Tardi has a knack for drawing specific periods and contexts. New York in the 80's looks particularly sinister and hopeless in the main story of this graphic novel. The simple, efficient plot brings out a striking image of a destroyed working class.
The main character was raised in the Bronx after WWII. He is now working as a pest killer in lower Manhattan. Equally rejected by the middle-classes who wallow in their new wealth and by the sordid ghettos which violence turns against anyone who, here
I received this album from my friend Wille and I can only say, 'Thank you!'. The story requires some time while reading,... I found myself flipping back a few pages and rereading more than a few times to catch some subtelties. Although the art isn't quite as crisp as I usually like it, the overall graphical feel of the album suits the story well.

Recommends it for: Appliance Salesmen
Hitchcock, Burgess, and Bradbury in a blender (A large blender, 'cos they were all tubby). Tardi outdoes himself yet again with the art-leave it to a frenchman to perfectly capture New York...In any event, he's neck-and-neck with Moebius as Europe's greatest comics artist. Stunning.

Jacques Tardi is a French comics artist, born 30 August 1946 in Valence, Drôme. He is often credited solely as Tardi.

After graduating from the École nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, he started writing comics in 1969, at the age of 23, in the comics magazine Pilote, initially illustrating short stories written by Jean Giraud and Serge
