I can really go either way with this novel. I had read some great reviews and the story just did not live up to them (in my opinion). I hate to be the one to say that I disliked this book, a lot.

Allie was a good main character, but it took me awhile before I started to really like her. In fact, in the end, I'm still not sure if I did like her as a character. Her mother, on the hand, I despised. This is what I wanted to say to her: Get off your *&$@ing @#$ and get a job (use your imag More...

This story is about a girl (Alfrieda aka Allie) who lives with her rather useless mom in a small camper trailer on her uncle’s property. She gets electrocuted and knocked into a bull pasture in time for the bull to charge at her. But unexpectedly she thinks about the bull backing away and it happens. From there her world gets weirder and weirder when she gets a moonstone necklace from her friend Kizzy and things begin to get even crazier. Kizzy gets beat up and on her way there an unexpected fri More...

I got a copy of this book through NetGalley(dot)com. This was a book I had had on my "to read" list for a while. It was an okay book, a quick read and the characters were likable but not incredibly original. There are two more books in this series so far Moon Rise and Moon Spun

Allie lives with her chronically sick mother in a trailer on her uncle's property. Her life isn't great, but it could be worse. Then she gets zapped by a power-line and starts being able to move th More...

Moonstone by Marilee Brothers is about Allie Emerson who lives in a trailer with her “sick” mother, goes to high school with bullies, and has only a couple of friends. Oh, and did I mention she has telekinetic powers? She can move things with her mind and read other people’s thoughts! When Allie’s “spirit guide”, Trilby, shows up, she knows something strange is going on. Her friend Kizzy gives Allie a necklace called the Moonstone, and starts talking about weird prophecies and things that make n More...

As a long time fan of YA fiction, I'm always ready to discover something new regardless of genre. I'll admit though that at heart I'll always be a fantasy & urban fantasy type of girl- there's just something about having a "Sweep" type series that just captures the audience's wish fulfillment needs.

Allie's never really known "the good life". The only life she's known has been one where she's lived in a trailer behind her uncle Sid's house with her mother, a woman More...

Soooo, not quite sure how I felt about this one. I did like Allie. She felt real. I liked her attitude for the most part. She was young, 14 going on 15, so you wouldn’t expect her to make the decisions the way she did. Even in times of stress or when doing something one way clearly benefited her, she thought through everything and made the best decisions based on everyone involved. I’d be totally lying through my teeth if I said I did that all the time. Straight through ‘em! But Allie was cool. More...

At 15, Allie Emerson has her fair share of problems, like any average high school freshman. Bullies, misfit friends, embarassing living situation... and a guardian spirit guide? After an accident involving electrical currents from a TV antenna, a ladder, and flatulent bull, Allie is unexpectedly magically inclined. With help from Trilby, her straight-from-the-60's spirit guide, Kizzy, the eccentric and loaded town witch, Junior, the unexpected love interest, and a very pretty necklace, Allie More...

I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either. The main character is generally likeable, although her mother- faking an illness and all- annoyed me a lot. So did Trilby- I didn't see what the point of having her in the story was? She basically told Allie nothing that she didn't know already, and never really gave a straight answer...I think this was to add suspense or mystery but it just didn't work. The story was sort of slow at the beginning, and even then, the plot line didn't improve More...

Fifteen-year-old Alfrieda Emerson already had enough to deal with before finding out she has freaky psychic powers.

Crammed into a one bedroom trailer with her mother on her half-uncle's property, Allie's life has been pretty miserable since her mom decided (thanks to Oprah) that she has fibromyalgia and can't work anymore. Every Thursday, her mother's lawyer, "Big Ed," comes to spend the night, and Allie has to es More...

With so many paranormal young adult books out right now it's hard for each one to be different or stand out. Marilee Brothers succeeds in creating a fun original heroine in Allie. Allie is smart, sassy, she stand up to bullies and fights for her mom. I really liked the setting that Marilee plopped Allie down in-it's refreshing to see a character that isn't immediatly popular, rich, and has everything work out perfectly.

What to say about Moonstone by Marilee Brothers? This is a tough one to review because its hard to pinpoint just what I didn't like about it. Perhaps its the plot that only seemed to build and then never fully delivered? Or maybe it was the characters. Most seemed to be just there, some held no real purpose and others just made you go huh? Allie, the main character was likeable enough but I also found her to be a bit annoying. She'd go from leaps of intellect and "ah-ha!" moments to mo More...

