This book was fantastic, I wish I could have taken time to read it through a second time and do the study portion at the end. I learned so much about keeping the right focus and balance in my life.

This book was aloe vera to an overwhelmed spirit; I've rarely been so perfectly "in tune" and needing exactly what a book delivered at that moment as this book now. I've struggled with this story, struggled with the reality of trying to live a spiritual life, at a slow and savoring pace, and still getting done all the "stuff" that perpetually needs doing.

Lines that I loved from this book:
Have you ever tried to do it all? I have, I do, and I probably always will. It’s not only in my nature; it’s also in my job description – and yours, too. Being a woman requires more stamina, more creativity, and more wisdom than I ever dreamed as a young girl. And that’s not just for today’s busy women. It has always been the case.
With everything still left to do, there sits little Mary, being quite contrary, crashing a party meant only for men...more

Any woman who has ever been overwhelmed by the responsibilities in her life needs to read this book. It's a Jesus book, let me just get that out there right now. But it's a Jesus book that's full of insight into why we need to stop doing doing doing (as Martha did) and start stopping and listening as Mary did.
Oh, and the "Martha World" doesn't refer to Martha Stewart -- although the allusion works quite well. It refers to the New Testament story of Jesus going to visit Martha, Mary...more

I have the tendency to become over saturated in the "to do's" and often forget that what's most important is that which is right in front of me. This book helps those of us who are struggling as young moms with the guilt of balancing the daily to do's and spending quality time with both our families and God.
This is also a great description of this book:

Christians, SAHM, WAHM, working moms, anyone!
I really enjoyed reading "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" and personally found it to be a very humbling experience that for a few passages, there was a wealth of information to help me learn how to not only praise and worship our Heavenly Father but how to interact in a world where everything seems to demand busy busy busy.
Non-condescending, a good read, I found myself pacing myself and going over paragraphs just absorbing the lessons that were found.

Not really something I would choose to read. Vassi asked whether anyone had read it, so I got it from the library to review for her. I had to return it to the library before I finished the last chapter and a half, as someone else had requested it.

My sisterrecommends it for: Every woman who wants to know about Jesus
I first thought " how could there be a whole book on this topic??", but the author provides so much more...like how important it is to have a daily relationship with the Lord. I love how she talks about not giving God what you want you think He wants you to give, but rather being like Mary, She came to Jesus with everything she had(a vessel of fragrance) and poured it on His feet. She didn't just use enough to clean Him, or enough to get the job done, but she broke open the container to...more

This was a very helpful book to me. I borrowed a friend's book, but now I've ordered one to keep and another to give my sister. It will be a reference book to help me keep from over-committing and forgetting what the real objective is. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in deepening their relationship with Jesus finding it difficult to take the time to make it happen.

This book found me at just the right time. It talks about how Jesus goes to Martha's house and how Martha is busy in the kitchen while her sister Mary is sitting at Jesus feet. Martha complains about this to Jesus but Jesus tells her that Mary has chosen the 'better part'. It is a needed reminder for me to stop 'working in the kitchen' and spend more time in the 'living room' - doing things that are the most important - spending time with God, with family, with friends.

anyone longing to deepen their relationship with Christ
This is a really insightful book on the simplicity of developing your relationship with Jesus in the complexity of our world.
I really enjoyed how the author seemed really down to earth; like someone I could sit and talk with- not necessarily a "Spiritual giant" who had it all together, but another Believer on her journey to becoming more Christlike.
This book had a lot of gems in it; things that I am copying down to meditate on before I return it to the library. Highly recommen
