Theresa and her best friend have opened their own PR business, she is working hard to put the past behind her and get on with her life. Michael is best friends with Theresas best friends’ husband and he has wanted Theresa for a really long time. Theresa wrote him off the first night they met, when he forgot to put his teeth in. Theresa was assaulted by one of his teammates and now she has a firm no athletes rule. Michael hires Theresa to promote his families restaurant and hopefully to spend som More...

The reason why I generally avoid books that are tagged as “romance” is mainly due to the fact that I often find them plain and boring. I am aware that a romance will guarantee steamy sex scenes and a truly happy ending with closure (usually there would be a proper wedding) and I have nothing against those two elements (well maybe those marriage proposals bother me a bit) but sometimes I have a feeling that romance writers are simply following a manual and this means poor dialogues ad entertainme More...

I LOVED this story! And seriously - Theresa is out of her mind not to go for Michael! I had a crush on him after just a few chapters! Although not heavy in the actual 'smut' factor (actually, there really wasn't any smut at all!), I thoroughly enjoyed the romance/relationship aspect of this book, just like the first in the series - Body Check. Martin creates really colorful characters who you quickly come to care about...so much so that I almost find myself disappointed to read the last page in More...

It's a light read. I was really disappointed after the 1st book. I just expected a Theresa who's not as scared as a rabbit. If you compare Janna and Theresa and the way they handle situations, the 2nd book is a complete disaster compared to the 1st one. I don't think it even earned the full 1 star rating.
I just love Michael!! He's every girl's dream guy. But does Theresa see that? She pushes him away time after time and hooks up with a total schmuck instead. I hated her character so much I felt More...

This book was a lot better than the previous. The reading was easy and fun. I liked the storyline and the characters. I enjoyed the romance. Although I didn't really fancy the chase and conflict but it was good. At least, it spiced up the story.
I liked Theresa and Michael were flirting and teasing each other. They made me laughed a lot. They were so great being together I was angry with her when throughout the story, she was in denial because she was afraid of fond and intimacy. Even though she More...

This is the second book in her New York Blades series. Of the books I’ve read–and I’ve read them all out of order–this was my absolute favorite. This might actually be my favorite book of 2010. Martin has an amazing ability to create characters that are funny, real, but really go through some tough stuff before the end of the book. This one was no exception.

I wasn’t a very big fan of the first book in this series, Body Check. I found it to be rather slow and meh. But I decided to give the series another try and I picked up Fair Play. I am so happy I did this, finding it quiet enjoyable.
I think the biggest pro for me was the fact that the book seemed to continue on from the last book, only in the sense that it didn’t do a lot of rehashing and reminding. I really hate the feeling you get that you are reading the first book for a second time instead o More...

I liked this book. It follows on from 'Body Check' with Theresa Falconetti (best friend of Janna MacNeil in 'Body Check') as she battles the emotional fallout of her attempted rape in the first book. She has all sorts of issues with men, and hockey players in particular. Naturally, the one guy that is convinced she is 'The One' is hockey player Michael Dante. Now, this guy had me won over from the start. All round nice guy and hottie, he has decided Theresa is 'The One' and pursues her relentles More...

Wow! Michael Dante is yummy in Fair Play even if he is missing some teeth! Michael Dante Aka Mikey D is an older hockey player from the Blades who is a romantic at heart. Two years ago he met Theresa Falcontti, an Italian publicist whom he became absolute smitten with. However, Theresa did not reciprocate her feeling with Mikey and chose to ignore him. Theresa ended up going out with another member if the Blades and when her date becomes a potential rape, Theresa is scarred. She swears she will More...

I loved this book!!! It's totally not your middle-of-the-road romance novel although it does possess some of the cheesiness that is common for this genre.
Most importantly, there's character development! We get to know them and like them and then there's actually something to root for when it comes time for them to get together. Theresa, the lead female, is multi-dimensional and has a real career (not just a temp job, which is what happens in most romance novels). She also has real-life family a More...

Life keeps getting in the way of my reading, but I finally managed to finish this one.
To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed in Theresa. She was a kick-ass character in the first book, but after what happened with the Russian, she's been all over the map in this one. At times I had no idea why Michael would want her at all.
Michael's character was basically carrying the whole story. I only kept on reading for him. I wouldn't have batted an eye if the author had given the role of leading More...