Thanks to Net Galley I was able to receive a copy of this book. I appreciated the opportunity to sample and see if I liked it. I found I did enjoy it and I am looking forward to reading more of the series. The book really started off rather slow for me but I am glad that I stuck with it as it did pick up.

I thought Allie was a very spunky heroine. Did not think much of her mother Faye. I found her a bit of a burden for such a young girl to have to carry. I also enjoyed the chara More...

Meh. Allie lives in a trailer behind her uncle's house, that she shares with her alcoholic mother. She is barely able to keep things together when she begins to acquire troubling powers. A local neighborhood woman, who is both a Roma and also Allie's dearest friend gives Allie a special moonstone pendant that can give her the ability to hear thoughts. Soon Allie finds herself in danger from evil people who are after the stone, and will take it by any means necessary.

Allie is a typical teenage girl whose life is about to change in a way she could never have expected. She lives with her mother, Faye, who has lost her zest for life, remaining somewhat isolated to their home, praying for disability to approve her case. The trials and tribulations young Allie faces are troublesome and at times will pull on the heart strings. This amazingly strong heroine stands tall and faces head on all that the magical community throws at her. There's enough drama going on thr More...

I kinda expected something different for this book, however, I was not too disappointed.

What I liked about this book was the supernatural stuff, the mystery and the anticipation. There were times in the book where I felt like oh, this person must be the bad guy, however, I was often sorely mistaken.

I loved the hippy-dippy guardian angel. She made me laugh. A lot. I loved the idea of having a guardian angel who not only gave me answers but was funny. Though there were no More...

Moonstone may be written for a YA audience but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read this book in about 4 hours because I wanted to know what was going to happen to Allie. The character development was very good. You were drawn into their lives and cared about them. I can't wait to read the next one and find out what is going to happen to Allie and the rest of the characters. I did run across a few missed words and I noticed that at one point Mike Purdy's business was referred to as Mike's Magic C More...

Moonstone is a humorous story about the challenges facing 15 year old Allie (Alfrieda). She lives in a portable trailer with a mother who has resigned from life and an aunt who wants them off her property. Furthermore, she is relegated to wearing second hand clothing and is a outcast at school. If life isn't tough enough, Allie has just been given a "moonstone" necklace and told that she is destined to fulfill an ancient prophesy. She finally meets her unkown father and the school More...

This was okay....the story line was good, but some things bothered me. The whole mom "faking" fibromylagia really bugs me...as being someone with an auto-immune disease we get the whole faking thing a lot. They are real, serious diseases and yes, I know that some do fake it, but it isn't to be taken lightly.

The other thing was the editing in this book was HORRENDOUS! There were errors everywhere, even in the character's names! That is just a bit much for a book that h More...

This was another of my Kindle freebies and I am glad I got it. The author has a great sense of humor and captures the teenage voice masterfully. I found myself laughing out loud many times and although the plot is a bit far fetched and the physical comedy at times too three-stooges-like, I finished the book in one sitting. If you are a fan of Stephanie Plum and love YA, this is the perfect blend of quirky characters, rough-around-the-edges heroine, and sardonic humor; minus the never ending love More...

I would say this book originally came out before the young adult genre exploded like it has today. So, I'm not sure how much recognition the author will get for what she has created. Because, in all reality, there are better books out there (and obviously some that are worse).

I think the author tied to hard to make readers identify with Allie. She's seems more like the girl from the wrong side of the tracks instead of a likable heroine. Her mother, aunt and uncle, and even her co More...

At first I couldn't really get into it, but pretty soon I couldn't put the book down, I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. There were a lot of sub-plots as well that really kept the book interesting. I was wondering how all the points would work out in the end, but they did. Moonstone definitel More...

Allie Emerson sometimes wishes she could change the life she has. She lives with her rather lazy mother in a dumpy trailer with their only income being the monthly welfare check. She’s constantly picked on by bullies, has never met her father, and is sure her aunt wants her gone. But there are some things to look forward to, namely weekend visits to her eccentric but lovable neighbor Kizzy and hanging out with her good friends Mercedes and Manny. But then strange things start happening to Allie, More...

I can't honestly say I was blown away by this book. It wasn't bad. It was light and fun and kept me occupied for a few hours. It was somewhat predictible and formulaic, but it didn't bother me too much. The main character was likeable, although I personally found her mother to be my favorite character. Based on the ending this was a little unclear as to whether it was going to initiate a series or not. I guess I wasn't intrigued enough to check on that.
