I'm not sure this is the correct author. That said, the book was written in the 1960's and highlighted the struggle for civil rights with a sub-story about a black man in love with a white woman. The couple know that what they are doing is wrong and that they are putting each other in danger. White supremists and black radicals make threats. Read in January, 1967
It's been so long ago, but the fact that I remember the title means it had a real impact on me. I remember it's a story of interracial love that grows through the ages, dealing with politics & family disapproval. I will never forget how sad I was when it ended.
