romance begins between Jack and Lara. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that Lara was such a lame polic More...

I've been wanting to read Kerrelyn Sparks' books for a while now. So when I saw this book on the shelf at Target a couple of days ago I just had to pick it up. I know I start the series in the middle but I don't think I could have picked up a better book to start. First off the Heroine has an AWESOME name. Then the vamp is Italian...which is just delicious. Then Ms. Sparks makes it complete perfection by transporting the characters to Venice...my favorite city in the world! The story is fun, fas More...

Whew! There is a big difference between this series and the one I read right before it by JR Ward. This one feels like tea time at Disneyland compared to "Covet."
So anyway, once I got used to the different style, this one's ok. There are some cheesy aspects to it, but I thought Jack was a good guy. Lara kinda bugged me a little, being so stubborn and all.
I have to admit that I cringe a little every time they mention the stupid blood drinks - Bleer, Bliskey, etc. How do they keep a straight fac More...

Jack is throwing a bachelor party where men are drinking Blissky and literally can party all night long. Jack is the illegitimate son of Casanova and when the party gets out of hand Officer Lara Boucher shows up. Lara knows there is something more than a bachelor party going and she wants to find out what Jack is hiding.
Jack and Lara were an interesting couple to read about. I liked reading about a character from Louisiana. Lara is fun and her friend LaToya is hilarous. Jack and Lara are a real More...

Jack di Venezia meets officer Lara Boucher when she and her partner come to investigate complaints against the bachelor party he was throwing.
Surprisingly to Jack, he can't get inside her head to make her forget responding to the call and now she's suspicious of him due to the state the room is in.
When Lara checks back with the hotel, there is no record of Jack ever being there. Determined to track him down, she does so at Ian's wedding. Through flirtatious monologue, he avoids answering any o More...

Who couldn't love the son of Casanova..a bit shy and under confident, handsome and old fashioned...Giacomo de Venezia or Giacomo Casanova or Jack what ever you want to call him..you have to say he is the perfect PNR hero. Romantic, sensitive but all man. Lara is a strong heroine who has survived and come out a better person. Together they create magic in this PNR, murder mystery.

Klappentext:

Still yet another good story. I think I am liking where this went. Never expected this Apollo thing. This was a FAST read because I jumped the boring drawn out nothing parts...
I was not too keen on this girl Lara. She's an idiot. She's a whimp. Supposedly tough, but just not a bad girl tough cop like she should be. Just an annoying curly haired red head who nags Jack for answers and figures out she's in love with him when she's in trouble. It's almost like this story was walking up a steep hill More...

Giacomo di Venezia, or Jack to his friends, is a two hundred year old vampire who's throwing a bachelor party for Ian at the Plaza. What he hadn't considered was the fact that a bunch of vampires drunk on Blissky would make a mess of the hotel suite, leaving blood stains all over the place. Even the police was called after the noisy event. Not a problem for Jack who can control minds easily, so you can imagine his surprise when the cops arrive and Officer Boucher is the most beautiful woman he's More...

I am very disappointed in myself. I finished this book a couple of weeks ago and totally forgot about the review part. Oh well, I am here now. So...let's just jump in. I started reading this book directly after the last couple of books that came before it in the series and I had to put this one down for awhile because I was starting to get rubbed wrong by the books...they felt similar, which it should be, but I needed a break. I took one and then I started this book over. I was pleasantly surpri More...

I think this series is getting better, even though the plot and theme still same like before.

This is the story of Jack (Casanova) and Lara. So this one was not about the action and the bad Vamps called The True Ones. In fact they weren't in here at all. Also the Stake Out team was M.I.A. in this one. Which is why it was small on the action side. Overall this book was just too funny. There were so many time that I was just cracking up.
