When I picked this up I expected it to contain more fantasy elements, but in this book of the series at least those take a major back seat to the girl's mundane domestic issues. Even when the fantasy elements do pop up in the story, they aren't presented in a very interesting way. I suppose this would be a good story for younger horse lovers (Ages 7-10), but I'm sorry if you have to read it to them. Also, I can't reveal the particular action I take issue with since it's at the end of the book,

I read this book back when I was about 13, and I loved it! I didn't use to read much, but I managed to read all 8 short books in the series. (Of course it took me 5 years to do, even though they are simple books, but hey, I still enjoyed them.) They are aimed at younger readers -- I'd say probably from 9-13 -- but they are still cool books with amazing unicorns, awesome plots, and nicely developed characters.

I loved to read these when I was young. It used to be the favorite book of my next door neighbor and I; we would even go so far as to play out the events of the books with our horse figures and Barbies. The books are definitely good reads for anyone who likes horses and who are younger than, say, 10 or so. (Of course, just because they're for younger kids doesn't mean I don't still like them. ^-^)

Got this at a book sale for a quarter. I would have loved this when I was 7 - unfortunately, as I read, I kept thinking I could have WRITTEN it when I was 7 (I did write stories along these lines). The main character is very frustrating. The books are so short, though, that I blew through it anyway and went on to read book 2. If I come across any more I'll probably read those as well.

I read this to my kids and dreaded every night. My kids didn't think it was bad – my 9 year-old decided to read the other two books on his own – but I found it lacking in actual plot. Most of it was banal descriptions of boring events about uninteresting characters interspersed with bizarre and frightening descriptions of the bad guy.

Wow, I can hardly remember these, but I know I read them when I was about nine years old. I remember their enchanting fantasy settings and how captivated I was by it. (Colorful stones? Rainbows? Unicorns? What more could a nine year old girl want?) Frankly, I'm not sure how much I would enjoy them now, but definitely recommended for younger girls.

A young princess and her unicorn are stranded from Balinor on "our" world, with no memory of who they are. They must discover who they are and avoid the evil Shifter, who seeks to conquer Balinor and the Celestial Valley, the home of powerful unicorns. I had read Stanton's Heavenly Horse of the Outermost West and Piper at the Gate, and was curious about her other books. I know as a little girl, who adored unicorns and horses, I would have devoured this series. As an adult...this was OK

This first book was pretty good. I felt a little far away as I was reading it, though. I don't know. It wasn't really meant for me, I guess. Of course, you don't need critical thinking to see that this is a horse lovers book, and I'm not a horse lover. It was a good read though; an enjoyable one.

This is one of those books I can pick up again and again, and have done just that. When I started reading them in late elementary they took me forever to finish. Now I can go through the entire series in no time flat. It is REALLY easy to read, but they're still interesting books to pick up.

Lovely children's fantasy, particularly for young girls who've always dreamed of having a unicorn or a horse for a pet. Arianna is a mature protagonist, which means none of those annoying moments in the beginning where the hero/heroine goes through a period of denial.

I am LOVING this series but i am warning all boys beware it is a total girl book with princess's unicorns and a princess and a unicorn bond so just a warning for all boys but i give it two thumbs up for all the girls!

I seem to recall reading this and not liking it at all compared to Stanton's book "The Heavenly Horse From the Outermost West". I'm willing to check it out again though.

As a kid, I liked it, but didn't love it. Reading it again as an adult, I feel pretty much the same way. Except this time, the MC kept annoying me. It's a fun fantasy for young unicorn/horse lovers, but I won't continue the series. I don't believe I did as a kid, either.

I started reading this series when I was in the fourth or fifth grade and I loved it. I also loved to stare at the cover art on all of the books.

I've read this before... but it's been a long time. I will find and read it again.
Later:
It's hard to find much to say about such a quick read- I went through three in an afternoon- but I was surprised at how good it was. The plot wasn't as simplistic as some children's books, and the writing was decent. Plus, you know, UNICORNS. Unicorns are awesomesauce. So yeah. Five stars. If I ever have kids, I'm going to give them this series. Especially if I have a daughter. Ari More...

Loved this series when I was younger! The world is well-created and the main character is believable.

This was my most favorite book series when I was little. I've read all eight books at least three times. I breathed this books. Every child should read these. They taught me so much about love, adventure, and growing up. And it had unicorns as well! What could be better? :D

I actually never got the chance to know about this series when I was a kid, so I read it as an adult. It was a fun read, despite the cheesiness of some parts (hey, it's meant for kids, so you have to have an open mind when you read it). The unicorns were the best part, and that is the whole reason I read the series anyway.

A good, fun unicorn series overall. I was bored one day, I think it was last year, and I decided to pick up the first book and read it again. Well, I read all the way up to the seventh book, but then I had to stop, as I did not have the eighth book to read.
