Oh this one crept up and surprised me!

A nice straight forward story of deception ( Ryder has been falsely accused of a murder and to ensure his assets are not seized by crown married off to Jesse(his uncles step daughter) without him knowing. Fortunately for Ryder he receieves a pardon (given by legitimate means) and returns home to find his estate in wrack and ruin and wife he knows nothing about. Assuming that his wife is part of the deception he decides to seduce then dump her as damaged good...more

The story was good and some parts were dull. Romance was good. I liked sparks of chemistry between the two but it’s just that I felt emotional involvement had been too fast. Ryder claimed Jessie as his wife far too quickly. I saluted Ryder for his determination to change his addiction from opium to his wife. I liked Jessie because of her trust and faith.

The thing is the book has little plot and I was expecting more. Hence, the reason it lost one star. Overall, it’s a good book for those who seek...more

I ordered this as every time I searched for books by Lynne Connolly (an ERTG friend) this author came up as well. So thought I'd check her (him?) out. So far the hero is definitely an anti-hero and it will be interesting to see if he becomes in any way appealing. For the time being he is just crude and about as sympathetic as an addict missing his fix - which pretty much describes much of the scenes so far, except for those where he's had his fix. Big surprise so far is why the people in his hou...more

One of those books I picked up cheap for $2.99 but never finished. Honestly, can't remember why but it was obviously not a page turner for me. Stopped at Chapter 9.

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Good story line and interesting characters.

The basic story was good and the erotic hot. However, it was a miss with me because it was something was missing in terms of backstory or motive or something between the h and the H. Many people would really like this book.

This description is very good - pretty much tells you the entire story. This was quite an unusual one - you don't usually have an opium eater/drug addict as the hero of the story, but it worked here. Both are tortured souls seeking a happier life. This is by no means a cheerful book, but love triumphs at the end.
