His mission was to pretend that Zoe Lange, beautiful young scientist-- nearly half his age!-- was his new bride. Former Navy SEAL Jake Robinson was sure that his romantic years were behind him, but for God and for country, he would look into Zoe's beautiful dark eyes, kiss her senseless, hold her as if he would never let her go... and then, when the job was done, do just t

Opening Line: "Dr.Zoe Lange gazed out the window of the limo as the driver pulled up at the Pentagon."

What a great addition to the Tall Dark & Dangerous series this turned out to be. I would have to say that THE ADMIRAL'S BRIDE is one of the better (best?) from the series so far and the reason why all stems from its absolutely sigh-worthy hero (and some damn sexy shower scenes) With this 7th addition we get 53 year old Admiral Jake Robinson’s story and who knew I’d end up having a thing for...more

The Admiral's Bride (Tall, Dark, and Dangerous #7): Great 5 star read that was just hat I needed

So Idk why but I had the craving for a b ook tha had a May-December romance. I stumbled upon this book by Suzanne Brockman where the insanely attractive Admiral Jake is 24 years senior to the heroine. He is 54 and she is turning 30. Anywho, who cares because his body is hard as steel and he's in better shape them some 21 year olds. The heroine Zoe, however, can hold her own. Having her PhD and being t...more

This is my first read of a Suzanne Brockmann book and now I know what all the fuss was about! The Admiral's Bride is a reissue from her Silhouette Intimate Moments edition and it's a meaty one. I grabbed this because I was looking for some older heroes/younger heroines contemporaries and since I loved romantic suspense I thought this would be a good start. What an awesome story this turned out to be. I had planned to only read it in between my others but I ended up devouring it in one day!

Just reread this for about the 4th time. I like this book. And between readings I always forget how much. There is a large age difference between the characters which can be iffy but it works well here. I think since the heroine is a 30 years old professional woman and I don't feel like the hero is robbing the cradle. There is good sexual tension betwen the two main characters. You get to see plenty of most of the other members of the team but only a small bit from other POVs than the main coupl...more

TBR Challenge 2012: January category- Category/Series Romance. The Admiral's Bride has been on my to-read list since May 2010.

Maybe 3.5* Good solid story, with some twists and turns that take it above the "business as usual" for series romance. Brockmann does a great job with Jake's confused feelings. That was the best part of the book, in fact. Zoe is a likeable character as well, and although there is some lack of communication between them, it feels right for the story and the characters, so...more

I was entertained by this story (enough to finish the book), but there were a number of aspects concerning it that left me scratching my head in disbelief. The depiction of the military in this book is laughable at best (especially for those of us who have actually served in the military). The scenes where the Navy SEAL team are discussing Jake and Zoe's feelings for each other are laughably bad. I mean, seriosuly, to have one Navy SEAL telling another SEAL as they watch their team leader and th...more

When I 1st read that this book was about Jake Robinson I wasn't sure that I'm gonna like it, probably because I imagined Jake to be way older than he actually was. So I had my doubts.

BUT right after the 1st couple of pages I totally forgot that Jake was in his early 50s and Zoe made it completely easy to think that Jake was the most handsome man on the planet. I really liked that she acknowledged the other pretty boys, but directly decided that Jake was the guy. Okay, she maybe worshiped him a...more

Note to self: don't judge a book by its blurb.

I've been on an RS (rom suspense) binge the last few weeks. I've got a few Brockmann's in my Kindle and paperback TBR piles. Despite the great reviews this book got, I seriously questioned why this was in my archive.

Go ahead and judge me, but I find May-December romances somewhat icky. My prejudice comes from seeing 70+ widower grandpa manipulated into marrying his 20-something nurse. His assets ended up being bestowed on her own children (previous...more

As a love story this was nice, but I would have liked to see more proof that Jake Robinson was a former navy SEAL and a ballsy hero and a high-ranking military officer. He was obviously a good guy and all, and there was some talk of his heroics, but during this mission, he wasn't enough like a leader.

I found the scene where Jake and Zoe were talking about the adrenaline rush of going on missions a little forced. I needed more than words to believe that they had this in common. I guess what I'm t...more

This is the first book that I have read of this series, even though its number 7 LOL, well I don't always read books in the order of the series. Sometimes I just grab a book because it sounds like something I would enjoy reading. I just grabbed this book off of the library shelf, because I love reading from Suzanne Brockmann, and the Synopsis sounded intriguing to me.
You have a Navy Seal Admiral, who has been in the Navy for 30 years or so. In his 50's he is a strong, virile man who has lost his...more

5 stars.

I could not put this one down. I've been really craving an older man-younger woman romance and this one fit the bill nicely.

A very dangerous chemical called Triple X has been stolen. Zoe is brought in (along with other military people) to be a part of getting T-X back. Jake is the team leader.

