I have such a love/hate relationship with Sandra Boynton. Some of her books, like Doggies or Moo Baa La La La are great, but for every one of her books I love, there's one like Pajama Time that I hate. This is the book version of a song she wrote. I've never heard the song, but I have to assume it's better with music then it is in text. Moira seems to like it best after the ugliest pajamas ever make an appearance, but sadly they don't show up for the big dance party scenes. The warthog must be to...more

Another too-cute-for-words Boynton board book that you'll have as much fun reading to the kid as the kid will hearing it and looking at Boynton's fantastic illustrations. Lots of opportunities for coming up with different rhythms, fun voices, even setting it to music if you're so inclined. Can't say it does all that much for getting either of us ready for bed, but so what? Read it after dinner instead. Jamma-jamma-jamma-jamma-P-J! ****

I liked the parts of this book that described the different types of pajamas. Those were cute and funny and taught about opposites. But, I didn't care for the parts of the story that were more like a song. In fact, I had a hard time reading it. Something about the wording or rhythm. Seemed like a great bed time book, especailly as a way to get reluctant kids into going to bed by making them excited about their pjs and a story.
I don't know why but Sandra Boynton's books always take me more than one read before I like them, but inevitably I like them. And I have had plenty of chances to get to like this one because since we arrived at Grandma and Grandpa's house (where the book is), my 19-month-old has requested it several times a day. I think my favorite Boynton books (and his) are the sing-songy books like this one and Snuggle Puppy.
This is a book that I used to read to my son a great deal when he was much younger, but this evening he elected to pull it out and read it to me.
It's easy, fun, silly, and takes no time at all. Not Sandra Boynton's best work, but still an entertaining addition to the library.

Boynton (2000) talks about the different types of pajamas you can sleep in. They come in all different colors, patterns, are soft and fuzzy and might even be the ugliest you have ever seen. I can use this in my classroom to teach them that before bedtime you need to change into your pajamas to get ready for bed even if you are wearing your favorite outfit.
Sandra Boynton has some really cute books, and this one is no exception. The cadence might be a little jazzy for getting your child sleepy, but it does help to be shushed at the end and the fact that "Good night, sleep tight" is the last line really sends the signal home that yes, it's indeed bedtime. Fun to read, and fun to listen to!
We love Sandra Boynton books. Her subtle humor and rhythm make this book interesting enough for the adult doing the reading as well as keeping my 2 year-old's attention. And it offers a nice sing-song option to sing to the kids as they go upstairs to get ready for bed. "It's pajama time! Hush! Hush! It's pajama time!"
This book goes through the different things you do to get ready for bed. I think it is good for toddlers because they are just starting to get into a bedtime routine and putting on their own pajamas. The story has a beat to it and so it can be sung or put to music. It is a fun bedtime story with cute pictures.
Although im older I personally really enjoyed reading this fun picture book. I think it can get your children up and moving around. Many times in a classroom setting, children tend to get restless and this is a great book to get some energy out before you may start a lesson they might not necessarily enjoy.
