This book was TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Ok, now that I've gotten that out of my system, let's be a little more coherent, eh?

Black Wind would have been a decent book if it werent for the author himself. The writing style is slow and boring. There's plenty of action but it is constantly disrupted by technical descriptions of rockets, or submarines, or biological warfare, or whatnot. It made even the most action packed scenes boring as all hell.

Now onto the characters. By a More...

A co-worker recommended Clive Cussler to me and loaned me a couple of his novels to check out. This was the first of the two that I read.

The concept is that the Japanese were beginning to use biological and chemical munitions in a last-ditch effort to win World War II. Although I do enjoy history, I am not aware if this is factual or simply a concept for the story. Anyway, some terrorists decide to retrieve some of the munitions to use in modern times and a United States federal org More...

I enjoyed it. As our main hero Dirk Pitt Sr, gets older I am sad to see him and Al have less of a role in the adventures. Dirk Jr is being written, IMO, as a Pitt replacement. Sometimes when I was reading I would forget that it was Dirk Jr and think that it was just Dirk Pitt. Don't get me wrong, Dirk and Al are still involved and play the major roles, but a lot of time is spent with the kids, more with Dirk Jr, than Summer. I am wondering, if as the next few books progress, Dirk and Al will pl More...

really awesome book and audio tape, of which i have both. i think it's a little bit more informative than his others, in the way of explaining historical events etc. he does this in all his other books but this one just seems more interesting, especially for those who enjoy warfare adventure. based on events during World War Two, it emphasizes the chemical warfare that could have potentially happened during the war & who the brains were behind the "technology". those of whom have read More...

ICK... HIS GRAMMAR WAS SLAP-HAZZARD, DIALOGUE STILTED,AND I FOUND IT INSULTING TO WOMEN ETC. I HAVEN'T SEEN THE WORD GUSHED THIS SIDE OF A VICTORIAN NOVEL IN MANY YEARS. ALL OF HIS FEMALE CHARACTERS REPEATEDLY GUSHED ABOUT SOMETHING. HE SHOULD HAVE HAD THEM SIMPERING TOO. TO HAVE A NAVY SEAL KNEELING IS ONE THING, BUT TO SAY "HE KNEELED..." CHAPTER 65 P. 515 I WANTED TO TAKE OUT A RED PEN AND MAKE CORRECTIONS. THE PROPER WORD USED TO BE KNELT.... MAYBE I'M OLD FASHIONED BUT I More...

i have read a lot of cussler...clive, that is, and this was written by his son. ironically, Clive's longtime protaganist, dirk pitt, is replaced as the crack slapping, by his OWN son, Dirk, JR. This was a bit more gruesome than clive's stories, but i see a lot of his son trying to think "what would dad write here?" there is the requisite visit by clive cussler, and the reference to a great car, and very good interaction with former cussler heros. That is what kept this as a 3 star. More...

I am a huge Cussler fan and have been reading his books for over 30 years. Every book has been just as exciting to read as the last....until this one. I know this is the first one penned by his son, and I will say that the story outline was well thought out and interesting, but the actual written story was just hard to get through. It seemed as though it was about 100 pages too long, and those extra hundred pages were just extra words added to make the book longer. It was torturous to read five More...

This is something like the seventh Clive Cussler book I have read and it was pretty much the same as all the others. I enjoy the simple fun of these books. This time, I felt that the number of times death is escaped and the sheer number of witty remarks immediately following one of these near death experiences was a bit much. Knowing that the good guys always win and the bad guys are classic bad guys doesn't do anything to hurt the brain candy. It would be cool if Cussler mixed it up a bit w More...

I’m not exactly sure why, but this was my favorite Dirk Pitt novel, probably because the main character was actually his son, Dirk Jr. Dirk isn’t as cocky as his father and just seemed to get on my nerves less. Plus this was the most recent of Cussler’s books that I have read, and actually took place in the year 2007, which made it easier to relate to, since it isn’t 30 years old. The premise was that this evil Korean guy wanted to unite North and South Korea again (and implement his communis More...

I hate how this book ends. The main character, instead of letting the bad guy be prosecuted, murders the bad guy. But, there are some really high suspense action/thriller sequences and the political background to the plot is interesting. The other thing I hate is the lame attempt at a romance with Dirk and some random lady he meets but never spends much time with. Dirk is worried, not only that LA will be destroyed, but also that Sarah, who is went on one date with, may be harmed.

