Hernani
Romanticism was late in coming to France. Hernani (1830), by Victor Hugo (1802-85), created a major storm of protest but later won acceptance.

I really liked this one because somehow it was interesting. There was a great diversity of characters and every one of them was well developed for a play. The writing style though in verse fitted the play really well. Although a little bit predictible at times, there was some twists and turns to make the plot interesting. Plus, the predictability of this play doesn't prejudice the story it even helps focusing on the form of the play.

Must've come from Madame like all the other French books.
This one's in good shape. The lovely illustrations are reproductions of Michelena's works for the Librairie L. Conquet 1890 edition of Hernani.
