I read Danielle Steel when I just want an easy, quick read. Her subject matter usually holds my interest, but the overall plot and writing is conducive to a beach or airplane read--helping to pass the time, but not deeply intellectual. I read this book just prior to going on my own cruise. I did not examine the book closely enough before I started reading. The thoughts of a shipwreck, albeit a fictionalized account of a historical disaster many years previously, did not set with me when I embark...more

Because I’m a sucker for all things Titanic, I grabbed this book from the library booksale shelf several years ago. This is the first Danielle Steel novel I’ve read. I liked it a lot because of the subject material, because it falls into my favorite genre (historical fiction), but mostly because it was a really good story. Edwina’s unselfish care of her siblings after the deaths of her parents and fiancé is heartbreakingly beautiful. She never thinks of all that she is missing in life except in...more
A minha opinião:
Ne...more

Romance LOvers, History buffs who like a light read
Oddly enough, I actually felt like reading Danielle Steel last night! Although I own at least ten of her books, she is not an author I read often, and in this case, actually reread. I enjoy her books, but it's a kind of guilty pleasure, like watching days of our lives or something. But still, I read it in one sitting, so it's all good.

Okay no one can say that this is not a good book! All her books are really good but they are just too dramatic and melancholic for me:(
I have to give her a high rating though!
I just prefer a book that would put me in a good mood at least by its end! I don't mind shedding some tears in books but in hers it is sobs!! Lol her books though masterfully written always leave me in a weepy mood :( I know that this means she's a great author and she really is ,to the extent that you feel you're living i...more

I have always been facinated with the story of the Titanic, but I got to see a different side of it throught the eyes of Danielle Steel. I had not read any of her books before, until i came across this one a few years ago. The story is riveting, moving, and touching. Even though it's a fictional familt, she made it real to me, I could actually visualize myself back on that ship, her discriptions and stories of its passengers were so real...I know the Titanic was only in the story in the beginnin...more

A story about the 'perfect' family and what happens to them after the sinking of the Titanic. Rather predictable and very simplistically written, which makes for a very fast and easy read. You feel bad for the family and all that the children endure during the sinking. But as their lives move on the story just gets a little grating on how the eldest daughter struggles to keep the family together. It is a nice story of overcoming fears and prejudices.
Well this was an average read, Better than many Danielle Steel's novel. Atleast it wasnt about a wife leaving husband for someone else and the Husband then has to look after his family.
It was about a family. A girl who had to look after her siblings after the death of their parents on the Titanic. Their survival after the incident of Titanic. Taking care of the children, growing them up. and Moving on.
Nothing Extraordinary. But finished it off in three days.

NO Greater love is a love book that could be recomended to women by the age of twenty and above. It talks about relationships and getting to meet your soul mate and having the best relationship. It also talks about how to get closure by getting over them. It is a nice story because this women talks about a greate relationship with her boyfriend and her boyfriend died.
Admittedly, it's been a long while since I read this. I gobbled it up after Titanic first came out years and years ago. It was difficult to get through, even though I was HUGE into Titanic at the time, and I remember being offput by the ending. I suppose an actual review would consist of me rereading the book, but I'm not that invested.
I think the main draw for this story is the Titanic element which actually only features in the beginning of this rather sad tale. A family torn apart by the tragedy and how they pick up the pieces. An easy read which I found fairly enjoyable. I was a teenager when I read it and was still caught up in the excitement of the movie.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was expecting it to be some kind of cheesy romance novel but I found myself deeply interested in the main character of this book and her journey as a titanic survivor. I found it nice to go beyond the horrid sinking to see how those who survived lived on after the tragedy.
I have always had an interest in the tragedy of the Titanic which is what drew me to this book. I used to read a lot of Danielle Steel but I think I know why I haven't read one in years...I had to push myself to get through this one. I enjoyed the first 1/4 of the book, but there was little action after that. It's chapter after chapter of emotional baggage and struggle. I wanted to know what happened to the characters, but was glad when the story ended.
This book made me cry really hard. I read it two years ago but I still feel sad whenever I remember the story. I cried then stop after a few minutes, then after turning a few pages I would start crying again. I really felt sorry about the girl, Edwina. She experienced too much tragedy. If I was her, I don't know if I can survive. The story was just too touching that for weeks after reading this I can't get the story out of my mind. If Nicholas Sparks and James Patterson made me cry, Danielle Ste...more
I really enjoyed about 2/3 of this book. It's about a family who was on the Titanic. The parents die, leaving the oldest to take care of the 5 younger siblings. The end really bothered me though. Blah. A little sleeping around always gets to me. The writing style was okay. There were parts that I really didn't like the way they were written, but overall, it wasn't too bad.
I don't know what it is about this book but I love it. The writing is crap, the plot is predictable if you are over the age of 12 (which i barely was the first time i read it so i have an excuse for buying into it the first few times...), the ending is cheesy beyond belief - yet somehow i have managed to read it more than 20 times over the past ten years or so.

I'm very surprised that I didn't like this book so much, I normally can't get enough of Danielle Steel but reading a book about the Titanic just wasn't for me. I've read a book in a couple days and this one was hard for me to read because even though it was an easy read, it was very hard to get into.

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