Jake Robinson is in his early fifties, still in fantastic shape, and hasn't lost his edge. In his earlier days he has saved hundreds of men including Zoe's father during Nam. Zoe is in her late tw...more

I found myself pleasantly surprised by this book. I don't imagine that I expected to enjoy it as much as I did. Oftentimes, I read romance with the expectation of feeling like it was a 3 star book. Granted, half a star bump isn't that much but to me, it felt like that. This was due to the fact that I felt like I was reading something different - an age gap of 24 years romance. It worked for me! I thought that the author had handled the age difference rather well. At least, I thought it...more

I am partial to Navy SEAL stories, and I found this one especially delicious. The hero is an Admiral, in his 50's but in his prime, and after the death of his beloved wife, who meets the daughter of a man he rescued in Viet Nam. Their chemistry was believable, even though some of the reasons for their getting together for a mission we've heard before....but for the good of the world, they are a team in more ways than one. I thought the progression with the hero, from widower to passionate lover...more

First things first, where oh where can I find an Admiral Jake Robinson of my very own? Alas, the pages of this Brockmann are probably the only place someone like him truly exists. *sigh* But somehow, I'm okay with that. Partially because I can pick it up and reread any time I want. But mostly because his relationship with Zoe was one where I found myself actually grinning like a loon at some of their interactions and nearly (NOT quite, but as nearly as I can get whilst reading) swooning at other...more

I really liked this book. I found it second hand and thought it should be good because I like all of Brockmann's books. I loved that both the hero and heroine were smart and strong. The part that intrigued me was that the hero was more than twenty years older than the heroine. They find a strong attraction and can't help but fall for each other. The twists and turns are good and the story is something that as a mountain west resident I can relate to. Though finatics don't always live in the moun...more

I really enjoyed this book. Although written in 1999 it's topic is still current. A crazy extremist with his own cult following has stolen a biochemical agent and the Grey Group, made up of Navy SEALS, government agents and one biochemical engineer must infiltrate his compound to recover the powder before mass destruction occurs. It is catogorized as a romance because the Admiral leading the mission and the engineer are attracted to eachother but Brockmann has balanced the suspense and intrigue...more

Shelves: romance
The Admiral, a former Navy SEAL of course, and a beautiful weapons expert go undercover as a married couple at the compound of an extremist group that has stolen some especially deadly chemical weapons. Suspense ensues. There's an age discrepancy here--the hero saved the life of the heroine's father in Nam before she was even born -- and the hero is still recovering from his late wife's death, but let neither age nor grief provide impediment to hot militia-compound shower sex scenes. Enjoyable.

This is a really good story that I had actually read before (I just didn't recognize it from the blurb).

Admiral Jake Robinson has always been the SEAL who lived by the motto of "leave no man behind." As far back as the Vietnam War, there have been "Jake's Boys" -- soldiers rescued because of the personal efforts of Jake Robinson. Now, he's been assigned to infiltrate a religious cult and recover six canisters of a devastatingly lethal nerve gas.

His partner undercover is Dr. Zoe Lange, who just s...more

How much do I love this book.....let me count the ways!

This is my first non-Diana Palmer read with a much older hero/younger heroine (24 years). I have to say I loved it. It was very very believable in terms of the romance and the way our hero was concerned about not only the age difference but about his former wife (deceased) and his feelings about that relationship. Would it be cheating to fall in love again? Could he fall in love again? SHOULD he fall in love again?

Former SEAL and Navy Admira...more

Suzanne Brockman has a great series going. This book is about Jake, an Admiral, and Zoe, a scientist. They are put together to stop a nut job from blowing up a devise and wrecking havoc. Jake is older and some doubt if he can get the job done. He is also tragically widowed and has closed up that part of himself. Zoe is much younger, but very mature. I usually don't like the heroine to be so much younger than the hero, but Jake and Zoe really make it work and they are perfect for each other.

I think this is one of the better Tall, Dark & Dangerous books. There was a lot of substance, although the action/suspense aspect which is usually a big aspect of a Suzanne Brockmann book, pretty much took a back seat to the romance between Jake and Zoe. I loved their relationship. The age difference, and their feelings regarding it, were very believable. Jake was so cute... this big, tough, mature alpha guy having a hard time with his lustful thoughts regarding a woman young enough to be hi...more

I really liked this one. Though the age difference between Jake and Zoe is disturbing on the outside (24 years, yikes!) it was dealt with in a believeable way, I thought. Jake's problems/issues with being able to move on without Daisy were also portrayed very realistically and well. Loved the theme of infiltrating a compound of crazies--reminded me of my favorite 80s television show. :-) Can't wait to read more in the series!

Awww come on Suzanne, go ahead...try and write one of these that I don't like, huh! Love this story in particular. I'm a down and out sucker when it comes to the sexy lure of the older man, established, smart, brave and hurting from a previous lost love. Every woman should be able to experience "An Admiral" once in their life, especially one as human and enigmatic as this one.

Thanks

Maybe I was just not in the right mood for this one, but it did nothing for me. I certainly found Jake and Zoe likeable but I felt very impatient with their relationship and although it happens all the time in RS, I was sort of flabbergasted that with this terrible threat to the country that they had to stop, they spent pages and pages discussing their relationship.

Downloaded the eBook mostly because I was trying out my new eReader, but ended up reading the story. It's one of Brockmann's earlier books, so the dialogue and plot aren't as tightly written as in her newer suspense novels, but if you can get past the fact that the Admiral is obsessed with the age difference between the heroine and himself the story was enjoyable.

Book #7 - The Admiral's Bride

Age is just a number!

Hero – Admiral and War Hero

Heroine – Beautiful Weapons Expert

Undercover assignment – Pretend to be a married couple

HALLO!

The age difference was handled well by Ms Brockmann and the suspense was great!

Had me glued to my seat and I couldn’t finish it fast enough.