Nothing like a romance to take my mind off work. Things have been a bit stressful and I needed something mindless. Deidre Martin wrote the perfect book for my mood. I amnot implying that this book is mindless or trash. I know that Martin worked hard to write a good book and she succeeded. There are just times I need a romance to help me defuse. And this did just what I needed. Thanks Ms Martin.

I absolutely hated this book! Theresa pissed me off to a BRAND NEW level! she gets assaulted by a Russian which swears her off of Italian men? then she starts dating Reese a skeeze bag whose clearly with her for the buyout? i mean how much of a hypocrite is she to not see how much Michael loves her? ABSOLUTELY STUPID! To quote Michael she is "BAT SHIT CRAZY!!!"

Great womens comedy/drama book. If you have had a bad day at work and want sometime to cool down. This is the right book for you, and if you like comedy movies/books. This would make a great comedy movie.
The two main chartors are comeplit oppasits and the way the guy tries over and over to get her is just part of the comedy.

This one annoyed me. I got so tired of Theresa and her indecisions. It's just obvious that the Harvard Law school grad is a jerk and the sports star is the sweetie. We saw it, her friends saw it, but Theresa refused to see it. It drove me crazy that it took so long for her to see what everyone else did.

I really loved this book and HATED to see it end. Theresa Falconetti is a great heroine. Totally lovable in every way. Michael Dante, well, man + hockey, doesn't get any better. Hot guy, great personality, and crazy for Theresa. I soo wanted to smack the schmuck who was playing her. A truly great read.

I loved this book! Coming from a European family, I could totally relate to the main character's families and all the Italian "problems" they had with their families (basically just meddling families). This book managed to balance the serious issues the main character, Theresa, had to deal with with humour. A great romance read.

Probably my least favorite of the 4 I read....Theresa, I know she dealt with a horrible event but I just felt like she didn't really try to move past it for so long. I had a hard time relating to her and sometimes the story as well. I did like Michael and I felt like he was a redeeming factor....

I loved this book, I thought it was funny, adorable and hot.
The chemistry was a amzaing, I loved that the hero kept chasing the heroine.
It kept me reading and I really enjoyed it, hope the rest of the books in this series are that good!

Theresa Falconetti was Italian but did not want to date Italian men. It was somewhat hard to like her even though I knew she had issues that would eventually be resolved. We say we want something and when we get it we are not ready for it.

I think I liked this better than the first one to be honest. I was continuously laughing through out and repeatedly had to go to Google translate to find out what they were saying. You should definitely read this book

I enjoyed this book and got so involved in the characters that I wanted to grab Terri and shake her to wake her up to reality. I wish I'd known that Body Check was the first in the series before I started this one, but I'll go back and read it now.

It's been awhile since I teared up while crying, and this book did. I didn't really like the storyline with Reese/Fleece and it annoyed me that Theresa was so blind and focused on money, but I'm glad she finally saw the light... eeer Michael :)

I loved this book! Theresa made me frustrated at times with her attitude towards Michael and who she thinks should be her ideal man! Michael is such a sweetheart and has the determination to get the girl of his dreams!! Love how Theresa finally sees what and who is most important in life!

2 stars.
Not as good as Body Check.
Michael was so sweet and didn't deserve to be jerked around but unfortunately Theresa did jerk him around. She definitely had some major issues though so I could understand why she behaved that way but it still didn't make it right. Especially considering the fact that it was still going on up until a good 3/4 of the way through the book. That's not romance, it's disgruntled chick-lit.
The saving graces were Michael, the Italian family scenes, Janna giving Theres More...

I had a really hard time with this book. Theresa came off as whiney, needy, and a snob about her roots and family. I didn't like her. At all. My least favorite Deirdre Martin book by far.

its a good story but not all happy happy...
the heroine has some real issues...
the hero is a gem of a man...
for a sports romance it has a surprising depth to it .. not all silly hockey jocks and bimbos hovering around if you know what i mean ;)
a decent read-3.5-!

A follow-up story to her first hockey novel—hero is a native New York City hockey player who wants to get involved with a woman from the old neighborhood—though neither realized they grew up so close. She has a trauma from the past to deal with, but her reasons for wanting to avoid this man don’t seem to have anything to do with that. She doesn’t want to live the life her parents had, she doesn’t want to date an Italian-American, she wants to be a Manhattan WASP. So she blows hot and cold with t More...
