A collection of finely written love letters from some of the world's most well known men - Henry VIII, Cromwell, George Washington, Mozart, Napoleon, Beethoven, Liszt, Jack London, Mark Twain, Kafka, and George Bernard Shaw being but a few of them. I enjoyed the ones which were written by men to their wives (Washington, Sir Walter Raleigh, Cromwell, Mozart, etc.) but found it quite disturbing how many of them were written by men to women who were already married (Beethoven, Lord Byron, Liszt, Fl...more

This work includes letters from Washington, Goethe, Twain, and others. I love reading personal material of people who write fiction or NF. It shows a whole other side to them and either makes me go, 'I was right, they were fabulous' or 'OMG, what a jerk'! (like Cromwell's letter).

My favorite part (apart for Twain's letter to Livy, where he apologized for the sappy drivel he'd written above, but he'd promised her never to throw away and not send a letter he'd written her), was how after each let...more

Throughout history, words of love have been invoked by the finest of our men. Words drawn from the core of their soul, and shared with the women they loved most deeply. This book has many such letters, including all of the love letters from the Sex and the City movie, and so much more.

I liked to read through what the great men that we all know of wrote to those they loved. I would have like more letters from each person but it was interesting to read.

The collection is wonderful. It's odd to me that the bios follow the letters. There are some errors, as well.

This was pretty impressive. Who knew these guys had it in them?

Saw this book appear on Sex and the City and it made me want to read it right then and there. :)

I found some beautiful excerpts and a pair of complete letters I loved. Some of them were clearly just fillers. I really liked the explanation after each letter, very concise and clear. I love this book anyway, it was a lovely present. ❤

If only men still wrote like this to the women that they love. It's so intriguing because many of the people who were included in this were known for their "manliness" but when it came to women they were soft. Also, while they wrote these fantastic letters many were to mistresses or if they were to their wives it was later stated that they had a mistress. Does this prove that you can love more than one person?

Okay, I know they used this in Sex and the City film, but there's nothing hotter than having your guy read one of these to you, and me reading one (or two, or a few!) to him!

I embrace you, I kiss you, I feel wild.... Gustove Flaubert to Louise Colet
To me amusement seems impermanent, and business intrusion, while you alone engross every faculty of my mind....... Robert Browinng to Jean Amour.
OH BOY.. can't wait to read it

Though this book was created specifically for to the Sex In The City Movie, I really enjoyed the works included. There were some moving passages and letters. Some of the pieces may even be included in our wedding ceremony.

A collection of love letters from famous people of all walks of life including Napoleon, Mozart, various monarchs, and other well-known old white men. Interesting, if nothing else.
