THE SURVIVORS CLUB – VG
Gardner, Lisa – 5th book, Stand Alone

A sensitive but tough Rhode Island state police detective just returned from a bereavement leave (his beloved wife has died of cancer), Griffin encounters a hell of a case: a serial rapist, Eddie Como, is professionally hit in the courthouse parking lot, but whoever set up the kill doesn't want any loose ends: a car bomb results in an extra-crispy assassin. The prime suspects for this crime are Eddie's surviving victim More...

The Survivors Club members are three women. All very different, but with one thing in common: all were assaulted by the same man, Eddie Como, a.k.a. The College Hill Serial Killer. Meg, a young college co-ed and Eddie's first victim, has suffered complete loss of memory from the trauma. Carol, a high-society East side wife, has pretty much lost her mind and possibly her husband. Jillian, a successful businesswoman, actually interrupted as Eddie Como killed her younger sister. Together, they've j More...

"The Survivors Club" consists of Jillian Hayes, Meg Pesaturo, Carol Rosen--a "business woman, a college coed and an upper-crust wife." They all survived the College Hill rapist and banned together to put pressure on the police that led to the arrest of Eddie Como. On the day his trial was to begin, a sniper guns him down in front of the courthouse. What happens right afterwards to the assassin in the first pages is the first twist of the book, and hooked me in. The primary in More...

5- Stars for the reading. I listened to this on audio with Anna Fields as the narrator, whose voice I adore and who can perform the hell out of a story. She was, as usual, superb. Gruff Fitch was as different from Dreamy Meg who was as different from no-nonsense Jillian etc. So much so that I always knew 'who' was speaking.

4- Stars for the suspense and characters. Loved Griffin the state cop with anger issues (with good reason) especially. And I liked how incredibly twisted the More...

This was a book I could not put down.
Three victims of the same serial rapist form the survivors club.
They actively seek prosecution
of a particular man. Access to their addresses, particulars of the crimes including DNA evidence
point to this man. A year later, on his way to the first court appearance, the suspect is killed by a sniper.
The sniper is then blown up.
There is now real question as to whether the apprehended man is the college hill rapist.

This is not my usual type of book and I would not have usually chosen it except it was one of the July ’03 selections at the Book Nook and I decided to join in with the group. The book is intriguing and interesting. The story keeps moving and it kept me guessing until “things” were revealed. The Survivor’s Club is a group of three women who were all brutally attacked by the same man who, within the first few pages, is murdered. The women quickly become the main suspects and the story moves f More...

Very good fictional crime book. It was a little confusing to put all the plot lines together. Lots of twists and turns

Lisa Gardner has moved to the top of my favorite authors list. Her ability to blend multiple stories within the main story is fantastic. In the Survivors Club, she writes from each of the survivor's club women's point of view, and the leading male detective's point of view. She does it very well - think of multiple people scattered around a small pond; each throws a stone in the water and each set of ripples lives by itself until they all come together in the center of the pond. Again, as with t More...

It's about a group of three women who survive rape and their attacker is going on trial when he's shot in the head and killed. It's filled with twists and turns and you can really understand what survivors and their families go through as well. It's hard to read at times but well-worth reading, which makes it an excellent portrayal of a difficult subject matter. The pages just fly right by!

It can be fairly graphic in terms of language and subject matter but if you can handle it, it's worth read More...

Listened to this first as an abridged audio and was mightily impressed by the way the author "got" the RI settings and feel. The story was exciting- so much so that I sat in my driveway after coming home from work twice to keep listening. Many elements of the story seemed to be based at least in part on actual cases that had once featured prominently in local news. Re-read for a f2f discussion in 2009 but it didn't have quite the impact. I think it was more compelling listening to More...

They survived what no woman should ever have to endure. Now these three women have the means, the opportunity, and the perfect motive. Are they trying to get away with murder-or is someone trying to make sure that this time they don't get away at all.

The Survivors Club...that's what Jillian Hayes, Carol Rosen, and Meg Pasaturo call it. They won't consider themselves victims. They are survivors. They faced the blazing headlines and helped lead the investigation that caught the man wh More...

This was my favorite Lisa Gardner suspense mystery to date. Loved the twists. Loved the problems of all the characters, and there were a few. The fact that three rape victims banned together for support only to realize a year later that the man they protested against, who ultimately was arrested and was murdered, might not be the right man. Add to that a detective barely holding it together psychologically, and you have a good story. Very suspenseful. Gardner defines mystery plotting, and I'll r More...

