There is a reason why people leave behind books in hotels; they're generally rubbish. And I'm afraid this one takes bad writing to new level, nay, an art form.
You see, this is what happens when you're stranded on an island, say because of volcanic ash, and have to spend an extra 10 days bemoaning the fact that you didn't bring enough to read. Now I'm the first to admit that being forced to extend a holiday in the sun isn't exactly a tragedy, but having to sink to the depths of reading this most...more

When Liz gets a panicked message on her answering machine from her sister Pastor Rachel . Saying she,s in trouble they are watching. Than her sister disappears .Liz heads down to Key west. to try to find out what happened. Within hours of her arrival a prominent banker jumps to his death, than a teenage girl whom Rachel was counseling is found brutally murdered. The ritualistic style of the killing is hauntingly similar to that used by the notorious New Testament serial killer now on death row....more

Spindler captured the possibilities of satanism, cults and rituals alongside the traditional religion of Christianity beautiful and had me on my seat the entire read. The second of my Spindler reads I am entirely obsessed with her stories, the powerful way she has readers connecting with her characters and the fast pace throughout with just a dash of romance to broaden her readership and have you swooning for love.

Dead Run begins with Rachel, a woman priest who is trying to escape something that...more

This is the first Erica Spindler book that I've read and I must say I was totally mesmerized. I couldn't put this book down at all!! I'll be searching for this author's other novels.

When Rachel Ames - a pastor living in Key West, Florida - mysteriously disappears after leaving a desperate phone message on her sister's answering machine - Liz Ames travels to Key West to search for her. Within a few days of Liz's arrival, the area is rocked by the suicide of a successful businessman, another disappearance and the ritualistic murder of a teenage girl who Rachel was counselling. Frightened for her sister's safety and well-being, Liz teams up with a former Miami cop - Rick Wells...more

It was a good mystery, but it went and pissed me off that Spindler decided to go with the 'pop culture' version of Satanism instead of describing what Satanism really is all about. For starters, they don't actually worship Satan (yes, that is a bit confusing), but more or less their own 'inner god'. Also, they do not sacrifice animals or molest children (which she states in one spot) becasue, according to their beliefs, animals and children are the only 'true', pure things in the world, thus har...more

This was a very slow beginning, but by the time i got in the middle of it, things got highly heated. Imagine rachel pastor of Paradise Christian church missing, no one has heard from her and the Police has not found a missing body, only her sister LIz heard her msg on the machine the cry of help.
Suddenly she is compelled to find out the truth of what really happened to RAchel. She meets a former police officer Rick wells and together they try to find out what really happened and who or whom is be...more

I enjoyed this more than the Spindler I read right before it. It was okay and the heroine was believable. That doesn't mean I like her, but I believed she could exist. It was annoying having to read the same conversation a billion times. And I did not buy Val's character at all, or actually the whole Satan worship thing. Okay, I'm talking myself into 2 1/2 stars instead of 3. And I think Spindler needs to find a new editor. There were some very bizarre sentences in the book. And something about...more

Like all of Spindler's books I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Run. I thought the chemistry between the characters was great! Each character brought their own piece to solving the mystery, and I didn't solve it until about the last few chapters of the book, which only made the end more appealing. Spindler's novel keeps you guessing throughout and keeps you thoroughly entertained. She mixes the right amount of romance, the right amount of mystery, the right amount of suspense and even a dash of comedy to...more

I really enjoy reading Erica Spindler's books. They are usually a non stop read but this one caused some lack of interest half way through.

Liz Adams moves to Key West to try and find her missing sister, Rachel and opened up a door to killings, the occult, and conspiracy. Can she save her own life trying to find her sister. This book is worth reading to find out.

Main reason that I only gave it three stars was the writing was confusing at times which caused me to lose some interest but the endin...more

This is my first Erica Spindler read. Life has dealt Liz Ames several cruel blows in one year...the death of both her parents, a shattered marriage and an attempted suicide by one of her patients. But the most recent is the cruelest blow of all - after leaving a strange and panicked message on her answering machine, her sister has vanished without a trace from the Key West church where her sister is a pastor.

Liz packs up her life in Missouri and moves to Key West determined to find the truth beh...more

Erica Spindler really knows how to write mystery thrillers, and she's well known for the twists she throws into her books. Dead Run is no different, the ending is sure to catch you off guard, and I have to admit, I didn't have a clue the murderer was who it was. The story begins with Liz's sister Rachel, a pastor in Key West, going missing. With the police claiming that she must have just got up and left, Liz heads to Key West to try and find out what happened to Rachel. When people suddenly sta...more

I read this book but was unable to complete it. It was a totally disjointed story. The characters were not well developed and it felt as if she was trying to throw in some action that she was uncomfortable with. It got to be too much trouble to finish. I would not recommend it. It is, however, the only one of hers I had ever read, so I did read another one of her books. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy that one either. Sorry, but this is not an author I would persue adding to my collection.

Liz, in a pretty fragile state herself, travels to Key West in a quest to find out what happened to her sister Rachel, the local pastor, who has mysteriously vanished. Soon she realises that not all the locals are friendly, and that the facts aren't going to be easy to uncover. She hears rumours of a strange cult, and wonders if it was involved in her sister's disappearance. Dead Run is an entertaining mystery/thriller, not exceptional in any way, but an enjoyable enough read.

If I could give this 3.5 stars, then I would. It truly is a gripping plot, and a good quick read. Sadly, I found the brilliant plot to be quite poorly told. Often, the author repeated the same phrases such as "she brought the heel of her hand to her eyes" several times. The same facts were often repeated a few chapters later, and I found the grammar to be at fault several times. I know such trivial things probably shouldn't ruin a book, but for some reason I find them to do just that.

This was a decent read. The plot was good, and the pace was also. My only complaint is that the writer has no feel for how a man thinks. There were times when it seemed as though the conversations were between teenage girls instead of men. Some of the conversations and internal thoughts of the characters would never be thought by a man. This did detract a bit from allowing me to fully immerse myself in the story. Otherwise, not too bad.

Rachel the pastor held sermon at the Paradise Christian Church for the flock of Key West until her mysterious disappearance that leads Liz her sister to pack up her belonging and to come to Key West Island to investigate.

This is another great thriller from Erica Spindler. When Liz's sister Rachel leaves a chilling message on her answering machine, it was the last time she heard from her sister before she disappeared. Now Liz's compelled to go to Key West and check out the church she was a pastor at. From there, things go awry. Someone commits suicide. And a teen Rachel counseled is found there. It's up to Liz to find out, why isn't everyone helping her find her sister, except for Rick Wells, a journalist who inv...more

Not a great read but something about murder mysteries sucks me in. They provide a change of pace, a few cheap thrills and some thought as to who done it.

When Liz Ames finds out that her sister Rachel is missing, she leaves St.Louis to go to Key West to fid out what happened to her. The police don't expect foul play, and believe Liz is distraught over nothing, but when the young girl that Rachel was counciling turns up dead, a banker dives from his bedroom window, and ritual killings begin happening, Liz enlists the help of retired Miami cop, now bar-owner, Rick Wells, hoping he will believe her before its too late.

Not my favorite by her, but it was still good. A few twists and turns.

Another book given to me by my mom. What I liked was the setting. I don't think I've read one other book based in Key West. It gave the book a relaxed feel. The basis of the plot was also pretty interesting. That's why I gave it three stars, but overall I found it a little boring. I think a good story was taken and made way too complicated. Too many crimes, too many unneeded weird links between characters. I raised my eyebrows a lot during this book. I think I would give the author another try t...more
