Nothing original in the plot. But that would have been O.K had there not been some Big shortcomings. Kenric seemed to me a kind of confused fellow who couldn't make up his mind. He fell for Tess the moment he set eyes on her. So why would he tell her she didn't matter to him ? Now, if we say, he was a hard man who didn't want to give her power over him than the contradicting question it begs is that, why did he than showed her how much he desired her and liked her the very next minute when he wo ...more

This was ok, not great. Those who love it really seem to love it, but for me it just missed the mark. I liked the beginning well enough, although there were scenes that I swear I've read before (Julie Garwood, maybe?), like when Tess was sick and thought Kenric was an angel and told him all about herself, etc. There were so many, many, many misunderstandings and unspoken assumptions I was exhausted of them after a while, and I think for much of the book Kenric was a jerk, never allowing Tess to ...more
I'd put "The Warlord" on my reserve list at the local UBS years ago based on how often it was raved about on the Amazon historical romance threads-it finally came in about 6 months ago and I randomly picked it out of my TBR pile yesterday-and I'm glad I did.

I've tried to give myself sufficient time to digest this novel and write an eloquent, accurate review about why I liked it but what the heck, my reviews never turn out that way so we're going to go with my usual:

Dislikes about "The Warlord"
Zaman zaman çeviriden kaynakla ...more

3.5 stars

Oh this hard copy is a well worn favorite. Kenric is everything I hoped for in a reluctant, cold, leading man who is a Warlord. He is just doing his alpha male thing to be loyal to his king and if that means having to marry a super, hot virgin and dub-con her into his bed - he's game. I can't even think of what not to like about him. Sex is hot, tension high and archetypes spot on. Quintessential historical romance that delivers your expectations for every cent you pay.

Kitap erkek karakter Kenric'in savaştan dönerken, kralın bahşettiği ödülünü almaya gitmesiyle başlıyor.

I have been going back through and posting reviews for some of my long time keeper shelf inhabitants. This is one of them. Aside from being a very skilled writer, Ms. Elliot created characters I absolutely loved. The hero in this book is very dark, tortured, and ultimately redeemed. The heroine is feminine and troubled, but she too finds redemption in the end. Great book.

I am DNFing this at the half-way mark. It reminds me way too much of Julie Garwood...similar language, scenarios, dialogue, characters. It's sort of like a watered-down Julie Garwood book. Odd.

This is one of my all time favorite romances. One of the best I ever read. A true comfort read I end up re-reading each year. A MUST for any romance fan.

I enjoyed(?) reading the book but I have to rate it 3 stars.

Negatives :

>Yeah I agree that even before I read the book I knew what I was getting. A ruggedly handsome, ruthless fighter with a bad past. This is the general layout of H for the medieval Romance but seriously! Try putting something into the character. Their wasn't a moment in the book where Kenric stood out or shined. He was all the TYPICAL !

>Tess of Remington! The real ISSUE for me! Was she simple minded? or what she was supe
This was okay, but not at all deserving of the high rating. I read reviews from GR as well as Amazon all pretty much praising the story so I decided to send for it since its not out in digital form yet. It was one of those stories where you keep reading to see what all the fuss is about but nothing really happens until about 2/3 of the way through. For the most part you have the hero and heroine misreading each others actions and never bothering to communicate anything. Our hero, Kenric, is a bi ...more
After reading this book for a second time - I have a different take on it. It was all about the romance. A lot of history could have been put in this book - but it wasn't - the story kept to the romance.
I still love the characters. The hero and heroine both went TSTL to strong and spunky in almost the same page.
The book is about marriage. Arranged or not, marriage is the same. It really helps if you are both fairly attractive – but marriage is a work in progress- forever.

Kenric gave me a whip lash .. his mood/personality swings were a headache .. Tess was unpredictable .. one moment she's shy and the next she's almost attacking Kenric but I kinda of liked that about her. I grimaced at some of the things that took place .. I know it's a historical but I just can't digest the He-man ordering his wife around thing and the whole I'm your "master/feudal lord" bow to me woman *gag* Thank God for the 21st Century.

Lady Tess, forced to wed kenric of Montague, in order to save her people, a man renowned for his ruthlessness. She is faces the inner conflict of the love of her people and loyalty to her husband, the enemy. One of my all time favorites.

I have it on good authority that this is the book everyone raved about as their favorite. It is a good story, well-written with wonderful atmosphere. The premise is one that is familiar to the medieval romance reader of the mid 80s to mid 90s. Heiress is pledged to dark knight about whom are sung ballads aplenty and none flattering and their conflicted marriage is the centerpiece of the romance. I adored this premise at the time--this book wields the conflict well but there is nothing about it t ...more
Love a strong female butting heads with a strong male. Although both at times felt wishy washy.
brilliant have read several times
I really liked this story. The heroine tried to be as honest with her emotions as she could (with herself and the hero)and didn't lash out with any childish stupidities that most heroines do when they feel they are backed into a corner. I understood her escape attempts and truly felt her pain of having to make that sacrifice for her people. One of the few books that I have read that I prefer the heroine to the hero...even though the hero did have his endearing moments.
the plot is just a traditional medieval romance story.. but elizabeth makes every character becomes alive.. i feel the agony, the love, the pain, the hatred, the distrust, n the sweetness,, i can see the hero n heroine as an usual human, who have a mundane worried, not only as a greatest knight or lady..

i really feel involved into their story.. my heart wincing in pain when they're in pain, but also grin from ear to ear when they reunited..

so i liked this one a's a nice change that the hero and the heroine don't hate each other from the start just to suddenly discover that they are so much in love.
in this book the love grows slowly but it is there from the beginning and i liked that a lot.although they have of course to face a lot of problems until they get their well deserved happy ending!
so now i will look the author up to see what other books she has written.
Hmmp...Kenric's a fool. Conflict could have been avoided a lot of times in this book if only the baron used his head more. He was judgemental, arrogant and prejudiced. My goodness, Tess had the patience of a saint! I wish she had brained Kenric with a mallet for acting like an *** most of the time.

“He'd been showing her what was beneath the surface for nearly a fortnight, Tess realized, struck by the sudden insight. He probably wasn't even aware that he'd shown her the man beneath the mantle of a fierce warlord. She liked what she saw, liked it so much that it terrified her. She had been so concerned with controlling her reactions to what she saw on the surface, that she didn't take time to guard against what went much deeper. Her eyes widened over the knowledge. Kenric didn't find her disgusting. He hadn't lost the least bit of interest. He was waiting for her to tell him that she felt the same.” 1 likes
