I get tired of the "Leave it to Beaver" perception of the 50s. While the media presented this decade in the US as Utopian and idyllic; under the surface things were much more...well...dystopian. The Korean war was raging as we stepped into the 50's. Nuclear tests lit up the Las Vegas sky on a regular basis as we tripped hard into the cold war. Gunmen fired upon our countries leaders. Soviet spies were everywhere...or so we were led to think. Racism was rampant - segregation was desired by whites ...more