Black Wind follows the story of Dirk Pitt and the NUMA agency. A world war 2 submarine was destroyed off the American coast and it was carrying a deadly cargo - Black Wind. It is up to NUMA to find out what black wind is and how to find it ... before someone else does.

This tale leads Dirk all over the world with his sister Summer. They dive here and there and let the reader know of all the historical backrgound about other true stories that coincide with this one.

I've been reading Cussler for years and he never fails to involve me in his adventure thrillers. I started out with Dirk Sr and his partner Giordino and now we have Dirk Jr. and his twin sister, Summer pursuing the evil man who is threatening the world with a mutant virus. The usual NUMA characters are there to help with their advanced technology and machines. All very imaginative and of course Dirk has a girl waiting in the wings to enjoy his charm.

Have read the previous Pitt tales and enjoyed the adventures, but this one was just much more of the same. As another reader commented, if I read that someone else (both women and men did) "gushed" one more time... And the heroics are fun, but really do border on the superhero. Pitt Sr.'s daughter's name is "Summer Pitt" - why not Peach? It is definitely escapist. I've two more that I've already purchased, but after that I think I'll move on.

An OK Dirk Pitt novel, but the dialogue contained too many lame puns and jokes. The weakness was in the dialogue, and the predictable ending regarding who captures Kang. Summer Pitt was an unnecessary addition, since all the action was given to Dirk Jr. and Summer was reduced to a weak female co-lead. Overall, it was a decent read but having a book with Dirk & Dirk Jr. felt confusing at times, when I tried to figure out which Dirk was referred too.

This was my first read of a Clive Cussler story and it was really entertaining! Nothing too in-depth or emotional, just a good on the surface adventure story, fast paced and action packed. Its like a cross between James Bond and Indiana Jones, what fascinates me about these stories is that Cussler always incorporates some sort of historical value into the plotline.

Black Wind by Clive Cussler

I'm a massive fan of Clive Cussler and all his works, especially Dirk Pitt, Kurt Austin and the new Isaac Bell stories. As expected, Black Wind is a great addition to the collection. It's classic Cussler, spans over years and is full of tension, action and adventure.

Clive Cussler books are nothing if not predictable, but it's enjoyably predictable not boring. Ridiculous, madcap plot full of inexplicable events and lucky coincidences, all topped off by the most Mary Sue action hero protagonist I've ever encountered. Cussler is the Alexandre Dumas of scuba.

I found this book to be thoroughly entertaining; as always, there's over-the-top action with the standard guy-trying-to bring-death-and-destruction-to-achieve-global-domination and the endlesly lucky Pitt family trying to stop him. Dirk Pitt stories are always over the top, and I wouldn't have them any other way :)

Have read positive reviews of Clive Cussler so I thought I'd try one. This book was trashy, mildly amusing. Typical high-tech adventure with cardboard characters, improbably escapes, lots of explosions - I could see the movie it was written to be as I read it.

This was a good summer adventure book. It was historically interesting, and the overall plot was good enough to keep me reading. I like how the author is getting his son involved and the main Dirk Pitt character's own kids are now playing a role in the adventures.

It took me forever to read this one... it was a phase in life when I couldn't devote much time to secular reading so my recollection of this one is very sparce.. it was OK. I really like the dives and adventure and conspiracy.

Clive did it again. This book kepyt me on the edge the entire time; right when you got a little settled in, a twist would come out of nowhere. He then manages to pull the entire book together at the end with a great ending.

I gave up. I read cussler years ago and have a handful of unread cussler books on my shelf. Now i remembered why I stopped reading him; I felt spoon fed the same story with the same characters.

I usually love Cussler's books but I had a really hard time getting into this one. It seemed hampered by too much technical detail. There were still some good suspense scenes though.

Typical Dirk Pitt thing. Lots of escapes from impossible situations, a few bad technical glitches, but overall a good read for a rainy day at the beach. Don't skip something fun to read it!

A pretty good thriller, but this book could really use a good editor to get rid of redundancy, incorrect phrasing and just plain dumb statements.
