A good read infact. I started reading Wilbur Smith on suggestion by a friend. But I found myself liking it a lot once I started with it. The plot and the characterization are interesting. Any Nature-Lover would appreciate Wilbur Smith. And specially the character Sean Courtney. If you like the woods, safaris and stuff like that, then this is definitely the book for you.

This is the second time I have read this book. I was happy to find it in the lending library at Bayu Cottages in Bali. A very good read, and it also was fairly accurate with a lot of African history. While just now treking thru the forests in Bali I kept myself going by pretending I was Claudia.

Another book by Wilbur Smith that is hard to put down. Smith produces tomes that are exciting and descriptive. He manages to create characters that feel like living people. A recommended read.

Wasn't bad, just left it around the middle 'cause I had to give the copy back, and never got around finishing it.

This seemed a bit different to a lot of the other WS books I've read - yet it's set in Africa and involves a Courtenay, but the relentless violence, bloodlust and cruelty was pretty wearying, not to mention the sexism and attitudes to hunting which were probably considered acceptable in 1989 but now felt very distasteful."

An interesting portrait of Africa in the 1980s (I wonder how much has changed since) and the iconic South African (white) male. Having read reviews recently discussing how aid to Africa is detrimental to the countries it is targeted to help, it would be interesting to know how much of the perspective given in this book were around at the time.

More classic Wilbur Smith, I really do love his books, really good read.

Hard to put down again! The first half to be honest was a straightforward hunting safari (not everyone's cup of tea) before it got down to another firefight this time with Mozambiwue guerrillas. Always fascinating to see Africa in the raw.

You either love Smith or you don't even attempt to read him. It helps if you have lived in Africa. I love him, and can't believe he is still able to write with such fluidity at the age of 80+.

Following the Courtneys down to Sean's grandson. Was a little hard to believe the sudden change in Grandson Seans' personality. However, couldn't put the book down.