O clube das Sobreviventes é composto por Jillian, Meg e Carol, três mulheres que sobreviveram ao violador em série conhecido como o Violador de College Hill.. The Survivors Club is made up of Jillian Hayes, Carol Rosen, and Meg Pesaturo. Three women, all from different walks of life, who survived brutal attacks by a serial rapist. Ironically, they become the prime suspects when the accused man is murdered right before his court appearance and his assassin is blown up as he attempts to leave the scene.

These three characters are well drawn and extremely empathetic. However, Griffin and Fitz are at the top of "my favorite characters" More...

This book gets 6 stars instead of 5 forsure! I loved this book, 'completely'....I was so into this book. Chapter 15 I was scared out of my wits not knowing what was going to happen. I was hoping that no one would knock on my window while I was reading in the school parking lot in fears that I would freak out! I thought I knew who the bad guys was but it surprised me but in a good way that it wasn't who I thought it was. Lisa Gardner is the female for James Patterson, she completely rocks, I love More...

3 women who have survived being attacked by the "College Hill Rapist" form the survivors' club. Eddie Como has been arrested and is being tried for the charge but as he leaves the police van to enter the courthouse he is shot by a hired assassin who is then killed by a car bomb. The survivors club are the obvious first suspects of the police until another woman is attacked.

This is a cleverly written book with lots of twists and turns. The characters are well rounded and

This book was ridiculously long and had so many characters that I stopped caring who was who. When they'd mention a name that was previously mentioned, but had no significance, I pretty much ignored it instead of looking at prior pages to figure out who was who. Maybe I'm just a little slow, but it took me awhile to get who each survivor was and what their story was. I've read a few other Lisa Garndner books and I gave her one last chance with this one. I'm done with her. It finally picked up du More...

I really enjoyed this book as I enjoy all books I've read by this author so far. The plot moved quickly and I never quite knew what would happen next. A great book to listen to on a long car ride.

This was an engaging book that kept me guessing to the end. I think there must have been a book that came before it which I didn't read, but the author gave so much information I don't feel like I missed out on anything. However - if there was a book before it I don't think I'll read it si More...

Great thriller! I love Lisa Gardner! She can always spin an awesome crime story...one that includes many twists and turns and several different plot lines. I could never have guessed how this would come out - I was glued in the middle of the night, couldn't sleep a wink until I finished it.
As always, I will continue to watch for Lisa Gardner's books. I think I've read almost all of what she has written. Hope she keeps them coming!

The funny thing is I can't figure out exactly why I didnt love this book. It had all the lements right. Characters that interested me, plot twists that were surprising at times. Well paced. yet it didnt work well for me. Maybe it is because it seemed implausable to me. But that shouldnt be it - I enjoy that many times.

I will just chalk it up as - I can see why others really like it and I LIKED it but not as much as I thought I should have

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and felt the writing was fast-paced and engaging. Some of the initial scenes were too graphic, but we are talking about a serial rapist. I guess I've read worse. But it did take them far too long to figure out the key fact in the case. I had it figured out eons ago. This really isn't my normal genre, but I wouldn't mind reading more Lisa Gardner.

Ordinarily I am not interested in novels written to gain your sympathy (in this case three women who were raped) but Lisa Gardner found a way to have me engaged in this novel with characters that come alive and a twist to the story that I was not expecting! In non-predictable novel is a good one! But this novel has a dash of everything to keep the reader interested.

The plot is fascinating, the characters well defined, the Survivors Club very active. Three women anxiously wait for the trial of the man who raped two of them and killed the sister of the other. But things are not what they seem…
The suspense is intense and grows with the turning of each page. Great reading, a bit reminiscent of Scott Turrow’s Presumed Innocent.

I just love to listen to these books -- but the particular author for this one was not as fabulous as the ones in I Love You more. She spent too much time trying to differentiate between the characters using poor accents and a low voice -- very distracting. The story itself was enjoyable though.

Another good read from Lisa Gardner. This one follows the hit on a presumed rapist in Providence and suddenly things don’t add up and it becomes likely the presumed dead suspect was innocent. The rape victims and police search for the truth as another identical crime is committed. It all keeps you guessing with lots of action, suspense and yes, even some romance.
