Rain arrives at the security office too late. He realizes he just missed Machika when Ys enters. As he chokes the boy, Eury enters and says Machika needs his help. They run to a window and find her hanging from a flagpole. A passing blimp gives them an idea. They pull it into the building and Machika lands on the top of the blimp.

Kaori Ozaki, Immortal Rain, vol. 6 (Tokyopop, 2005)

After the cliffhanger ending of volume 5, I couldn't wait to rip into this one and find out what happened. Of course, it's pretty much the same thing that happens any time a character falls out a window in a cliffhanger, but Ozaki throws in a nice twist on it. The end result is that after getting so close to being reunited, Rain and Machika are pulled apart yet again, except now Rain is free, so they're capable of looking for one another. Meanwh

Machika has found Rain at last! But alas, they are not yet reunited.
Accompanied by Eury Evans (who has now left Calvaria and been marked traitor), Rain escapes from Yuca's grips and chases after his lost girl, Machika.
Machika, also accompanied by old friends from a previous adventure is on the hunt for Rain. She must find him, her heart yearns for him. If he were not alive, she could not live either... or so she believes.
When will these almost-lovers ever be reunited?

Unfortunately, goodreads doesn't have V.1, so we'll stick to this one. =) Anyways, this is a superb not-quite-shoujo, definitely-not-shonen manga that has many of the elements of many series but none of the feeling. I have to say, oh wow because I just love Rain and Machika and their relationship and call it weird, call it dirty, call it odd that a fifteen year old girl and a six hundred year old man could fall in love, but it works. XD

She holds complicated feelings towards drawing manga: The planning and writing process are very arduous for her, yet she cannot live without drawing. So, she drew the first 9 volumes of Immortal Rain and its prequel Shinigami of the East almost completely by herself when she couldn't find an assistant.
