How precious is a beautiful printed book! Patrice Newell's story warms the heart and the book is visually a pleasure to hold, feel and view. The paper, the photography, the font, the subtle background colours and graphics and the care taken over the botanic descriptions give the reader a reason to want to "own" the printed hardback book.
I love the way this woman so loves the land ... "the bush", that derisive term that denotes emptiness and pointlessness and the necessity to build a housing estate over it. Patrice has delved into the land and shared her developing knowledge of the everyday "unsexy" edible and inedible grasses and other plants that are native to the area. So much life going on in an everyday patch of dirt.
Enjoyed reading this book, its a true story of how Patrice and her family rejuvinate 10,000 acres in the northern hunter region using organic methods. Great book for anyone embarking on a similar journey, however bear in mind they have the $ to pay for staff and the expense of a lot of the inputs used.
Patrice Newell was born in Adelaide and now runs a farm near Gundy, New South Wales, which produces biodynamic beef, olive oil and garlic. She lives with her partner Phillip Adams and their daughter Aurora.More about Patrice Newell...
