The Blackbird sisters are back in fifth installment, this time Nora and her little sister Emma stumble on the body of Zell Orcutt the outcast of the wealthy Fitch family. Nora has own with two men vying for her affections, her house literally crumbling on her, and she just may be losing her job as the most talked about society columnist.

With the evidence piling up against her friend Delilah (who is innocent), wants a girl to do? Investigate of course!

This is my first Blackbird sisters mystery,...more

I thought I had read all the delightful Blackbird Sisters mysteries but somehow I missed this one. Big mistake! This one is essential to the series and is possibly the best. The whole series is worth reading--in order--if you like great characters (including a wacky sister), really amusing lines, romance with a true bad boy and murder without undue gore. Martin is easily good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Evanovich but their heroines inhabit different worlds. Stephanie hails from...more

The fifth installment in the Blackbird sisters mysteries.

Zell Orcutt, a dirty old man on the edges of the Philadelphia society circles, is found dead with an arrow shot through his heart. Zell is the current owner of "Fitch's Fancy," an old Main Line manor house. Nora happens to arrive at his manor house just as the body is found. Of course, the entire Fitch clan are all archery champions.

Nora is pregnant and refuses to name the father until she is ready. Is it Michael Abruzzo?

A Blackbird sisters mystery. Nora, Libby and Emma are three sisters whose Philadelphia blue blood family has endured some hard time. A little mystery, Nora's delicate condition, racy establishments (you would think Cupcakes would be a great name for a bakery, but think more along the line of Hooters), and quirky characters make this who done it a fun quick read. Nora's like a modern day Nancy Drew, but much of the book centers on her romance with Nick and Richard. This edition had a bonus sectio...more

Please allow me to apologize in advance. It is possible that I was just in a mood when I sat down with this one. Or maybe I just didn't have enough background on the characters (I haven't read 1-4 of the series). But I simply could not get past chapter 2 of this snippy, catty, flat out 6itch-fest. My first encounter with these sisters made me dislike them so much I thought to myself, "the only way this book could get better is if they all get hit by a bus in the next chapter." When that didn't h...more

For the first 100 pages or so, all the Blackbird sisters did was bicker. Boy did that get on my nerves. I actually gave up reading and went to bed hoping that the next time I picked it up, it wouldn't get on my last nerve. No such luck! The only good thing I got from this book was a "Z" male for a challenge. This is definitely not a series I would continue reading.

Society columnist Nora Blackbird is nosy and literally gets her nose into things that don't really concern her, like murder of Zell O...more

Even if you liked the first couple of books of this series (which I did in a guilty sort of way)... this book was hard to swallow. It didn't seem to go with the other books, I found the main characters to behave in a way that was inconsistent with their previous behavior... it seemed basically ridiculous (as in more ridiculous than the rest of the books.

If this had been the first book in the series, I would not have read another book written by this author, ever.

This is the 1st book in the series I read. I knew I was coming in at the middle but didn't realize how lost I would be. Tried to read this book a few times and kept putting it down since it wasn't making much sense. Finally got over the hurdle and finished. It was fairly enjoyable since I am a Bucks County native. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another book by the author. If I found another of her books on clearance, I would buy it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't realize that I was starting at number five in a series, but it never made the book less enjoyable. The sisters are crazy for sure, but we all know people who are, and that was part of the fun.

I love this series - the Blackbird Sisters are wonderful and they make me laugh, instead of think. Depiction of Richard is pretty good, but I do like Michael better. A couple of places were a little predictable, but overall a fun read

I really liked this book. Its a great mystery read and I like the sisters and how they stick together. I will probably read more from this author.

I don't like heavy scary mysteries - this series are just right for me -light - funny - romance - and a murder to solve. Love them!

The scene where Libby gets herself stuck in the doggie door is worth the price of the book. Seriously.

I have read all of the Blackbird books and love them. With Nora, you never know what will happen next!
Anna
Definitely more sexual tension than mystery, but I found it to be an easy enjoyable read.

Couldn't make it past 2 chapters. I felt lost with the storyline and couldn't like any of the characters.

The sexual tension is ratcheted up this novel which is good because the mystery was not that involving. Rawlings continues to be a compelling character, but for the first time I found some of the secondary characters not as well drawn. I still enjoyed the book, but either I had to work a little harder to get through it when it was focusing on the “mystery portion.” However the torn-between-two-lovers aspect had me riveted. I really felt Martin shifted from mystery to romance this book.

I created a brand new shelf for this book. I found the main character completely unlikeable. While pregnant with one man's child (she doesn't even like the guy, so why she'd have unprotected sex with him is beyond me), she has more unprotected sex with an ex-boyfriend in a phone booth, then after they're finished, he just hands her off to the baby-daddy.
The dialogue was awful, and while the murder plot may have drawn me in, I just couldn't take the main characters and their whining.

5th blackbird sis ser, good continuation!

Fast easy read. Just what you need sometime. And I like the interaction of the sisters.
