For me, that book was the worst Brockmann ever, Seal or non-Seal.
I would have given it 1.5 stars, as it was as usual nicely written; but I really feel its rating over over inflated.
At first, I just hated the hero, former alcoholic and recovering subscription drug-addict, compulsive liar and master manipulator/actor; to be short, one of the most abhorrent hero I've ever met; and even though some explanations further on made me understand him and better accept it, it definitely was way too late fo...more

I'd read reviews calling this Brockmann's best non-Troubleshooters book, but I think I liked Bodyguard more, frankly. Maybe it was the lack of military personnel. This is straight romance, not a suspense novel, which would have been fine, but I frankly didn't find the heroine that likable. Kate's too controlling and untrusting, to the point where, when she and Jericho had their big moment at the end of the novel, I almost didn't buy it, because his breakdown was so conveniently timed that I figu...more

This was a very unusual book, and I thought it was terrific. I can't say I totally enjoyed reading it - it was something of a downer, but with a HEA at least after a fair amount of suffering from several of the characters.

I did like the hero, Jed, very much, and had lots of sympathy for him. HIs choices in the book were not all good - for example the way he treated Susie and his kind of pathetic plan for revenge on Kate. But people do stupid things all the time and they don't always apologize o...more

A lot of people say this is a very different book for Brockmann, but only on the surface. Yeah, there are no cute FBI agents and hunky SEALs running around, but there are consistent themes.
The lead is an alcoholic (Robin in Troubleshooters, anyone?), who has had a troubled childhood and finds it impossible to express himself (hmmm Sam Starrett?).
Jericho Beaumont is sober and finding it almost impossible to find work as an actor after crashing and burning several years ago. Katie O'Laughlin has f...more

Somehow, reading the blurb I thought this was going to be a light book. It wasn't. For its setting, it was surprisingly emotional and raw. Just to mention-I'm huge fan of the Troubleshooter series, but this book just GOT to me. Mostly 'cause of Jericho.

Jericho Beaumont has hit rock bottom 5 years ago and he just can't seem to find his way back to the top. This movie is the opportunity of a lifetime and he would do anything to play in this movie. Even surrender his privacy and pride by...more

VCR's, Payphones, and there was something else that was like "woah, 90s!"
I liked the story, though. Jericho was a nice character, although it was in Brockmann's earlier typical style of misunderstandings and lack of communication leading to hurt feelings!
Funny/tender scene with the LSD spiking, though.

This book was so different from her other books. There was no murder or mayhem in this one. Not a Navy SEAL in sight. I thought I wouldn’t like it, but I was wrong! I loved it! The main character was flawed but trying to redeem himself. The backdrop is a movie set, as the protagonists are an actor and a producer. The actor is a recovering addict who has to sign an outrageous contract to get the part. The story speaks to addiction and the daily struggle an Alcoholic has to face when they choose t...more

This is nothing like most of Brockmann's books, not being about SEAL's, but an actor. This book made me cry, which is saying something. LOVE it.

[audio] Addiction/alcoholism, abuse, racism, prison murder...sounds like the news. This is not Brockman's romantic suspense/ Navy SEALS and I didn't actually get a lot of zing out of it -- but I did like the view of living as an alchoholic (Jed Beaumont). Kate's story: note so much. The subplots -- a bit diverting. If this were my first Suzanne Brockman, I probably wouldn't look for more. Robert Lowenstein is a bit melodramatic, but not an intrusive narrator. Southern accent is a bit irregular a...more

This was surprisingly not a romantic suspence, which i expect all of Suzanne Brockmann's to be. But I know understand where Infamous came from.
This book takes place on a movie set and has a lot to do with personal development and understanding.
While the main characters are great, I personally loved Kate... no so much Jed, I loved the secondary characters, Susie and Jamaal.
Great, fun read that doesn't include any SEALs...

Oh, Lord. This book could have been good if two things occured.
1. The subplot between the two teenagers was cut out, because it was boring and took up space.
2. Kate, the supposed "heroine" who is more like a villian, was actually nice.

