Frisco's Kid (Tall, Dark & Dangerous #3)
When navy SEAL lieutenant Alan Francisco's leg is hit by a bullet, it seems his career is shot to pieces, as well. He has every intention of wallowing in self-pity, but there are two reasons he can't: his five-year-old niece, whose sudden presence adds the word "daddy" to his resume, and his attractive next-door neighbor, who is determined to help him heal his leg and his...more

Opening Line: "Frisco's knee was on fire"
Suzanne Brockmann’s Tall, Dark and dangerous series is in the process of being re-released as 2-for-1’s with fancy new (and quite sexy) covers. And I have to tell you I am now all about the SEALs and can’t put this series down. These well written quickie romances are each just different enough that they all feel fresh and unique while still connected as a whole, with delicious alpha male heroes and just the right amount of suspense action and melodrama to...more

An oldie but a goodie! Great story about a former SEAL dealing with a life changing knee injury, and a kind-hearted neighbor lady who helps him become whole again. Add in a cute 5 year old girl, a likable and smart mouthed teen, plus a bad guy and a few SEALs buddies and you have a great Brockmann romance story with lots of sizzle. It was a quick read (240 pages), but it packed a lot of heat and heart. I can see why Frisco is considered one of Brockmann's favorite heros.
I can't believe I actually cried reading this book. Brockmann writes flawed heroes so well, flawed and hurting in a very realistic, heart-tugging way.
Frisco's journey to acceptance of his career-changing injury and learning that sometimes the toughest thing one can do is to decide to live sucked me in from the beginning. He is drawn so realistically that I can actually feel his pain. He has a great heroine that is just the right touch of softness and sternness. Threw in a bad guy, some Navy Seal...more

I found this story interesting. What happens to a SEAL when he can't be a SEAL anymore? Frisco's struggle with this was touching. Tasha was adorable.
If I ever wanted to be a writer when I grow up, I'd look to Suzanne Brockmann for tips. I'd sit down and read her books, chart graphs of her story arcs and note how she keeps the reader involved. I'd want to copy her characterisations, where every single character, no matter how marginal is important. I'd need to try and get the rapport between men of a certain age (mid thirties), of a certain mindset (Navy, US Seals), with a major dollop of pop culture references both past and present that prev...more
Basically, the plot line is that Lt. Alan "Frisco" Francisco is still ignoring the realities of his knee injury five years later, determined to make his way back as an active member of SEAL Team 10. When he's finally dumped out of the V.A. hospital and discharged from the service, he doesn't take it well. Add to that the return of his flighty sister who dumps her precocious daughter, Natasha, on him before heading to rehab in an effort to avoid legal problems after hitting and seriously injuring...more
This is only the 3rd book in this series I read and I don't know what's going to come, but so far this is my favorite. I thought I really liked Blue, but Frisco was my kind of thing. And yes again, I definitely have a thing for grouchy guys with a package.
I read a couple of reviews before I started this book and even if I knew what it was about I had something else in my mind, which made me super excited to finally start reading. Well, I turned out different than I imagined, but different good....more

I first read the TDD series a couple of years ago, and now I'm working my way through the audiobooks. The books were fun - I love Brockmann's writing and story-telling, and generally have enjoyed all the books she's written. This one is no different, and I think it got a great treatment with narrator Lauren Fortgang.
In this story, former Navy SEAL Allen Francisco, AKA Frisco, is still trying to get his knee back in shape so he can be on active duty again - he can't accept that the accident 5 yea...more

Not realizing this was part of a series until Joe "Cat" Catalano (from Brockmann's Prince Joe) showed up, I read book three in the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series before book two. However, Brockmann wrote it so that it could stand on its own, so it wasn't a huge deal.
Frisco's Kid tells the story of Alan "Frisco" Francisco, former member of Navy SEAL Team Ten's Alpha Squad. As the novel starts, Alan, who was badly injured in an op five years before that has left him with a mangled knee, a cane, a...more

Suzanne Brockmann has written another winner here; who wouldn't fall in love with Frisco; she gives you the one-two punch with this description:
"It had nothing to do with his craggy-featured, handsome face and enticingly hard-muscled body. Well, yes, okay, so she wasn't being completely honest with herself. It had at least a little to do with that. It was true -- the fact that the man looked as if he should have his own three-month segment in a hunk-of-the-month calendar was not something she'd...more

This book was on my list to read for almost two years. I decided to give it a try after discovering temporary romance novels with soldiers/ex soldiers and so on. Then, I waited, without logical reason. Too long, obviously.
To be honest, I kind of regret, that I didn't decide to read it earlier, two years ago, to be precise. Cause now? It didn't work for me.
Alan, main hero, was quite interesting as a character, even if annoying in some parts. Mia was likeable, but rather as a friend of main chara...more

ฉากบู๊น้อยกว่าเรื่องอื่นแต่ให้อภัยได้เพราะพระเอกแม้จะ Tall, dark and dangerous แต่ก็ขาเป๋ป้อแป้เอาการน่าเป็นห่วง

