Another fun story in the Warlord's series. This time the artist and Chuan are abducted by some angry traders while the warlord is "out of town." As they are being spirited away, the traders become lost in the desert after a sandstorm. All are convinced they are going to die, by Chuan remembers a little fish the artist made whose tail always points south when it floats in the water. Yes - you guessed it, the first magnetic compass!

Lovely illustrations.

What do fish have to do with math? Everything if the fish is a compass! My daughter was skeptical to read this book but in the end was as impressed with this book as she was with previous installations. The historical information at the end interest the children to no end.