Okay, so I loved Jed. He is a man with real problems that he is, like I said, MAN enough to face. He has a good heart, but he is flawed, makes mistakes, learns from them, and is not too proud or arrogant to correct them. He's also far too forgiving and kind.

I am such a sucker for Hollywood romances! By the description, this was my ideal contemporary romance. A gorgeous, larger than life, tortured hero. I couldn't wait! Unfortunatey, then I met the heroine.

This is a relationship based on control, and I really, really detest relationships based on this unhealthy premise. Jericho Beaumont is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. His career has been ruined, and he is desperately trying to rebuild his life. To say I loved this character would be a hu...more

The reason I picked up the book was that I have been going through a really tough time in my personal life in the past few days and needed something that was mindless. The first book that I've read that could by rights be considered "romance." I enjoyed this and especially liked the fact that it did not have a stereotypical bodiceripper cover which cut down on embarrassment when I was reading it. The story is well-plotted and the author really concentrates on character development. The ending se...more

This is a very angry story. It's supposed to be a romance and I'm sure it will eventually get there at some point! It's hard reading as the hero (Jed) is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic and no one in the film industry wants to give him another chance, so he's angry and disgruntled. The heroine (Kate) is a flat-out bitch and nasty to boot (though I guess they could be one and the same). If I didn't need this book to finish a challenge this month, I would have deep-sixed it. I'm sure it wil...more

Meh, this book was just okay for me. I don't get the fuss. A couple scenes I really enjoyed, like when Kate drank the LSD laced tea, and Jed took care of her. I also enjoyed how Kate helped him realize he had to confront and admit his feelings. The best parts were the insights into movie sets and daily life for actors. This does not bode well for the actual book plot. This book was not memorable to me.

This is the first Suzanne Brockmann book I have listened to. It was really enjoyable- in the vein of Nora Roberts. A good story of a recovering alcoholic fading movie star and how he gets his life back on track, along with a smoldering love story. Lots of angst and a few side stories keep this book very readable.

I will read more of her books now.

I listened to this on CD but I SO didn't like the heroine Kate that I stopped at the third disc. Perhaps I didn't give it a good go, but she was so ANNOYING I knew I would have trouble EVER forgiving her for her obtuse handling of this situation. Ignorant and painful.

No more of this authors stories - I just don't like her heroines!!

I listened to this on CD. I have been reading all the same genre-suspense thriller or vamp. So I thought a nice historical romance would be good to lighten my life. I picked this off the shelf and was hugely disappointed. I grew so bored that by the 4th disk (there are 10) I popped in the last one and didn't miss a thing.

Very good as usual. I missed the action and the suspense but the book was good. Very sweet and tender. I can relate with heroine doubts about loving an actor. Difficult to be sure when he's acting and when he's real himself. Expecially if he's a good actor and this one was really good!
Teresa
It bothered me how long it took for her to trust him, even after they were involved. Then she does this very quick turn around and suddenly trusts him completely and gets angry on his behalf that other people don't trust him. Other than that, though, it was pretty good. Certainly not Suzanne Brockmann's best, though.
Sheila
My favorite Brockmann book not to star Jules Cassidy. I am so impressed by the depth of emotion in this book, the way it looks at addiction and sexual assault and recovery head on, and how much I loved every main character.
Darci
Fluff to listen to while sewing, but not the good kind. I just really didn't like either of the main characters all that much. I thought they were both selfish assholes. I did like Suzy/Jamal though.
Wendy
This book was okay. I found it hard to believe the "feelings" seen in the characters eyes. They must be pyschic to know what the other person/character is thinking. So, the assumptions were hard to believe.

Despite the cheesy title, I loved this book. This is my first Suzanne Brockmann novel and I will be reading more, much more of her! Her characters were written with depth and flaws and I just devoured it.
AnneOK
Loved this book and the characters, too. Such a different book from SB's Troubleshooters. I liked the darkness of the story and how the characters overcame the adversities. Great romance, too!
Val
was not very impressed kept think I'd stop listening then something cool would happen then it would get boring this happened over and over surprised I made it through the whole thing

3.5 rating.

I felt the story was decent, but the writing and scenes could have been tighter... Also, the psychological denouement was just a little too pat for me