Alan "Frisco" Francisco believes he is the man he is only because of his Navy SEAL career. When his knee is blown out by a gunshot, it seems that he will lose himself along with his career. He can't even take care of himself, let alone his 5 year old niece Natasha abandoned to his care by her drunk of a mother. And while his neighbor Mia seems intent on helping him every chance she gets, he can't believe that she would willing choose to associate with such a failure. When Mia and Tasha are taken...more
I enjoyed this short contemporary romance. I liked how the hero significantly evolved throughout the story. I liked how the romance developed. And the five year old nice was simply adorable!! I did feel there were holes in the story. What happened with the sister? Did the niece stay with him forever?
Narration: Lauren Fortgagng either has a very nasally voice or she was congested while she narrated this book. And that was kind of annoying. I also felt like she read too slow at times which made t...more

Usually pre-troubleshooters Brockmann books make me cring a little. But not this one! Maybe I need to seek out more Tall, Dark, and Dangerous. I think it must be enough on the cusp of the Trouleshooers era to erase its dime-store paperback romance awfulness. Wow, I sound mean. I really do love Suzanne Brockann. I love her books and I love what she stands for as a person. TroubleShooters is epically amazing and I was SO upset to read the last one, and then elated that I loved the first Fighting D...more
Book #3 - Frisco's Kid
I love the pink couch! I can just picture it!!!
Book number 3 tells the story of Frisco – our injured Seal. Fighting to gain back what he had lost – his life (or so he thinks). I think my heart broke a couple of times for him in this book. You can actually feel his frustration and torment. Mia (the leading lady) is strong and pretty much just as stubborn as he is. She will not allow him to willow in self-pity and can dish out some tough love when needed...I love that.

I personally love stories that revolve around tough men having to cope with disabilities that have taken them out of action and this one is no exception. The story telling of Alan Francisco's journey after getting wounded in the line of duty is so poignant that you can't help but feel for the guy. I didn't like Mia's character at first (mostly because of her judgemental attitude and her obnoxious naiveté) and it really took me almost the whole novel to warm up to her; despite all this, I still f...more
I loved this story. It is contemporary in that we operate in a world where so many of us are defined by what we do as a vocation. Frisco Francisco defined himself as a SEAL; it's who he is not just what he does. When he is sidelined by a life-threatening injury and, after five years, his doctor tells him it's time to go home, Frisco is unwilling to believe his life in active duty is over.

Recommends it for:
Fans of romance featuring military heroes
This is the third or fourth time I've read this one...and I enjoy it every time. But boy did the disabled SEAL Frisco have a huge chip on his sculpted shoulders. Never have I read a book where the hero's identity and feelings of self-worth were so closely tied to his career. Thank god he had the lovely high school teacher, Mia, to show him the way to happiness. Loved their steamy relationship. It was intensely hot without being graphic. I also loved Frisco's relationship with his adorable 5 year...more
First off, the cover. NO! UR DOIN' IT WRONG! The only thing appropriate about the cover is the medal bar things in the middle. Other than that, the cover is really off. The whole reason this book is so good is because Frisco is coming to terms with the fact that he is injured. At first, he was told he'd never walk again, by when this book takes place he has to rely heavily on a cane/crutches and is basically very heavily disabled because of it. There is no way he'd stand stock still with his arm...more
Ms Brockmann has done an excellent job of developing Frisco and Mia. You can feel Frisco's pain and frustration and the torment he puts himself through because he feels he has no future. Mia's a perfect match for him. She has a uncanny talent for reading him and seeing his remarkable spirit deep down. Their attraction to one another is potent. Add in the precocious Tasha who doesn't understand what a rule is, and this is a perfectly wonderful read!
I didn't realize this was part of a series but that's ok, I love series books. I really liked this book, it showed how Frisco had to deal with his injury. I bet it was hard writing Mia's point of view for Suzanne because Mia was so against the military and we know that Suzanne loves her military guys. I do too. It also didn't fix everything at the end. What will happen with Tasha and will Thomas go into the Navy and become a SEAL? I guess I have to read the rest of the series. :)

3.5 stars. This was a quick light read. I read it in one night. I did not read the two before it but was still able to just pick this one up and enjoy it. The storyline was very interesting. The main character -- Frisco -- has been permanently disabled and no longer can walk without a cane, much less run and still be an active duty Navy SEAL. Frisco goes through alot of self discovery issues and it is interesting to see him progress. The side story line involves Frisco's 5 year old niece -- his...more
terharu sama kisah hidupnya si Frisco.. hiks kerasa banget sedihnya saat dia dalam kondisi dimana seseorang ngerasa ga mampu ngelakuin apa2 dan meaningless... dengan kehadiran Tasha (ponakannya) dan Mia(tetangganya)he finally found happiness :)
i'am curious about Tasha and Thomas King, I hope suzanne brockmann make their own story :(

This is my favorite of the series so far. It takes the wounded hero theme, and gives it the treatment it deserves. The hero's pain, shame and feelings of worthlessness are so well described, but in a way that doesn't make him seem less attractive or less of a hero, no matter how he sees himself. The heroine is also great - it's nice to have a heroine who has real insights into people, and is just a genuinely nice person. The attraction between them sizzles, but in a beautifully accessible and "n...more
